Spring 2016 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The List

Sign-ups for the Spring 2016 UFO Club are now CLOSED. Any interested quilters with 5 (or more) UFOs were required to sign up by Midnight (EST) on April 7, 2016. All qualifying UFOs must have been completed and posted to this discussion thread by Midnight (EST) on June 30, 2016.

NOTE 1:  I signed up, but I'm a little late posting my list.  Sorry!!  Don't worry, though, not much has changed from the Winter 2016 UFO Club... I finished NOTHING!!!  :o((

NOTE 2:  This post is also my entry for the Q2 Finish Along 2016.  Hopefully, they will accept this two-fer.

Here is my TOP TEN (Plus TWO) list for this quarter:

2 "C" Quilts:

1. Calico Ric Rac

This top has proven a challenge.  Needs borders... but WHAT???

2. Circle of Friends

I've got a plan for the borders... just have to execute the plan.

3 Mystery Quilts:

3. The Margaret Mystery

I've got to make the pieced borders.

4. The Tiffany Mystery

This project has been sitting in a basket on the bookcase shelf for MORE THAN 10 YEARS!!

5. The Bonnie (Hunter) Mystery - GIMQ 2014

~ 48" x 63"

3 Swap Quilts:

6. Snow Star Swap

This projects has been sitting on a shelf in the closet for 9 YEARS!

7. Ravelry Red Swap

Swapped AT LEAST 5 years ago... and STILL not a quilt top!  :o((

8. Art Bee Slice Swap (which is a quilt top waiting for applique)

Blocks were swapped at the December 2014 meeting, but these stragglers were traded in January 2015. The deadline passed and I have commissions this quarter. I still have hopes of finishing it... SOON!!!

2 Other Quilts:

9. Where's Jackson?

At home
How many years CAN a dog sit on a sewing table?  Only time will tell...

10. QE2 Goodbye Quilt

2015 WAS the year to complete this quilt... I've been in NC 16 years and it STILL didn't happen!

I plan to focus on the following quilts:

Sophie's T-Quilt - A commission quilt due by May 2016.  Most of the blocks are done, I just need to finish a few more and sew the top together.  (Shown on top of photo below.)

Owen's T-Quilt - A commission quilt due by May 2016.  Shown at the bottom of the photo above, this quilt is now completed with the exception of the binding.

Twelve projects round out the list for the quarter.  Realistically, I don't know how many (if ANY) of these I will be able to finish.  The TWO commission quilts will be my focus.  The problem???  I can only cut (or press) for VERY short periods of time due to a rotator cuff injury.  :o((

Oh, wait!  I forgot about my...

Bluff Quilt, which has grown into a quilt top:

Christmas Quilt (which has been waiting for YEARS to be added to the list!)

Blue/Green quilt that I promised my friend's son:

AND...

Dr. Pete's Wedding Quilt, which is a quilt top after last session's progress:

Along with my Bonnie Hunter 2015 Winter Mystery, Allietare, which is now a set of blocks:

Along with 2 commissions taken in March... (The only NEW items on the list!)

The Tennis T-Quilt...

And... "UNC the 2nd"... a T-Quilt:

That makes a total of 19 from which to choose during the Spring 2016 (Ravelry) UFO Club.  The last 2 quilts have August deadlines. Wish me luck (because I'm gonna need it!!)

I'm going to try to Link Up with The 2016 Q2 Finish Along.  Because, PRIZES = extra incentive to get projects DONE!!!  Hopefully, this post will be sufficient.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 15

Welcome to Week 15 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Another month began and a new Color of the Month is in play.  During the month of April, we will be culling ORANGE scraps from every bag and bin.  Here are the meager supplies with which I will work:

I think you are going to be surprised by what comes out of that little fabric basket...

On SUNDAY, I started off by transforming some of those ORANGE scraps into a couple of Donation Blocks, strip by strip:

Since I was already sewing strips, I sewed up ONE String Block in ORANGE:

Color me excited!!!  I get to share some news.  I completed the top of Dr. Pete's Wedding Quilt yesterday afternoon (just after Needleb went home from a productive afternoon of sewing.) Now, I have to decide on border treatments:

Any suggestions for borders would be appreciated!!

I've cut the binding for O's T-quilt:

Too bad that I can't recall how to attach the ends together in order to apply it!!!  Ugh!!  A mind is a terrible thing to lose (especially when you're ONLY 50!!!)

Music on MONDAY... CRHS Jazz... The ONLY reason I wake up so early:

Griffin Ross

On TUESDAY morning, Knit Group met and I tried to go back to my "old standby" project.  I took a little break from my Traveling Scarf, but now that I am happy to return to it, I couldn't FIND it!!

So, I finished up a couple of hand knit cowls...

One from four MONTHS ago:

And one from four YEARS ago:

WHY do we procrastinate on tasks that could be finished in 30 minutes or less?!?!?

WEDNESDAY was SUPPOSED to be a stay-at-home day, but quilting had to wait until I got home from DS2's tour of UNC - Chapel Hill.  Good news!!  The tour went better than expected.  :o))

THEN, I played in my ORANGE scraps for a while and finished these Springy String Blocks for Covered In Love.

They went from THIS:

To THIS:

With a little leftover:

But... I am angle-challenged so those leftovers MAY have looked something like kites before I took them apart and put them back together again:

OOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On THURSDAY, my schedule went a little crazy!  Up at the crack of dawn to take the girls to school, spent the afternoon with an old friend, and got home late from Face to Face teacher conferences at DS2's school (while he stayed home to get ready for karate.)  Whew!!  What a day! Here's what a few minutes in the studio before bed produced... an ORANGE Maverick Star with a touch of brown AND black is ready and waiting to be sewn:

FRIDAY afternoon found me deconstructing T-shirts for my next TWO quilts:

The Tennis T-Quilt...(actually started taking these apart at Quilt Bee yesterday.)

And... "UNC the 2nd"... a T-Quilt:

Between the sets of shirts, I did some ORANGE sewing and made ONE Slab Block in ORANGE with a bit of black:

On SATURDAY morning, I happily joined Angela's LINK PARTY at the So Scrappy Blog.  An extensive tour of the links is the highlight of my weekend.  Such wonderful projects are shared!!

Before linking up, I spent a little time sewing after breakfast and completed ONE Tiny Nine:

And ONE Maverick Star in ORANGE with accents of brown AND black...

... Before leaving to retrieve DS1 from college to attend DS2's Black Belt Test in karate:

The photo above shows DS2 with his black belt and certificate (and a lovely shot of my finger.)  The owner of the dojo said that his was the finest test he has seen in a LONG time!!  What a wonderful culmination of 9 years of training, just before the school closes.  Way to go, DS2!!!

Until next time...

Mail Call Monday - The (Quilty) Adoption...

Welcome to another edition of Mail Call Monday!!

(This post was delayed due to my work schedule.  Sorry!)

When Cynthia at Quilting is more fun than Housework offered a Quilty Orphan Adoption, I thought it would be a good time to search the projects and stash to see if there were things that I could offer. You see, it fit right in with my current decluttering efforts around our home.  Win-win!!

It turned out that there were several items that I was willing to list.  I gathered them up, composed a blog post, and linked up with Cynthia's event.  I felt very proud of myself...

Until...

I felt it necessary to visit the other participating bloggers adoption offerings!!

Well, you KNOW what happened, don't you???

I placed some bids.

The GOOD news is...

Not very many and of the bids placed, only TWO new items came to live with me!!

I won a BEAUTIFUL Baltimore Album block from Mary Huey who blogs at Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals that I intend to incorporate into my niece's wedding quilt:

I also won a pattern, intended for my friend Jean.  It turns out that Jean found templates, so I have a THIS new-to-me pattern from Summer who blogs at The Easy Quilter:

Second Chance Orphan Adoption:  (Drawing now CLOSED!!)

If anyone is interested in THIS Thimbleberries packet, please let me know:

It's filled with everything from scraps to FQs and it's yours for the cost of postage!!  (Which should be $6.80 for Priority service within the US.) The bundle was popular with my bidders and I attempted to contact my winner (via email and in this post), but my winner didn't respond back.

After a week, I contacted a NEW winner, but haven't heard back from her either.  :o((

SEW...

Now is YOUR chance!!  Please make sure to leave the BEST email address to contact you.

I will draw again on Monday, April 11, 2016.

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 14

Welcome to Week 14 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was a SLOW week for sewing.  If you can suffer through the boring parts, the MAY be a little bit of fun stuff at the end.

SUNDAY was a travel day.  DH, DS1, and I went to visit the in-laws.  Hoppy Bunny Day!!!

On MONDAY, my little friends and I went to Northgate Mall to ride the carousel:

Make memories with a ride on the Island Carousel
Photo from mall website.

TUESDAY, my little friends and I went to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham.  HERE is the path into the (new-to-me) Hideaway Woods little kids' section:

Pebble quilting, anyone???

And later, I met some friends at the Hillsborough Library for our monthly evening Quilt Bee meeting and trimmed up O's T-Quilt:

No good picture, but Deborah took a good one later in the week, so it's what you see above.

On WEDNESDAY, Linda and I met at Ella's for a Sew Day.  They try to have one each time Linda is "tracked out" from school.  This time, I was able to join them for most of the day.  I cut the squares to create the setting triangles for Dr. Pete's Wedding Quilt.  Imagine them in the photo below:

And... I also accomplished a fair amount of pressing and cutting for my Barn Dance QAL:

After spending the bulk of the day working on quilt stuff, I went to get my hair cut!!

THURSDAY morning was CRAZY!!  I had to take the girls to school and get back in time to greet my friends.  Oops!  I forgot to put on the coffee!!!  Quilt Group REQUIRES it... and a snack to go with it.  Today's offering was Cinnamon Muffins.  YUM!!!

In the spirit of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, a fond farewell to PURPLE greeted my guests:

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************

This page break is brought to you by the color PURPLE!!!  Yes, you guessed it.  The time has come for another Month in Review...

ONE (1) Maverick Star Block:

THREE (3) Slab Blocks:

Or... would that be TWO (2) Rainbow Crumb Blocks and ONE (1) Slab Block?!?!  I can't recall.

ONE (1) String Block:

ONE (1) Tiny Nine:

For a total of SIX (6) blocks made during PURPLE month with some yellow accents thrown in for good measure:

With that reporting complete, I take you back to THURSDAY and the rest of my week.

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Where were we???

Oh!!  The quilters were coming and THURSDAY progressed.

But first...

Austerity Quilters, I am NOT responsible for friends who bring scrappy hostess gifts!!  (Thanks, Joanna!!)  These will be added to the collection and put to good use:

For those of you who are waiting to hear about DS2's college options, this afternoon he found out that he got accepted to UNC Chapel Hill.  Only 29% of applicants do!!!

And later...  Just when I thought Angela had fallen into a black hole at school...

She posted the April Color Announcement:

Monarch

In other words:

With a hint of...

or an accent of...

On FRIDAY, I headed off to Knit Group at Reed's today.  We made it back to Friday because of my schedule for the week.  I finished my friend Cindy's Boneyard shawl:

After lunch, I prepared my hands for some ORANGE sewing:

I can tell you, as I type this, the nails on my LEFT hand are natural colored, but FOUR of the nails on my RIGHT hand are ORANGE!!  It's called MOOD polish and it changes color with the temperature. That's why I got the little design on one finger of each hand... so there would ALWAYS be a bit of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month showing through.  :o))

SATURDAY is the day that I join the LINK PARTY at the Sew Scrappy Blog.  I've got some time before Needleb arrives for Art Bee... Follow me over to see what the other RSC Quilters have been working on this week.  It's BOUND to be GOOD!!!

Until next time...
Get Scrappy!!!
