ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC19 - Week 38

Welcome to Week 38 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  As you may recall, this month is all about our PURPLE scraps.  I like to share projects done in the Color of the Month.  This week, that means I'm sharing a LOT of what's hanging on my Gallery Wire and a LITTLE bit of sewing with PURPLE scraps...

Well,  that was the plan.  And then my computer started acting up.  AGAIN.  SEW... I had to go with what I had and will hope to add those photos next week.

SUNDAY - First, let me begin by sharing a link to my 2019 Quilty Orphan Adoption post.  You have until 9 PM on Sunday, Sept. 22nd to put your "name in the hat" for FIVE "prizes" that I'm giving away!!

MONDAY - I enjoyed my morning cuppa in the handwoven PURPLE mug rug by my friend Belinda and the new issue of Quilting Arts magazine:

TUESDAY - My time at Girls Night Out was spent seeing buttons on a knitting UFO.  There's PURPLE in it:

WEDNESDAY - This evening, I stuffed Prototype One for DS1's computer "wrist rest", but I thought it would make a better picture cushion:

THURSDAY - I did the same with Prototype Two, hoping it may sit the intended purpose:

FRIDAY - This morning, I went to Knit Group only to find that most of the group had arranged a change of venue for the day.  I didn't have time to go that far from home.  A couple others joined me at our regular spot.

Hilary helped me with the buttonhole to finish my (scrappy) Tubularity:

This afternoon, I met a friend for ice cream and a chat.  It was such a pretty day that we decided to go for a walk along the Riverwalk.

After that, I was ready for a shower, but instead... I had just enough time to get to September's Friday Night Sew-In.  No PURPLE projects tonight, however, I did come home from Knit Group earlier with a few new fabrics:

Fall 2019 Quilty Orphan Adoption

Welcome to the Fall 2019 Quilty Orphan Adoption!!  Cynthia over at Quilting is more fun than Housework hosts this Quilty Orphan Adoption event  twice each year.  I try to participate when I can make time to search for items to be re-homed.

This time, I even set a calendar reminder, but was busy with Carla's My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop hosted at Creatin' in the Sticks and the 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet at Benita Skinner's Creative Space this week.  I don't usually release TWO posts in ONE day, but needed to join Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge LINK PARTY on her So Scrappy blog today.

Once I returned home from my Playful Portraiture class with Lyric Kinard late this afternoon, I noticed the new-to-me post about the Orphan Adoption.  It was a forehead smacking moment.  :o((

I really TRY to plan ahead for the event!!  It just didn't happen.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC19 - Week 37

Welcome to Week 37 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week, thought that I might actually get a bit of PURPLE scrap sewing done.  I gathered a few bits and pieces.  A plan was in place.

SUNDAY - This evening, I released a new Sew Some Love post.

MONDAY -  I had a DREAM I moment this afternoon.  Sandra @ mmm quilts! would be SEW proud of me.  :o))

This jumbo pin cushion started as an attempt at making a [?] for DS1.  It ended up a (failed) prototype.

TUESDAY - In case you haven't heard, today starts the 2nd week of the 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet.  There are SEW many wonderful bloggers participating.  I was one of last year's guests.  Check out the 2018 Online Quilters Meet and Greet participants HERE for another extensive list of quilt bloggers.

This evening was the Early September meeting of my Evening Quilt Bee.  I brought a few projects to work on:

THURSDAY - My Weekly Quilt Bee had a Charity Sew Day today.  I took my toys and played along to make some very special Holiday Stockings.  This is Jean.  She made an extra special stocking AND a beautiful PURPLE quilt to go with it:

FRIDAY - This morning started off on a very good note.  I was SEW surprised when I opened Julie's newest post that I just had to laugh.  You MIGHT have heard me (because it was that BIG!)  Follow this LINK, if you'd like to find out more.

SEW...  Let me introduce you to my favorite block...

I present the humble square.

Small. measuring 5 inches in a Charm Pack:

Smaller, at just 2.5 inches in a pack of Mini Charms:

And...

Smallest, my personal favorite, at a mere 1 inch:

There are SEW many ways to combine squares into quilts...

One patch squares, sewn in a row, as shown below:

Four patch:

Nine patch:

Plus block, straight-set or on-point:

And on and on...

I recently use squares (in two sizes) to make a Double Nine Patch Tiny Tuesday block for the 2019 Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

One of my current WIPs features 4-Patch blocks...

... Given to me by Dee Dee because she was having trouble figuring out a design plan for them and knew that I would "do something" with them.  I finally did in June of this year:

I will use the resulting quilt top for longarm  practice and will donate the completed quilt to one of our Guild's charity programs.

Here is my MOST FAVORITE quilt (top) made of squares:

It's my SCRAPPY version of Rachel Hauser's Rainbow Picnic Sew Along quilt from 2017.  The instructions were posted on her blog Stitched in Color.  Ignore the fact that I'm sharing the UN-quilted state.

It HAS been quilted...

... But my computer isn't currently on speaking terms with my external hard drive (and I wasn't able to locate a photo with it quilted.)  The quilt STILL hasn't gotten a binding attached:

I have big plans for its binding and simply haven't taken the time to implement them, as one quilt or another keeps jumping ahead in line.  It involves a LOT of scrappy strips!!

For the My Favorite Quilt Block Blog Hop, I made something a BIT smaller.  I have used a scrap of  small squares combined with a larger square (and a rectangle) to create a Quilted Mug Rug.

Sew Some Love Sunday - Uncounted

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  It's been QUITE some time since the last post in this series.  Today, I'm here to share my long-overdue (and uncounted) Hands2Help quilt for this year.

During the Charity Quilt Challenge, I was steadily quilting 3 quilts from the Brunswick Quilt Guild destined for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project.  That was a BIG task (for me) and it took a LOT of time!  Unfortunately, the donation that I had planned for H2H got put on hold.

Until now....

From then until now, I have been working through 2 additional gift quilts that gave me any number of problems between them.  The Artist's Palette and The Wedding Tee Quilt presented longarm tension issues and design delays.  You can see them HERE and HERE.  They are done and I was ready to face a new challenge!

This bundle of fabric was calling to me:

All from stash, mind you!  :o))

In an afternoon, a transformation occurred:

Nearly a quilt top.

Fast forward to several days/weeks later...

I chose Jack's Basket this year because it was a way to show my friend Kathy how much I appreciate her.  You see, her son was born with Downs.  THIS is his story.

This is the quilt that I made with Nancy's inspiration.  Simple Gifts pattern (from the booklet Fat Quarter Love by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr of Modern Quilt Studio) as a guide and DS1's mathematical mind:

As with most of my quilt tops, this one sat on the rail while I worked on other projects.  This week, I decided to load it:

DS2 helped me select a thread color:

I shared the quilt at yesterday's Sew/Craft Friends-zy event and Britt was kind enough to snap a picture or two:

Just in time to use the previously prepared binding as one of this month's Sew/Craft Friends-zy projects:

I will be mailing this one off to Jack's Basket.  I'm SEW pleased to have (FINALLY!) fulfilled my commitment.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC19 - Week 36

Welcome to Week 36 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This also began the final month of the Summer 2019 (Ravelry) UFO Club.  Time to get those projects finished up for this quarter's totals!  I'm not sure what, if anything, will be added to my previous two completed quilts for this session.

On the scrap front, Angela made an early announcement on Friday (due to the threat of Hurricane Dorian) that the Color of the Month for September will be:

Many of the RSC Quilters are SEW excited!!

SUNDAY - This day did NOT end up the way that I had planned.  A home improvement project ate my day.  (And yesterday, too!)

MONDAY - I'm having computer problems.  So, if this is all the post you get... you will know why.  Please bear with me, as my Tech Support Guy no longer lives at home.

TUESDAY - The day began with Knit Group and ended with PURPLE fingernails, but which one of these options...

Some would say that it's a very UN-Joy-like choice, but I actually LOVE it.  Yay!!!  (That's Hilary's non-PURPLE selection in the background, as she opted to hold onto Summer for 3 more weeks.)

WEDNESDAY - I went shopping with a little friend this morning:

Notice... PURPLE shoes and a PURPLE car!!  She also had A PURPLE barrette, but the able of the shot cut that out of the frame.

THURSDAY - The Junior Quilter and I stopped by my Weekly Quilt Group this morning.  The ladies are lovingly referred to as The Quilting Grandmas.  The fringes of Hurricane Dorian brougt rain that beat us to the car.  Oops!  Lucky thing that  I thought to wear my NEW rain boots:

This afternoon, I loaded my Jack's Basket quilt onto the frame:

I got a bit done before dinner and went right back to it, afterwards.  It was all fun and games til the bobbin ran out!  :o((

FRIDAY - My little friend and I went to the park this morning.  We stopped by to see the knitters, but Linda has been sewing again (and now I have ANOTHER new project to add to my list!) and this time she used some scraps recycled denim:

We had lunch on the go and the late afternoon found me back at the quilt frame.  I managed to finish the quilting... after replacing the bobbin, yet again:

Don't cringe at the color combo!!  (You think I can't see you through the computer screen?)  All will be made clear once the super cute striped binding has been applied.
