Mail Call Monday - Get Messy - Prize WIN for a Zine Queen

Welcome to a new edition of Mail Call Monday!!  When I returned from Quilt Retreat on Friday, I returned to a happy mailbox.  I was thrilled to discover the small parcel waiting for me.  But what could it be???  I hadn't ordered anything.

It had my name all over it...

Literally!!  :o))

Thankfully, Caylee's beautifully hand-lettered addition to the envelope made it across the ocean in one piece:

This package came to me all the way from Germany:

What's inside, Joyful???

The contents of the package was a fun collection of cards and stickers...

As well as the book you see at the bottom of the photo above and Caylee also included a copy of this inspirational Zine created by artist Erin Ware:

Here is the collection of zines that I made during the Get Messy Ama-zine workshop event and subsequent lessons during the Season of Ease and Joy, my introduction to Get Messy Art membership:

Since I had watched ALL of the ama-ZINE classes and made 8 zines during the Season of Ease and Joy, I signed up for the chance to win, but...

I never expected to win a prize and earn a Zine Queen crown!

Thank you to @cayleegreyGet Messy, and the @getmessyartjournal team for a fantastic introduction to #getmessyart and for my sweet prize, too!!  I'm looking forward to adding the items I received into my art journals.

UPDATE...

I used one of the stickers (cut to fit) on a small journal cover yesterday afternoon:

Project inspiration from @aworkofheartstudio Watch. Learn. Play. Lab from Saturday night.

Until next time...

Mail Call Monday - Say What?! Prize Patrol - L.O.N.G. Overdue!!!

Welcome to another edition of Mail Call Monday!!  It's been quite a while since the last post in this series.  This one is of the outgoing variety.  As the title indicated, it was a Prize Patrol shipment.  Prize Patrol???  What???

Make that Say What...

The Say What?! Blog Hop, that is.

Don't you just hate it when something COMPLETELY falls off your mental radar?!?!

Thank goodness I was checking through my calendar a couple of weeks ago looking for a late-April date!  I spotted a name and address when suddenly memories came flooding back to me.  That DOES explain the small collection of fabrics I found on the end of the ironing board.

You know the one???

The stack of fabrics that has been there so long that you don't even recall what they were for!!  Well, that happened to me the day after Memorial Day.

Here's the fabric:

Once I was reminded what the fabric scraps were for, I got right to work making...

These strip sets:

Those turned into a pair of Pinwheel blocks:

What did you do with the Pinwheels, Joyful???

Well, I decided to pair them with plain squares, stitched them together, and layered them up for quilting:

THIS is what it morphed into:

Here is the completed Quilted Thread Catcher:

It was quite a challenge...

To get a very good photo in the evening light:

The PRIZE DRAWING winner was...

Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing!  She has received her purple and teal quilted thread catcher so I can share it with you.  Thankfully, she is thrilled with it!  I was a bit worried that she might not like the shades I chose.  ("Purple people" can be funny about things like that, you know.)

Congratulations again, Kathleen!

Until next time...

Wonderful Wednesday - SAHRR 2023 - Prize Patrol

Welcome to a new edition of Wonderful Wednesday here at The Joyful Quilter blog!!  I'm here to report on a SAHRR prize.

Wait... What?!?!

I recently received an unexpected email from Roseanne @ Home Sewn By Us.

Here's what she had to say:

Hi! I have good news to share with you. Your name was drawn as one of the winners for the 2023 SAHRR. You have won a $25 gift certificate from Missouri Star Quilt Company (MSQC). Is that something you would like to have and use? If so, I'll send it to you via email. I'll need your full name and your preferred email address. I'd like to personally thank you for participating in the QAL this year. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

My reply...

Oh, wow!! This is a fun surprise. Thank you, Roseanne!! Of course, I would use a gift certificate to MSQC. I'm sure I can find something fun to buy!  :o))

SEW exciting!!!
Joy

Want to know the BEST part???

I didn't even remember there WERE prizes this year!!!  How fun is that?!

I used the windfall...

To purchase an item that I have resisted for quite some time:

Image compliments of Missouri Star Quilt Company.

I'm hoping that its use will induce flatter seams on my quilt blocks.  Do YOU use a "Quilter's" Clapper?  If you do, I'd be interested in hearing your reviews on the product.  Is buyer's remorse the next item on my quilting list?  (I'm just wondering if I wasted my gift card on a fancy block of wood - even though I'll find out soon enough.)

Thanks, again, Roseanne!  I appreciate your generosity.

(Edited to add)  Less than a week later...

This package arrived on my porch:

Here's what was inside and I put it right to work:

Until next time...

Wonderful Wednesday - Little GREEN Apples - Prize Patrol

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday!!  I'm here to with a special announcement.  If you were here last week, you may know what's coming.  Well, the title of the post might have tipped you off, as well.  :o))

Anyway...

Here's a little backstory in case you are new here.  Those who visit often know that when I participate in a Blog Hop, I like to offer a prize to one lucky reader.  As luck would have it, there was a Blog Hop just last week.

a Sew-It, Show-It Challenge

What's the prize, Joyful???

For this Hop, I offered a GREEN mug rug (or the color of the winner's choosing.)

Did you draw a name???

Yes, I did.  As stated in my post, at 9PM on Sunday, March 26th, a winning name was drawn.

Drum roll, please...

The winner of the Little GREEN Apples Blog Hop prize drawing is:

NANCY L.

Congratulations, Nancy!!!  I have sent an email requesting your mailing address and the color preference for your prize mug rug.

Here was what she had to say:

Oh doing the happy dance here!! Thank you so much. This is so exciting!!

And because it feels wrong for a quilt blog post to NOT have a quilty picture...

The photo above is an example a photo of what Nancy won.

She emailed to let me know it had arrived:

It came and is just as cute as can be! Thank you so much!!

Until next time...

Sew Some Love Sunday - The Positivity Prize

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  Back before my great migration to the new house, I offered a prize to one lucky participant in Preeti's 2021 Positivity QAL.  As luck would have it, many months were taken up with the packing, the move and the aftermath of it.  By and by, things started to settle down and I was finally prepared to accept delivery of the winning quilt for finishing.

Here's the paper(less) trail...

The Positivity prize offer can be found HERE.

The Prize Winner was announced by Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts.  It was @AstridReflux on IG and she can also be found @ Blahg Blahg Blahg (but be forewarned that she uses a bit of colorful language on her blog.)  Fortunately, considering the ongoing need, everyone understood that with the extenuating circumstances of my move and The Beast's need for a doctor visit, the quilting would need to be delayed.  (None of us had any idea just how long that delay would be!)

Just over two weeks ago, I received a gentle reminder/request for the quilting to be completed in the near future.  Preeti and Bernie @ Needle and Foot Fine Fabrics were hoping that the 2021 QAL would (finally!) be completed before the 2022 Positivity QAL was announced. More on that later.

Timing is everything...

It turned out that their timing was impeccable!  I was preparing an email to the winner when Preeti's call came in.  A few days later this box arrived:

It contained a note and this pieced backing...

Along with this amazing Positivity quilt top:

Light to dark or dark to light, this thing was gorgeous and I loaded it up right away:

I took some time to decide on the thread, but quilting with a selection of threads to coordinate with Astrid's gradated background...

Afforded me the opportunity to earn some bonus points for using up some random bobbins leftover from other projects!!  :o))

With those selections made, it still took me a week to begin the quilting.  A prime example of w-o-r-k getting in the way of my quilting.  Here are the first stitches:

Within a few days, the quilting was complete:

Then came the task of choosing binding fabric:

Trimming the quilt that evening would have to wait.  There are MORE issues in the studio - my lovely new BRIGHT lights are OUT!!  Unfortunately, my in-house handyman was away at a conference!!!  :o((

The next afternoon, I trimmed up the quilt and pared down the binding selections before dinner...

And took a quilt photo to share another look at the colors, too:

Here is the prepared binding:

The next morning, I celebrated my day off by attaching the binding:

This is the porch swing photo of the Positivity Prize completed:

A spin through the washer and a tumble in the dryer and the quilt was ready for mailing....

Before the week was out, I wrote a note to the newly appointed recipient of donations for Mercyful Quilts...

... Sealed the addressed envelope in the bag protecting the quilt...

And went straight to the Post Office to mail it off:

Whew!  Mission accomplished.  Thank you SEW much for trusting me with your Positivity QAL project, Astrid.  My apologies (again) for the (massive) delay!

Like I mentioned earlier...

The 2022 Positivity QAL is coming soon!! May 29 - September 4, 2022.

Preeti will be sharing another free tutorial this year. No registration is required.  She is offering prizes, again, too!  Follow the link below for details.

More information about Mercyful Quilts can be found in yesterday's post by Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts.  Are YOU in???  I'm hoping to complete my contribution in a more timely manner this time around (now that my new studio is fully functional.)

Until next time...
Plus LOVE for the WIN!!!

Mail Call Monday (on a Tuesday) - PQ Winner & (Egyptian) Eye LOVE

Welcome to another edition of Mail Call Monday!!  Yes, it's Tuesday.  I have NO IDEA where Monday went!  There's no excuse for missing the post (again), but look what I got...

An email from Kim...

@ Project QUILTING, regarding the winners from PQ13.4 (two episodes ago).  The final challenge is going on now if YOU want a chance to get in on the prize action for this season.

Here's what she had to say...

Congratulations! I'm thrilled to let you know that out of the 190 entries you were chosen to win the EZ-Print Lite Heat n Bond Sheets & Heat N Bond Extra Firm Fusible Interfacing from ThermoWeb.

You can see the post here if you're interested - https://kimlapacek.com/2022/02/winners.html

Please send me your address so I can get your prize in the mail to you.

Thank you for joining in the PQ fun and supporting my challenge.
~Kim Lapacek

My response:

Thanks SEW much, Kim!!

Sorry it's taken this long to get around to posting...

Here's the package that arrived:

My prize package is from Thermoweb:

Kim also included her business card and a fun sticker:

Thanks, Kim! and thank you to ThermoWeb for sponsoring Project QUILTING!  The EZ-Print Lite Heat n Bond Sheets & Heat N Bond Extra Firm Fusible Interfacing is not something I've used before.  I look forward to trying both of these products on future project.

A few days later...

I got the following package from my friend Kathy @ Kathy's Quilting Blog:

She was working on her Gobble, Gobble quilt when I sent her the following email:

While you have Egyptian Eye on the frame, could I get you to take a piece of wax paper and a sharpie and trace the design for me? It looks like it might be easy enough to use as a panto. What do you say, Kathy?

Thanks in advance for considering it? I would really appreciate it and could either reimburse you for the postage or make something for you in exchange.
Your choice...
Joy

Kathy is SEW sweet that she refused to charge me for the postage.  Instead of tracing the design, which would have worked perfectly for me, she decided that it would be easier if she copied the Circlelord template board.

Here is the Egyptian Eye template board:

I wanted to buy this template board, but didn't feel comfortable spending the money at the time that I first became aware of it.  Unfortunately, the owner retired and his template boards are no longer available.  I didn't find out until I was (finally) ready to make my purchase that I was too late!  The business was already closed.  :o((

Kathy has since finished her Stay Centered quilt with the same design and as a bonus, she included copies of this loopy design, as well:

It should be a fun art project when I get around to lining up the "panto" pieces.  Thank you again, Kathy!  I haven't forgotten your gift.

Until next time...
What's in YOUR mail???

Wonderful Wednesday - Mail Call Edition - Baggie Challenge Conclusion

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday!!  I got a package in Monday's mail so technically this should be a Mail Call Monday post.  Alas, the SAHRR is eating up all of the posting space with Mini Monday news.  No room left for the mail.

What's this about, Joyful???

You might recall that I participated in something called the Baggie Challenge hosted by Janet @ Rogue Quilter.  Read about that HERE.  My name was drawn for one of three small prizes.

Here was my response:

Another lovely mini to add to your collection, Janet. Thanks for hosting the Baggie Challenge and congratulations to Sandy! Excited to find that I will be one of the lucky ones to receive a small surprise package. Yay!!

Well...

This was her idea of a SMALL gift:

I was very sweet and shared part of this "little" haul with DS2:

This lovely card was included...

And here's what Janet had to say:

Oh, yes.  There was fabric...

The charm pack is darling:

And Janet's batiks are gorgeous:

You already saw the chocolate.  Also included were these lovely handmade soaps:

I'm highly scent sensitive, but these smell fantastic!!

Like I said...

If this was a SMALL gift, I wonder what the REAL winner get??  (Kidding - She got to choose one of Janet's mini quilts!)  What a wonderful surprise package.  Thank you, Janet!!  I love it ALL!!!

Until next time...
What a SWEET treat!!!
