Welcome to the May 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!! Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.
I'm a scrap quilter who is really enjoying this challenge. For several years, I hosted individual challenges in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy. Last year, I went global when I offered the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge. There were participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world. It's been SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I changed the "rules" and am pleased to offer the...

This year, baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are qualifying projects. Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs we focused on during the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge. This year, basically, ANY small quilted item qualifies. The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)
Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing. While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see May's focus. It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.
May's theme was...
Here's what I did with that...
The Color of the Month was Sage/Forest GREEN so I brought out my scrap basket to see what might inspire me and selected some scraps and cut a few squares:
What happened next was a really fun experiment...
Preeti, I shrunk the (Masala) Box:
Some simple straight(ish) line quilting for the imperfect "squares" that are absolutely NO REFECTION on Preeti's pattern! I was in an improv sort of mood:
A while later, the binding was cut:
Between commission tasks, I put the binding on:
Once the commission was done, I finished this off, too:
What's next, Joyful???
June will be arriving before we know it. Can YOU guess what the Color of the Month might be? Angela will let us know soon enough, but...
June's theme is:
NOTE: Angela announced Bright and/or Dark BLUE for June. (I will update on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)
It's time for YOU to link up your GREEN and/or Square-ular project in the LINK PARTY below. All entries MUST be submitted by Tuesday, May 31st @ 11:59PM (EDT).
Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

Oh, look at that! Mini Masala Boxes - fun idea, Joy! What size did you shrink everything to? I love them in the dark greens, and pretty backing fabric, too. My project is done - just need a few more photos and to write up a post.ReplyDelete
That's beautiful! Love those small masala boxes. What size did your mini turn out to be?ReplyDelete
Nice job on shrinking that! I completely changed my entry yesterday when I went digging in scraps. Just need to quilt and bind it later today.ReplyDelete
