ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 17

Welcome to Week 17 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This is going to be a CRAZY week!  I doubt very seriously that I will get any sewing done.  Knowing me, I'm sure there will be hints of PINK throughout the post.

Let's take a walk through my week...

Zoom Day with Knittingsuek:

I worked on the binding of this lovely quilt - linked above:

MONDAYLook what's in full bloom:

This evening, I ventured out to Quilt Guild and a number of beemates were in attendance, too:

Several shades of PINK were in the photo above.

TUESDAY - The Guest Blogger(s) - Jeannie Follows the Rules

Mother Nature laughed at our plans to meet in-person.  SEW...

We ended up on Zoom, again:

During the meeting, everyone was working on something.  I staystitched my scrappy contribution for this year's Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Drive:

WEDNESDAY - The Guest Blogger(s) - Another Country Heard From

Today was my only day off this week (including Saturday.)  I took care of a number of items on my To Do List. Including packing up and mailing off the first completed quilt from the 2021 Positivity QAL Block Drive Quilt here on the blog:

Click on the link in Sunday's entry to find out more!

Next...

The car was well past due for an oil change, so I stopped here on the way home from the post office:

Then...

This afternoon, I enjoyed my weekly Zoom call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAYThe Guest Blogger(s) - Trekking in PINK

I missed my Weekly Quilt  Group meeting AGAIN!!  :o((

Crazy day at work!!  So much so that I never too my lunch break until 3 PM.

ZoomKNIT is meeting in-person today.  Without me.  The BIG SALE is going on at work this weekend.  Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  Online, over the phone, or at the showroom.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  We are wrapping up PINK month.  I'm on my way to work, so I'll visit everyone later (or tomorrow and post the direct link when I get home, as the party hasn't started yet.)

Until next time...

April 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the April 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.

I'm a scrap quilter who is really enjoying this challenge. For several years, I hosted individual challenges in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Last year, I went global when I offered the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  There were participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world.  It's been SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I changed the "rules" and am pleased to offer the...

Button credit to Susan @ Desert Sky Quilts, updated by me.

This year, baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs we focused on during the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  This year, basically, ANY small quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see May's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

April's theme was...

WORDS

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was PINK so I brought out my scrap basket to see what might inspire me:

Then...

I selected some Orphan blocks and stitched them into a square:

That might have been an overstatement, but I really wanted to prove that the person who abandoned them probably gave up on them too soon.  I also found a fun scrap that might serve as a focal point:

What happened next was serendipitous...

Jo @ ButterZ posted about the  Zippered Placemat that she was making.  That reminded me that I still hadn't tried the TUTORIAL that she shared during the August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  Thanks, again, for writing up those instructions per my request after seeing your July 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry HERE.  The placement of the zipper has changed in the ensuing months and I still needed to "wing it" when it came time to install my zipper.  (No worries, Jo!  I've always had a zipper phobia when it came to adding them to any of sewn item.)

SEW...

I started building around the Pinwheels:

I made a few adjustments:

For the backing, I used an offcut from the 2021 Positivity Prize quilt:

Thanks, Astrid!!  :o))

What thread should I use???  Once I unspooled a length of each, there was a clear winner:

Here it is, all layered up:

Matchstick quilting (with that dusty PINK thread) for the win:

But WAIT!!!  There's more...

Yes, that IS a zipper you see in the photo below:

I used an unconventional method for the installation...

And added some extra lines of stitching to cover my less than stellar zip skills:

All that's left is the binding:

Does my label count for the WORDS prompt???

Binding going on next:

I present my April 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge:

Where's your WORDS, Joyful???

Well, about that...

I tested out this paint marker on a couple of scraps, but it didn't work very well, as evidenced by the wet spots, but NO COLOR:

Then, I tried my PrismaColor pencils with no better result:

That left me to add "stealth words" in the utensil pocket, written with a good old Sharpie marker:

What's next, Joyful???

May will be here soon.  I wonder what the Color of the Month will be?  Angela will let us know in good time, but...

May's theme is:

SQUARES

A project made from squares?  A square project?  Even a cube will do!!  You may have a fun fabric in your stash that is printed with squares.  I'll be looking forward to seeing where YOU go with this prompt!

NOTE:  Angela announced ? for May.  (I will update here, as well as post on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your PINK and/or WORD-y project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Monday, May 2nd @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 36 - Trekking in PINK

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  We have a new participant this month.  Sandra from Australia heard about the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge through Sockjeannious on Ravelry.  Jeannie has been participating this year and Trek15 decided that she wanted to play along.

Here is her brief post...

Well, I tested positive to covid yesterday (Tuesday) and am quite unwell, feel like I’ve got a cross between sinusitis and the flu. Feeling a bit better today though which is good. I won’t be sewing for a few days, so April’s table topper won’t be ready by the end of the month, but the top is finished. I used some 1”, 2” and 2.5” strips. I love how the 1” strips (1/2” finished) look.

I responded with the following...

Oh, goodness! Sorry to hear that you have Covid. The top of your TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry turned out SEW cute with those tiny strips! No worries about not being able to meet Monday’s deadline. You’ll finish it once you are feeling better.

Give Sandra's strippy PINK and (subtly) word-y project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her super stripy little quilt.  I certainly did!  I love that she jumped into this month's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge only a week before the deadline. Thanks for sending a photo to inspire my readers to USE their small fabric strips!

Link Party REMINDER...

The April 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Link Party starts on Friday, April 29th @ 12:01 AM and closes on MONDAY, May 2nd @ 11:59 PM.  There's still time for YOU to start your own PINK and/or WORD-y project.  You are welcome to join in the scrappy fun.  Even if you haven't played along before or don't even have a blog (just like Sandra did!)

Until next time...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 35 - Another Country Heard From

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  We haven't seen or heard from Jane in Australia in several months.  She had other projects to work on this year.  Lo and behold, guess whose email showed up in my inbox today?

I received the following...

Hi Joy,
Checking your blog, as I do, I saw the Pink and Text prompts.
I had just finished this quilt:

And here is the back:

Text! And see right down at the bottom the t.i.n.y bit of pink? The rest got trimmed off with the excess backing. The scraps were here on my table!

I sliced it in three, added some grey between, some pink big stitch quilting and here is my placemat…

It will join the others for distribution at the end of the year.
Funny how that worked out, wonder what the rest of the year will bring?

Hope you and yours are well and happy.

Jane

Give Jane's pretty PINK and word-y project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her sweet quilt.  I certainly did!  SEW happy to hear from you, Jane!! Love that your scrappy finish fit this month's theme for the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge. Thanks for sending photos to inspire my readers to USE their quilt off-cuts!

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 34 - Jeannie and the Rules

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  I heard from Jeannie, again.

Here's what she said...

No idea where I got the idea the April color was blue. Here is my Pink + words challenge.

So...

She made another Challenge entry to align more closely with this month's prompt:

It is about 12” square.  She has some narrow walls at her house, so she's thinking of putting it on display.

Give Jeannie's precisely PINK project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her sweet quilt.  I certainly did!  Thank you for sending photos for the blog, Jeannie.  I appreciate you sharing your project so that others may be inspired to use some fabric scraps, too!

Link Party REMINDER...

The April 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Link Party starts on Friday, April 29th @ 12:01 AM and closes on MONDAY, May 2nd @ 11:59 PM.  At this posting, you have the better part of a week to start your own PINK and/or WORD-y project.  (Deciding on your own color, like Jeannie originally did this month is fine, too.)  Even if you haven't played along before, YOU are more than welcome to join in the scrappy fun!

Sew Some Love Sunday - Positivity QAL Block Drive - The 1st Completed Quilt

Welcome to another edition on Sew Some Love Sunday!!  It's a very good day here at The Joyful Quilter.  Look what Needleb brought over yesterday:

She cut the binding before working on the other project she brought:

Once she moved over to the sewing machine, I decided to trim up the quilt and prepare the binding:

This morning I worked on sewing down the binding during my weekly Zoom call with Knittingsuek:

DS2 helped with photos this afternoon, but they didn't turn out:

So we headed out just before dinner to try again:

Thrilled to have this one complete:

Blocks were donated by members of the Quilters Knitting group on Ravelry, my local Bee members, and generous blog readers like YOU.  Special thanks to Needleb for the beautiful longarm quilting on this one and to Maggie for arranging and assembling the blocks!!  I prepared, attached, and stitched down the binding

Thank you, again, to all who contributed.  What a fabulous team effort in response to Preeti's 2021 Positivity QAL @ Sew Preeti Quilts.  This quilt will be headed to Mercyful Quilts in the next day or so.

FYI...

Positivity 2022 is coming soon.  Details to follow.  If anyone is interested in another Block Drive, please indicate that in the comments below.  In the meantime,  my Quilting Angels and I will be finishing up the other quilt tops from last year's QAL/Block Drive and I will share those here as they are completed.  I was assured that the need is ongoing so the delay that was caused by my moving house would not be a problem.  All blocks received were documented here on the blog and the completed quilt tops are safely tucked away to be loaded on the longarm and finished between our various other projects.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 16

Welcome to Week 16 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Don't faint.  This week, I just MIGHT do some PINK scrap sewing.

Read on and all will be revealed...

I enjoyed my weekly Zoom call with Knittingsuek:

My reblooming azalea's 2nd color has blossomed:

MONDAY - Today was a mixed bag.  After the housework was done, I did a bit of scrappy PINK quilting:

Late in the evening, my DH paid a visit to the studio.  You'll have to wait for Wednesday's entry to see what transpired.  Fair warning... cover your eyes, if you don't want to see the happy dance that I'll be doing.  :P

TUESDAY - After running a few errands, some PINK binding was prepared:

Last week, I had fun decorating the top of my water bottle...

And today I got a surprise!!!  The rhododendrons at the back corner of our house have begun to bloom:

WEDNESDAY - A new (and terribly exciting) Wonderful Wednesday post went live today.  Here's a little hint for you:

Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

Aside from all that, today was a bit of a let down.  I really THOUGHT that I was booked off for today, but found that I was scheduled to work.  Sigh.

THURSDAY - Weekly Quilt Bee met without me.  Because work.  Some really BIG news was announced today:

Flyers will be hitting mailboxes over the weekend and early next week.  I'll be there.  Will YOU??  Discounts will be available for online orders, as well.

Same with ZoomKNIT.  I saw (almost) everyone last week, so I'm OK with that.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  There was a bit of scrappy experimentation going on in my studio involving a paint pen this week.  Check back soon to see if it was a success or an epic fail:

Until next time...
