This month's photo inspiration:
No blog? No problem, you will be able to have your scrappy table runners/toppers hosted here on The Joyful Quilter. Just pop me an email with your name/state and a photo of your completed project and I will add it to a follow-up post.
From our participants...
Thank you to Judy @ Busy Hands Are Happy Hands for providing this months runner and topper links! Judy had the following ideas for us:
I follow Connie Kresin Campbell at Freemotion by the River. She has a lot of tutorials and many free patterns. This is one that always catches my eye.
It reminds me that you can always take 3 or so blocks, 8” or 9”, add some sashing and boom you have a table runner! I have a small dining room buffet, inherited from my mom! Some larger patterned runners are too big so I am always looking for an alternative!
And I just found this video tutorial on MSQC. https://youtu.be/HSV_ Lw1b7Nc It's called Patriotic Periwinkle Table Topper.
And Amy at Diary of a Quilter has some great ones too.
And I got my I Heart Mini pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew. Allison has some awesome ideas.
Got favorites???
Email me , if you have a "go to" runner or topper pattern. I'll add it to a future post. Thanks!
Where's the table covering, Joyful???
I'm getting to that. Since it was RED month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I pulled out this Quilted Scrap Basket:
SEW...
What happened next was some pulling of 2.5" strips for and a chunk of background fabric for the blocks going down the center of my Red Braid table runner:
... And some trimming, followed by sewing the pieced section:
Once that was done, it was off to the Design Floor...
The question became matched...
... Or unmatched pairs:
It was at this point that I exercised my Phone a Friend option. Needleb was happy to weigh in on the matter and then I was back at the machine to make a start. So far, so good:
It was surprising how quickly the runner grew, as a rhthym developed:
A rhythm of match, sew, press. Match, sew, press. Until my machine had a little hiccup:
With the machine cleaned, I continued until it was time to cook dinner:
After dinner, I finished up the top of my TABLE SCRAPS runner and tested it out on the longarm table:
And one on the back of the living room sofa:
The backing was chosen, then quilt was layered and quilted:
Binding came next and I made my selection from the following scraps from Libby @ Life on the Hill:
Here is my May 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge piece...
And...
In place on my dining room table, but you'll find more information about this project HERE:
It's time to add your own projects to the Table Scraps Link Party below!!
Until next time...
It's a Cover Up!!!
Your red runner is a beauty, and a perfect gift for your mail carrier.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this monthly chanllenge, Joy. Hugs
That braid design is such a great one, Joy! Pretty in red, but would work in any color combination. It makes a lovely gift, too. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a stunning braided runner!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I did a Christmas table runner in a similar design except you started with an on point square in the middle and the chevron shape moved out from there in opposite directions. Plus it was done quilt as you go style, so all that was needed was a narrow border and binding.

I'll have to try that pattern sometime.... when life slows down a touch. It came out great.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty job on the braided runner!
ReplyDeleteLovely braided runner. It would be great for decorating several months. For July 4th it would be lovely with some blue pieces to accent. That give me some ideas. Thanks
ReplyDeleteYour braid turned out so pretty and red is my favorite color!! I find braids a tad intimidating..LOL
ReplyDeleteYour braided table topper is beautiful, Joy! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a neat table runner. I'm impressed with how involved it is. (said the gal who could only get one block done!)
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely finish. Have you been able to deliver it yet?
ReplyDeleteOh dear I just finished my May placemat and missed the link up :(
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely red projects!
