Holiday festivities clouded my vision and the merriment delayed the release of this post!! Please accept my apologies (and make sure to read to the end for an important announcement.)
Welcome to the DECEMBER 2025 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!! I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here. (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy. Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...
In 2025, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge. Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects. Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs. Basically, ANY quilted item qualifies. The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)
There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing. While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus. It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.
This month's color was:
RAINBOW
The theme for December was:
PEACE/GIVE PEACE a CHANCE
What project did you choose this month, Joyful???
I decided on another entry for my Words and Phrases series and got to work on tracing letters during one of my art sessions early last week.
Things went SEW fast that...
I grabbed a FQ size scrap from the cutting table, a piece of batting offcut, layered it up, and started quilting before realizing that I hadn't taken a single process photo:
At least, I got a photo of the trimmed piece prior to finishing the piece:
When I mentioned binding to LeeAnna during our Weekly Zoom Calls...
She suggested I use a rainbow print as faux-piping. I thought that sounded like a brilliant idea and went searching in my MULTICOLORED scrap basket once our call was complete:
I came up with enough appropriately sized scrap strips from my 2024 QFK Crayon Challenge that accommodated the strip width required for binding:
Here is my completed December 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge project...
Where is its missing is phrase, Joyful???
Well, I had intended to apply the phrase after showing the quilt off at my Weekly Quilt Group.
But...
Ella was in the house and she isn't able to join us often. Plus, it was her birthday and several members suggested I give it to her. I thought, "Why not?!" I can always make another, if I choose!
So...
Here is my entry with its sweet recipient. Happy birthday, Ella! I hope this little quilt brings you a rainbow of joy:
What's next, Joyful???
I'm guessing that Angela will probably announce the Color of the Month for January on her Rainbow Scrap Challenge post tomorrow. I'll still post an update here on the blog as soon as I find out what she decides, but...
THE TABLE SCRAPS CHALLENGE IS CANCELED FOR 2026!!!
As you might know, I've had some health issues for the past year and a half. I'm currently doing better, but they're not completely resolved (and won't be because they are chronic.) In an effort to simplify my life, I've been resigning from various responsibilities since my retirement. My apologies for any disappointment my sudden departure might cause.
If YOU would like to begin hosting this monthly event, please comment below this post.
It's been a fun 5 years, but I can no longer continue the tradition. I hope you will still visit Angela and continue sewing the fabric scraps from your cutting table with her Color of the Month. I know that I will! Please know that I appreciate each quilter who participated in the TSC over the years. I'm SEW glad that my prompts encouraged you (even though some of them were so... challenging.)
NOTE: Special thanks to Judy @ Busy Hands are Happy Hands!! She suggested the Give PEACE a Chance theme. I'm looking forward to seeing what aspect of the PEACE prompt inspires your work! Remember, though, you are NOT required to use the prompt provided!! The main goal is using up some of your scraps.
And now...
It's time for YOU to link up your PEACE/GIVE PEACE a CHANCE and/or RAINBOW project in the LINK PARTY below.
All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, January 7th @ 11:59PM (EDT).
Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

What a great finish AND a fun birthday gift!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteHas it really been 5 years of the Table Scraps Challenge? Wow! Thank you for hosting and for all the inspiration, Joy. I've really enjoyed participating and you know I'll keep sewing with my scraps! The theme of Peace was perfect for this last month - your pretty mini quilt is perfect for it and what a sweet gift, too.
