Mail Call Monday - A Present and a Preeti Treat-y

Welcome to another edition of Mail Call Monday!!  This series of posts shares many items received in my mail box, as well as the special deliveries that arrive in person.

Like this one, which was delivered while I was on retreat last week...

Imagine my surprise when I found that Tiffany's Ice Cream Sundae Clip/Pin Cushion had been made for me:

Thanks, Tif!  It's SEW sweet!!

When I returned home...

After months of blooming, I was surprised to find that the bud on my rose bush when I left had opened AND survived my week away.  This lovely flower was awaiting my arrival:

I know that it didn't come in the mail, but it felt like a special delivery since November begins tomorrow!

Once inside...

I found this package on the counter waiting for me:

The contents was a copy of the holiday edition of Quilter's World Magazine...

My name was drawn in a giveaway for this issue...

This is my favorite project in the publication, Stars & Swirls, designed by Preeti:

Better still...

ScrapHappy Saturday - Retreat Week/RSC22 - Week 43

Welcome to Week 43 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was positively FILLED with quilting!!  What changed?  There were no art supplies to distract me.  :P

Here's how the week progressed...

SUNDAY - Prepping and packing for Quilt Retreat.  Part of the prep work was to finish my post for Friday's release of the October 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge Link Party.  All of that was completed AFTER taking in the Durham Orange Quilters Guild Show with Knittingsuek...

And working my shift in the Children's Donation Challenge display.  Each quilt will be given to patients at Duke and UNC Children's Hospitals:

MONDAY - She's off...  On a Quilt Retreat, that is!

Day One of Quilt Retreat and a UFO has been completed:

Skinny faux-piped binding was a bit of a challenge, but finished the quilt off nicely:

TUESDAY - Day Two of Quilt Retreat began by enjoying  a beautiful sunrise with my friend Tiffany...

 ... And a photo of another UFO finish:

Then I spent the day working on this stack of sewn HSTs for Needleb:

WEDNESDAY - Day Three of Quilt Retreat found me with a THIRD completed UFO...

... But it got off to a rocky start with a late-night off-campus excursion to the local ER:

Chest pains and upper back pains hinting at a potential heart attack, along with a severe GERD episode/gallbladder attack were more than I could bear.  They ran tests and gave me 5 medicines to curb the painful symptoms, then deemed me fit as a fiddle:

Since I was awake all night and we didn't get back until 6 AM, I decided to try to do a bit of work between breakfast and lunch, but an afternoon nap was a priority before setting out to square up these HSTs:

I missed zooming with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color, but she was busy with classes this week, anyway, so probably didn't miss me much.

THURSDAY - Day Four of Quilt Retreat found me up by first light...

With it, another glorious sunrise not far behind:

That was followed by a crisp, clear day...

... Which was spent attempting to replicate Orphan Blocks generously gifted to me by Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts for a quilt that has been on my To Make list for many years:

Oops!  I forgot to take a photo before beginning to sew.

Thank you, again, Preeti!  The yardage and (somewhat coordinating) scrap fabrics were selected a year or two ago.  They've been waiting all this time to make it to the top of the project list.

Once the blocks were sewn, I worked at the portable design wall to arrive at a potential layout:

Then I went back to squaring up 286 HSTs for Britt @britt_quilts for the Project Swap that we're doing:

Day Five of Quilt Retreat provided another glorious sunrise...

October 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the October 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.  I'll kick things off with what I made from the quilted scrap shown below:

Since basically ANY small quilted item qualifies for this challenge, I scrounge through my scrap basket to see what I can come up with.  

Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word is revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see August's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

October's theme was...

JOYFUL

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was Lime/Light GREEN checked my scrap basket to see what I might find to inspire me:

There was nothing begging to be dealt with.  Although, I did find this laying on the sewing table...

It's a small table topper, thanks to the pre-sewn strip sets from my friend Diane H.

I love nothing more than making something useful from another quilter's fabric scraps.  It makes me SEW happy!

November is right around the corner.  Angela hasn't chosen a Color of the Month, but Dark NEUTRAL is my suggestion for our challenge purposes.

November's theme is:

MINI

NOTE:  Make something that seems small to you.  It could be as simple as using a small scale print in your project.  Maybe a sweet new pin cushion?

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 42

Welcome to Week 42 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was a busy one with a little of this and a little of that.  There might have even been some quilting.

SUNDAY - Good morning, Knittingsuek!  I enjoyed spending some time chatting before heading off to the airport to pick up my offspring:

MONDAY - Work and Wordle???  Apparently, it missed its photo op.  Quordle is here to show you that I don't always win:

I stopped by tonight's Quilt Show turn-in meeting.  Britt had a gift for me.  Thanks, B!  I'll share the contents later in the week:

TUESDAY - Work...

Quordle was a mixed bag this morning.  Half easy and half hard, but I rose to the challenge:

Today was also the day that I faced The Beast (the affectionate name of my "space hog" of a longarm in my studio.)  I dug into Candy's scrap bag to help me in the process:

WEDNESDAY - Work and a 2nd Wordle win in three guesses:

For a minute there, I thought Quordle would defeat me again today:

After work I decided to play with the gift I received on Monday...

A set of Dylusions Ink Spray in one of my favorite color combinations:

There was a bit of a learning curve, but I tried them through the set of tag stencils from Knittingsuek...

... And they made a bit of a mess:

No worries, B!  They washed off within 24 hours.

It was a fun way to entertain myself while waiting to Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - Work and Wordle.  In THREE for the 3rd time this week:

Quordle was challenging, but I won (by the skin of my teeth.)  The game didn't stick around for its photo op.

After work???
