The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 42 - Jeannie Goes Around and Around with PURPLE

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  Jeannie finished off this project at the beginning of the month, but I have been terrible about getting posts together, much less posted in a timely manner.  My apologies.  Hopefully, you all will forgive me!

This is the project that Jeannie shared on Ravelry...

I finished my July Table Scraps Challenge (circles/dot/spots & purple).  I made a coiled bowl using 6/32" cotton filler cord instead of clothesline:

Give Jeannie's BLUE project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her circular project.  I certainly did!  Thank you for sending this photo for the blog, Jeannie.  What a fun way to play out this month's challenge!  This might be just the project for the skinny strips that many quilters have been saving.

Link Party REMINDER...

The July party started on Friday, July 29th @ 12:01 AM, but you have through Monday, August 1st @ 11:59 PM.  At this posting, you still have time to start a PURPLE and/or Circle-y, spotty, dotty project of your own to link up.  If it's a small project, there may even have time to finish!  Will YOU join in the scrappy fun?

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 30

Welcome to Week 30 of The Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This month, our hostess called for working with our PURPLE scraps.  I'm here to share what I did this week.  Did it involve scrap sewing?

Read on to see...

SUNDAY - I began the week with a Zoom call to Knittingsuek:

During the afternoon, I put together a journal for the Flowers Magic Challenge:

Here's where the day took a wrong turn:

Don't worry!  Even though the hit was nearly "head on", and the airbag deployed, DS2 came out relatively unscathed.  The car?  Not so much!

MONDAY - Work... NOT!!  (My job-share partner was just getting out of her car when I showed up.)  In light of the events of yesterday afternoon, I completely neglected my weekly calendar update.  Oh, well!  That allowed time for errands and made it such that I was available to take DS2 to Urgent Care for the (unseen) injuries sustained in the accident.

Here is the first lesson in the Drawing Workshop that I'm doing with @judywoods_artist and @nicolabennettart.  We were tasked with making marks based on onomatopoeia words:

TUESDAY - Chores, phone calls, and art-ing occupied my day.  Tonight, I spent some time with my Monthly Evening Quilt Bee:

Afterwards, I caught up on the Flowers Magic lesson with @camilagarciaart, opting to only do the drawing portion.  I wasn't in the mood to do a collage:

WEDNESDAY - Work... and a really bad Wordle day.  :o((

This afternoon made up for it with a fun Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

Work was followed by a quick stop at the grocery store and a bit of ICAD art-ing before dinner:

FRIDAY - (Here's the sewing part!)  TABLE SCRAPS Link Party post was released today:

Knit Group???  For approximately 30 minutes!  What did I see while there?  One of my Custom Quilted Scrap Baskets:

Why such a hasty departure, Joyful???

Apparently, I was scheduled to work, but no one mentioned it.  And... We KNOW it wasn't written on my calendar this week!  Sigh...  This required some extra art-ing when I got home:

A wild and crazy page using the GEOMETRIC prompt for Junk Journal July with @megjournals.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Every quilt has a story and I'm enjoying the PURPLE scrappy goodness of being curled up with this one:

I'm excited to discover what my ORANGE scrap basket holds for next month!  Angela announced it in today's post as the Color of the Month for August.

Until next time...

July 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the July 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.  I'll kick things off with what I made from the quilted scrap shown below:

I host this challenge in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  It's been SEW much fun to offer the...

Button credit to Susan @ Desert Sky Quilts, updated by me.

Since basically ANY small quilted item qualifies for this challenge, I scrounge through my scrap basket to see what I can come up with.

Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word is revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see August's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

July's theme was...

CIRCLES/SPOTS/DOTS

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was PURPLE so I brought out my scrap basket to see what I might find to inspire me:

Right near the top was the offcut corners from making my PURPLE scrap basket...

The one shown at the top of the post was unstitched to reveal this:

Which I promptly finished:

Check out those blueberries:

This little mug rug is perfect for a tiny cup of tea!  The miniscule mug was thrown by DS1 at Happy Hippo Pottery Camp when he was in middle school - half a lifetime ago:

That was a quick finish, but WAIT!!!  There's more...

Since my TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry was done, I decided to do something with the other offcut corner that was lurking in my basket of scraps.

What did you make, Joyful???

This small pincushion with dots and swirls:

I believe my friend Diane will recognize the fabrics.

Spoiler Alert!!!

Even though stuffing and sewing up a small pincushion SHOULD have been another easy win, it didn't get completed.  I stuffed it with Poly-Fil, but never brought in my supply of crushed walnut shells from the car.  The shells gets added for a bit of weight.

What's next, Joyful???

August will be arrives at the end of the weekend.  Do you have any hopes for what the new Color of the Month will be?  Angela will let us know soon enough, while we wait...

August's theme is:

EMBROIDERY

NOTE:  It might be an unusual prompt for some of you, but just see what you can do with it.  Hand or machine.  No maximum or minimum amount to include!  Angela announced ORANGE for August.  (I will update on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your PURPLE and/or Circle/Spots/Dots project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Monday, August 1st @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 41 - Trekking Thru the Selvages

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  Sandra/Trek15 was on a roll after last month's Challenge entry.

She wrote the following in her post on Ravelry...

Over the weekend I made five more themed placemats with selvedges.  This is so much fun and I’m using all the leftover bits of batting too:

Apparently, admitting that actually ended up lighting a fire under her to get busy.  SEW very busy!!!  Sorry for taking such a long time to release your post.

Give Sandra's PURPLE project (and friends) some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing them.  I certainly did!  Thank you for sending these photos for the blog, Sandra.  I appreciate you sharing your these small quilts so that others may be inspired to use their fabric AND batting scraps, too!

Link Party REMINDER...

The July party starts TOMORROW!!! Friday, July 29th @ 12:01 AM and through Monday, August 1st @ 11:59 PM.  At this posting, you still have the weekend to start and maybe even finish a PURPLE and/or Circle-y, spotty, dotty project of your own.  Will YOU join in the scrappy fun?

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 29

Welcome to Week 29 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Don't anyone faint...

SUNDAY - Look at me!!  I'm sewing with some PURPLE fabric scraps:

I also did a collage about sewing:

There was also a Zoom with Knittingsuek, but we were so excited to jump into our conversation that I forgot to take a photo.  :o((

MONDAY - Work meant a game of Wordle...

And Quordle, too, while waiting for the phone to ring:

This afternoon, today's journal pages went from simple...

... To a bit more involved:

This evening, I attended Quilt Guild for our  Ice Cream Social.  I have a funny story that goes along with this photo...

... As usual, I forgot my handmade nametag at home so I was recruited to pull a name for the prize drawing.  Maggie was sitting right behind me and joked that I should pick her as the winner.  The photo above shows the box of goodies she won!!  I couldn't do that again, if she paid me.  LOL!!

I came home to find gremlins were running rampant on Blogger.  No less than three of the friends I follow had previously released "fresh" posts show up in my email.

TUESDAY - A mountain of paperwork and a passel of errands kept me busy today.  Day 49's ICAD prompt was wallpaper, so I used one of the last remaining scraps, expanding the design with some paint to fill the space:

WEDNESDAY - Impromptu doctor appointment?  Yep!  I was on the call list for a dermatology visit.  From phone call to office visit in just ONE HOUR!!  This is the (elementary) art journal page that I did when I got home

Later, I enjoyed my Zoom call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - Work.  More Wordle...

... And Quordle.  I won both:

During a slow part of the day, I did the caricatures in the journal entry shown below.  Later, I collaged the drawing into my journal and embellished the page with paint, handmade paper and a phrase:

FRIDAY - Knit Group!!!  Britt and I were roped into untangling a skein of yarn...

... For Hilary.  Normally, she provides this service for me.  I'm pretty impressed with myself and my assistant because that skein was a massive mess:

Tracy was in attendance today, as well.  Stacy, too, but I missed a photo of Beth and Linda:

Afterwards, I went to say goodbye to my PURPLE readers:

They were donated, along with their lavender case, because they can't support my new prescription.  I was a bit sad to drop them into the slot shown below, but they served me well for a number of years:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  My main RSC goal for the month was accomplished by coloring and labeling my Pas de Deux planning sheet - even if the camera didn't pick up the PURPLE pencil very well:

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 28

Welcome to Week 28 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week went by in a blur.  Thank you to all who have tolerated my (relatively) new passion for paper and special thanks to those who have made kind comments about my foray into art journaling.  I've been distracted by that and feel like I'm being a bad blogger, again.  I didn't start this post until late last night and I only managed to visit SOME of last week's RSC posts, but not many.  :o((

There is a bit of good news, though, so keep reading...

SUNDAYI started the week with a Zoom call to my good friend Knittingsuek...

Then PURPLEafied my gallery wire display:

Just before lunch, I headed over to B's house for an Artist's Play Date:

I worked with PURPLE papers...

As well as PURPLE paint and a fun homemade stamp that Britt made:

MONDAY - Today was a work day.  I was rewarded with a Quordle WIN:

I went a bit minimalistic on my VERDANT prompt for ICAD:

TUESDAY - I combined scraps of PURPLE paper with a bit of the same color paint for today's Fodder Challenge lesson on nested "luggage" tags.  The page begged to be decorated with flowers:

WEDNESDAY - Spent a portion of the morning digging through the PURPLE scrap basket at the top of the post.  Here's what I found:

The off-cut corners from the making of that Quilted Scrap Basket.  I ripped out the stitching on this one...

... And I'm in the process of turning the other one into a little pin cushion:

During my weekly Zoom call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color I was oh-SEW-happy to report that I had actually done some sewing:

THURSDAY - Another work day, another Quordle WIN.  This time with a banner that flashed across the screen saying I had gotten a Birdie award for getting all four words in only SEVEN guesses, but it disappeared before posing for its photo op:

FRIDAY - Another minimal collage.  This one with a TRAVEL prompt.  I accepted a map of Boston from a special book that Britt is beginning to cannibalize.  I thought it would be perfect to pair with the boarding pass that I found in a recent thrift store book score.  A couple of images from a travel article in an old Quilter's Home magazine filled out the design:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

Today's ICAD prompt was "Orange" so I have fun with this collage:

One more photo, for those of you wondering about the sunglasses I chose:

I went for full coverage, but need to go have the prescription checked.  The glasses are tinted AND polarized, but I'm still getting sun glare headaches and I can't seem to see to read book print with them (even though they were made with my regular progressive script.)  Anyone have experience with this issue?  I was really looking forward to being able to read my book out on the back deck, by the pool, or at the beach.  At the moment, none of those scenarios are remotely possible.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!
