Wonderful Wednesday - Nature Baby - A UFO Club Finish

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday!!  Today I'm here to share another recent quilt finish.  Another UFO to be marked off my list.  It's been in process for more months than I would care to admit.

The top...

Was shared HERE on the blog a year ago.  Can you believe it?!  As happens from time to time, the project sat.  It waiting for quilting inspiration, for our house move, for the longarm to be serviced, and for the new studio to become fully functional.

For the quilting...

I search the internet looking for inspiration.  Back in October, I found it!  I was inspired by the work of students in a Jenny K. Lyon 3-day quilting class.  The project worked its way to the top of the priority list.  With my great-nephew's first birthday approaching, the longarm ready for free motion, and an idea about how I wanted to quilt the quilt, it was loaded on the frame:

I didn't get very far before hitting a snag when my hopping foot caught the edge of a 3-D Flying Goose.  Never fear!  A little bit of surgical stitch removal had me off and running again:

I quilted in "wind" in the sky:

Trees on the mountainside:

Tree trunks on the lakeshore:

Ripples on the lake...

... And ran out of bobbin with only the bottom borders to quilt:

A short while later, the quilting was done:

Only a couple of thread tails to bury once the quilt came off the rails:

The finishing...

There looked to be just enough of the neutral Grunge to do the binding:

Once that was prepared, I began stitching it on:

When I was almost done with that, it became clear that I had LOST at a game of Bobbin Chicken that I hadn't realized I was playing:

That's OK...

Because I was the WINNER of the game of Binding Chicken by a mere one-half inch:

With that connected and the last bit sew on, I flipped the quilt over and started sewing the binding down on the front by machine:

This is the completed quilt, draped over our front porch swing:

Here's hoping that "Baby" E will enjoy his "Aunt Joy Quilt."  Each of his first cousins have one of their own, so I couldn't leave him out (even though his parents aren't "into" quilts.)

SUNDAY - Sew Some Love Sunday

WEDNESDAY - Wonderful Wednesday was the day I released my Tidy-Up Tuesday post.  Technical difficulties, don't you know?

It was a work day today, but I managed to fit in a game of Quordle.  Not only did I play, but I actually won for the first time ever:

This afternoon, I was pleased to be able to Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - Today was the day that I was faced with a BLANK PAGE for this post.  What?!  How did it get to be Thursday without my entering even a single photo or comment?  YIKES!!!  I spent most of the day working on this quilt:

During a break, I worked on this Peony mixed-media piece for the ICAD Challenge.  Tammy @ Daisy Yellow gives us a choice of 4 x 6" cards or smaller, but I didn't want to have 61 index cards floating around the studio, so I decided to draw in the "cards" that I would need.  I will either work right in the "journal" or work on a separate sheet of paper (Thanks for that idea, Britt!) and paste it in:

I'm having a lot of fun art-ing!  :o))

FRIDAY - Weekly Knit Group met today, but I've got that quilt on the longarm that I need to finish, as there's another one waiting.  A storm blew in last night and that meant I had to unplug the longarm.  Can't quilt?  It was time to paint.  The photo below shows what I did with the "under paper" and leftover paint:

Tidy-Up Tuesday - The SIL T-Quilt - A UFO Club Finish

 

Welcome to another edition of Tidy-Up Tuesday that didn't post until Wonderful Wednesday!!  This one is special.  It tells the tale of a UFO Club finish, which is always a happy day for me.

The story begins...

... At the end of last summer and in the middle of our move!!!

Time passed...

The move went on forever, the studio took longer than I ever expected to be set up and functional.  Then once then once it was set up, the machine wasn't working properly.

Ugh!!!  Thank goodness for flexible deadlines!

Here's what the "blocks" looked like on the "design bed" at the beginning of the month:

One rather plain block - shown near the bottom left in the photo above - was a candidate for a bit of embellishment...

So, it got a few sleeve or pocket emblems appliqued on:

Then...

It was assembly time:

Once it was a completed quilt top...

.. I waited for the arrival of this fabulously textural backing fabric...

... Before loading it on the frame and quilting it right up:

Before I knew it, the quilting was done...

... Except for the LAST TWO BLOCKS!!  Would you believe I ran out of bobbin thread?  It's true.  The 70" x 90" quilt has more than one pre-wound bobbin in it:

I do what I call semi-custom quilting on T-Quilts.  A large-ish meander in the "background" with outlines of the focal points of the shirt designs:

Then came the miles of binding...

Along with thread color selection:

After that, I trimmed up the quilt to ready it for the next step:

And started in on applying the binding, which was quickly followed by stitching it down:

Nothing like the LAST MINUTE to get something done:

As the plot thickened...

Thanks go out to my trusty assistant DS2, who once again held up the quilt so that I could get a full photo of the quilt before delivery:

Not SEW fast, Joyful!!!

The quilt was done, but I didn't get a chance to add the recipient's name, as I had planned.  What's a quilter to do?  Think fast and come up with a new plan:
