September 2025 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the SEPTEMBER 2025 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here.  (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...

In 2025, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge.  Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs.  Basically, ANY quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

This month's color was:

Light/Bright BLUE and/or Light/Bright GREEN

The theme for September was:

RADIO and/or TELEVISION

What project did you choose, Joyful???

I went with a blend of piecework "test patterns"...

And artwork with drawings using my favorite fine point marker...

This is the layout I came up with:

A scrap of batting and an offcut of some backing was soon layered...

Once that was done, I did some minimal quilting through the center in each direction and outlined the televisions, then squared up the little quilt:

I went thru several fabric choices before selecting this one for the binding:

Here is my completed September 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge project...

I'm guessing that Angela will probably announce the Color of the Month for October on her Rainbow Scrap Challenge post tomorrow.  I'll post an update as soon as I find out what she decided on.

October's theme is:

DENIM

NOTE:  I love denim!  I know it might seems like a strange prompt, but this year has been about stretching our creativity.  I'm looking forward to seeing how you will interpret this theme!  Will it be something made from denim, using the color of denim, or a representation of a denim object or item?  Remember, while I look forward to seeing what you might make using the month's prompt, you are NOT required to use the suggestion I've provided!!  The main goal is using up some of your scraps.  I have to say, I'm unsure of how I might interpret our September challenge!

I got confused about the date of Prompt Deck playground and missed today's Zoom, but I was able to Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

TUESDAY - Day Off 

Today, I attended Get Messy's Open Studio with Barb.  Britt and I were the first to sign on:

After running some errands, I treated myself to a Pomegranate Plunge from Tropical Smoothie Cafe:

SUNDAY - Weekly Morning Art Zoom found me working on the WORDS prompt from Catalysts & Curiosities at the end of August...

Once that was done, I switched to working on another page in my new Collage Scraps Altered Book journal.  I'm having fun with these pages:

After lunch, Knittingsuek and I met for our Weekly Zoom call...

I did some work around the house and then enjoyed my Weekly Zoom Call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

TUESDAY - Day Off

First came some early morning errands which were followed by a bit of scrap sewing.  Mission accomplished!  The RSC Color(s) of the Month were well represented:

THURSDAY - Day Off

I intended to attend my Weekly Morning Quilt Group, but my stomach had other ideas.  I was feeling better after lunch and was pleased to attend this week's Curiosity Collective instructor was @thisistruleetraci whose lesson was called Based on a TRUE Story.  Here's the page I created using acrylic paint and a page from a vintage music textbook:

FRIDAY - Work/Doctor Day

There may be Knit Group today, but not for me.  The foggy morning mirrored my feelings about having to miss seeing my friends to order to work my scheduled shift.  

In neighborhood news...

You'll have to double click on the photo to get an idea of what was going on in the cul-de-sac this morning.  There was a huge traffic jam and the final piece of the puzzle was still rumbling down the street when this photo was taken!  If you look closely, you will see that we are getting more new neighbors, someone is getting a Lowe's delivery, there are a number of construction workers parked along the street, AND it's garbage day.  The sanitation truck will join the fray momentarily:

Instead of Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra, I was off to an appoint for some medical testing.  I've seen DS2 take a PFT (pulmonary function test) on two occasions, but now it's my turn.  This is where the test is administered...

I'm not confident that this will end well, but hopefully it will lead to help for this seemingly never-ending cough of mine.  A quick photo op when the tech stepped out for the medicine to begin working for the second part of the test:

After determining there wasn't enough time to return to work, I stopped by the grocery store for a few items and when dinner was done, I headed up to the studio for my Weekly Evening Art Zoom.  Britt and I arrived first...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 36

Welcome to Week 36 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week, we've got a new color for the RSC Quilters to concentrate their scrap sewing efforts.  Angela announced Pastel BLUE and/or Pastel GREEN.  Will I make any headway???

MONDAY - Holiday

TUESDAY - Work

During yesterday's Zoom call, LeeAnna and I sorted through our Light (pastel?) BLUE yesterday afternoon.  I may have come up with enough 2.5" x 8.5" rectangles to make a good jumping of point for a lap quilt.  Now, I'll need to find some GREEN to stretch them into a quilt top:

WEDNESDAY - Wonderful Wednesday

Work

This happened yesterday afternoon while transferring console stuff from my old car...

I spilled a bag of coins on the passenger side of my new car.  It wouldn't have been a problem, but the passenger seat was pushed all the way back and, while most ended up beneath the seat, a single coin landed in the track.  I wasn't able to remove it so... That turned out to be a job for Mr. Basket today.

THURSDAY - Day Off

Weekly Morning Quilt Group.  I attended, but did I remember to get a group photo???  No, but I did take a side view of my new-to-me car:

Knit Group?  Nope!  Our hostess is recovering from surgery so we knit separately today:

Errands included a stop at Barnes and Noble for a glance through the magazines.  This one came home with me, as I'd seen it on IG and brought it home in favor of the latest issue from Art Journaling mag:

With errands done and a quick lunch out of the way, I headed up to the studio for Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra.  We had some wonderful discussions and I was led back to the idea of starting a Collage Scraps journal inspired by a number of sources.  Apparently, I had already chosen a book for that purpose and later created the first page:

Weekly Evening Art Zoom found me thinking about the new Catalysts & Curiosities prompts from Meg urging us to use colors from past work in a new way.  Total abstract doesn't come naturally to me, but this was the result - in poor evening lighting:

Wonderful Wednesday - Summer 2025 (Ravelry) UFO Club - Finish #3

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday here at The Joyful Quilter!!  As mentioned in Saturday's RSC post, here is my latest UFO Club finish from my Summer 2025 UFO Club list.  I added the final stitches last Thursday afternoon.

When I completed my TABLE SCRAPS Challenge quilt early, wondered if I might be able to sneak in some more sewing for AQUA month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I immediately thought of another of the projects pieced during a not-so-recent quilt retreat:

10. QFK JRR on Steroids (2023)

I had hoped to mark this off my list last year...

However, that didn't happen.  It was the perfect project for last week since it was already sitting out and waiting for some attention!  That made things easier, as all I had to do was locate enough scrap batting to layer the quilt and seam the backing provided in the kit from my local quilt guild:

The photo below shows me dropping in the last few basting pins before heading to the machine for some Stitch-in-the-Ditch quilting:

There was enough of the coordinating backing fabric to do the binding:

Along with a photo taken during last Thursday's Monthly Evening Quilt Bee meeting as part of my Show and Tell:

I can't describe how happy I am to have finally prepared this quilt for donation.  The kit has been waiting for attention for a number of years.  I'm pretty sure that it moved with me from our previous home.  Color me somewhat embarrassed, but it's the nature of projects in my studio.  As Quilt Diva Julie would say, "Follow the Squirrel" which means work on the project that excites you in the moment (until a deadline crops up.)
