Welcome to another edition of Mini Monday!! Today I'm here to share my latest mini quilt. It was design with RED month in mind for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
I made a mention in last week's ScrapHappy Saturday post about the funny story that goes along with this project. If you read the comments, the cat was let out of the bag. If not, here's what one reader had to say...
I laughed out loud when I saw your wonky X blocks, inspired by ME! When mine were a mistake, but meant to be like your wonky Pluses! We are hilarious! I still need to get back to my mini Magic Stars, inspired by YOU! Love seeing your busy week. :)
That reader was Diann, who was inspired by the Modern Plus Mini made for Libby in my 10th Blogiversary Giveaway:
She started them back in July, but her small Plus blocks somehow morphed into X's...
... And Diann decided to pair them with O's (thanks to a suggestion from LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color. Recently, I was inspired by her X's and O's mini. Her progress is found HERE.
Since it's RED month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I reached for my scrappy bits of that color:
I quickly paired those with a scrap of white on white:
Sewing...
... And trimming ensued:
After a bit more sewing, the following could be found on my design floor:
However...
That didn't turn out to be the case:
Ultimately...
It was layered, with an off-cut of batting (from my trimming up my niece's baby quilt), of course:
Eventually, I got around to quilting the little quilt:
With a bit of trimming (shown above) and some (scrap) binding...
... My Modern X Mini was complete:
Thank you, Diann!! Your "mistake" made way for my fun finish. Although, I think it's new name might be String of Kisses or Sealed with a Kiss. Which name would YOU choose?
Approximately 8" x 8" square.

Edited to add the following find (2/9/21) in my computer files:
A mini, from Leanne @ She Can Quilt, with a very similar vibe. Her little quilt called Landmarks 2 was finished back in 2014. I don't even recall seeing it before, but my mind seemed to channel her design process with my Modern X Mini. Funny how that works!
That is so fun, Joy - love it! I really think red is my favorite color, so your red X's and binding and quilting are just perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love this little quilt. I actually made my first pluss quilt last week. It was fun, and I have to do more of that. Your quilt is so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWay to go on those reds!
ReplyDeleteHaha! You had me chuckling! Cute little finish! Make sure and link it up to the Show Me Something Mini link-up this month: https://www.sarahgoerquilts.com/2020/09/06/show-me-something-mini-linkup/
ReplyDeleteThe lines of red quilting are inspired!! I'm pretty sure most new designs are borne of mistakes :)
ReplyDeleteNice job
ReplyDeleteI'm doing some catch-up of online reading and just came across this. I love your little mini!
