ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC20 - Week 15

Welcome to Week 15 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!! Hello. It's Light/Bright BLUE month at the RSC.  Look at the beautiful photo I found on the internet to support the theme:

Details about that will be revealed shortly.

First, some RSC housekeeping...

Last Saturday, I mentioned my GOALS from the beginning of the year and shared that I wasn't getting the feeling that I had been doing them justice.  At the time I originally made the list, I didn't feel that they were all that challenging.  The goal of creating a quilt top in the Color of the Month wasn't TOO much of a stretch (until I found out about Project QUILTING and forgot ALL about that monthly quilt top!!)

Although...

When I reviewed the ongoing draft of my Year in Review post, I found that I actually HAVE completed a project in each Color of the Month, thus far.  Who knew?!?!  They may not have been a quilt top, but I have done more than I realized (or could recall.)

However...

It seems that I have (once again) replaced those UFO (that I really DO want to complete) with a shiny new (simplified) project.

Those goals from the beginning of the year have shrunk down to ONE BLOCK per month.  Seriously?!  Well, I guess if I look at it that way, I'm doing a pretty good job at working my revised plan!  :o))

SEW...

There you have it.  My lofty goals.  Distilled down to ONE TINY 6" block per month.  (That will definitely take the pressure off!)

For the month of April, I've already chosen the scraps that I want to include in my Scrap Buster Challenge block:

For now, I'll look forward to stitching them up next week.  I've got a few other things to do and share over the next seven days.

Let's see how things progressed...

SUNDAY - Bright and early this morning, I released a new Sew Some Love post.  Throughout the series of quilts shared, I continued to try to spot the blocks that I donated.  What I found was and amazing array of settings for the humble Split 9-Patch block:

In the midday, I released a new
(off-season) post of Project QUILTING.  I often say that desperate times call for desperate measures.  This Special Edition challenge series proves the point that Kim @ Persimon Dreams agrees with me.

MONDAY - I'm still reeling from Frederique's weekend post @ Quilting Patchwork Appique about the art of Ian Berry.  (Photo of one of his pieces was shown at the top of this post.)  He works in denim.  You know?  Jeans.  (Blue.  For the RSC.)

Mind. BLOWN!!!

At first, I thought his work was an art quilt.  Upon closer inspection, I noticed there was no stitching.  I simply HAD to find out how he works.  Further investigation revealed that he creates with scissors and glue.

You KNOW how much I love jeans, right?  (Well, maybe you don't, but I really do.)  I even have a piece of quilt art that I made for a challenge that I issued fellow retreat attendees (back in September of 2015.)  You can read about the process of making my entry in THIS POST.  The finished piece is named Jeans and a T-shirt:

It's a favorite of any of the art pieces I've created.  EVER!!
It was made for The Bluff Challenge issued 5 years ago.

In other news...

Check out today's Mail Call Monday post to see what I got in the mail from Sandy @ Sew High Quilts.  Here's a preview:

TUESDAY - I'm excited to share that just two weeks ago I posted a tutorial for Magic Stars and today's Tidy Up Tuesday post reveals the completed quilt.  It's been a LONG time since I've made a (more involved) baby quilt that fast!  Here's a preview of the finished quilt:

WEDNESDAY - I caved.  Some Light/Bright BLUE scraps...

... Were put to work...

... Making my first homemade face mask for DH:

I also made one for myself:

THURSDAY - I had ZoomBEE this morning and worked on a variety of projects during the afternoon.

After dinner, there was a scrapsplosion:

I sorted through a scrap bag given to me by my friend Cheryl K. and within its depths, these Light/ Bright BLUE bits were revealed:

FRIDAYToday's "activity" was my now-weekly ZoomKNIT meeting.  It was great to see everyone.  After the meeting, I gave this snippet of Light/Bright BLUE some attention:

During breaks, I focused on squaring up more bits of BLUE...

... Or shaving, depending on your point of view...

... Either way, I am pleased to have made some progress on my niece's wedding quilt:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at Angela's So Scrappy blog.  Go check out all the wonderful progress the other RSC Quilters have made in Light/Bright BLUE this week.  Race you there!  :o))

In celebration of April's Color of the month, the Gallery Wire is sporting this small woven quilt from my "Quilter's Play Group" days a number of years ago:

Until next time...
SCRAP safely!!!

  2. Your masks are beautifully crafted. I really like the shape of them. Hooray for digging into that bag of scraps and finding some blues in the deep depths of it. Scrapsplosions have been happening here too. Hmmm. ...just keep sewing, Joy!

  3. You've got lots of great light blues in this post, Joy! Your masks look good. There are so many different ways to make them! Is that photo at the top of your post actually made of jeans? Wow!

  4. Busy as always. Nothing can stop Joy, not even corona, lol. It's fun that you can "meet" your friends with Zoom. I am tempted more and more to jump on the Scrap buster wagon. There's some pretty quilt on FB.
I too was blown away by Ian Berry. Did you noticed in that quilt you posted, the intricate floor pattern is reflected on the picture's glass on the left? The amount of details is ... I don't know, I can't find a word for this beside superfragilistic.... I was just floored. Like SERIOUSLY floored. Wow.
    Enjoy! ;^)

  10. OMG Joy, I love your masks :-) They are a perfect fit. My pleated mask tries to get into my eyes. Squaring is UGH. Your niece is very lucky. When is the wedding? Wedding gifts can be sent up to one year after the wedding, I was told. So no rush.
This must be the only time when your nails are bare, Joy. Oh how we will remember these days.

  11. You've had a busy week even if you can't do your normal "rounds". Goals are allowed to morph during the year, as long as it works for you. Good luck with your new focus for 2020.
