Project QUILTING Season 11 - Challenge 11.3

Put a Heart on It

I'm shocked!  After following Project QUILTING in the past, this year I'm ALL IN, thanks to the encouragement of Sassy and her Farm Quilter blog.

Resistance is Futile...

Jayne's Mini Hearts, Sort of...

When this challenge was released, I was in the middle of my last day of Retreat. I remembered to look when I got home, by my brain didn't allow the information to sink in. It was fried!!

The morning after, I checked back to read over the challenge more carefully.

(Insert song of Quilting Angels here!!!)

This Project QUILTING thing is really working for me!! Not SEW long ago, Jayne at Twiggy and Opal posted a Heart mini that I absolutely ❤️❤️❤️!!!

SEW...

I'm going to use my scraps to try a heart for this week's challenge:

Mine will look a little different than Jayne's.

Why is that, Joyful?!?

Well, from the moment I saw her mini, I knew that I would alter the design when I made a heart of my own.

How will yours differ, Joyful??!

Here's Jayne's layout:

I prepared to draw out my design...

... Then brought my joyful vision to life in 2-D:

I chose to fill in some of the space that Jayne left "blank" because that worked better for my scrappy design aesthetic.  Soon enough, we'll see if it actually works the way I thought it might.

Along about Wednesday, I began cutting my background pieces:

On Thursday, I did some sewing, HST style:

By Saturday afternoon, the top was ready to quilt:

It was quilted before dinner:

Binding  AND a label:

My entry Put a Heart on It is now complete:

Funny how it all played out.  You see, that little inspiration quilt has just arrived at my house.  Jayne is a constant source of inspiration for me and when I went back to get a look at her little mini, to solidify my Challenge design, I found that it was listed for sale in her Esty shop.

What is a "fan girl" to do???

Hit the Add to Cart button, of course.  :o))

MINE!!!

And the fraternal twin shot:

In certain light, it appears that I may have gone a little too dark with my gray background pieces.  Oh, scrap!!

What was the reason behind this project, Joyful???

As with my other Project QUILTING challenge pieces, there is a method to my madness.  I needed a Thank You gift for a dear friend.  This rainbow heart mini seemed like just the ticket!

Thank you, Project QUILTING, for magically playing into my dream of making this project a reality by hosting this challenge.

Speaking of Oh Scrap!!

  2. What a nice post--a quilt from inspiration to finish! I like both of the minis, but I like yours slightly better because of the darker gray background pieces. Two lovely hearts for Valentine's Day.

  8. Oh Joy, I'm so glad you are doing Project QUILTING!!! I just adore your mini heart and I don't think you went too dark with the grey. I actually thought you were doing a series of hearts, starting with the one you bought being the least filled...your heart was filled a bit more, the third one would be missing a piece or two in the middle and the last one would be all filled up! Honestly, I'm just so happy you are joining me on the wonderful ride that is PQ!!!
