I've followed Project QUILTING in the past, but only as a casual observer.
Until...
Sassy @ Farm Quilter sent me down a rabbit hole. She posted her project for PQ 11.1 on one of the weekly link-ups that I follow and invited her readers to participate in the Challenge.
That invitation and several emails (along with an unrelated phone call) later...
Insert a chorus of angels singing...
Inspiration struck!!!
I gathered my fabrics (scraps from T-Quilts) one night:
The next night I prepared my design:
The following evening I got the top together and quilted the piece:
While doing the trimming/squaring up, the piece decided that it wanted to be a wall hanging instead of a pillow:
(This MIGHT have had something to do with the fact that I was running out of time and didn't have an appropriately sized pillow to use to stuff a pillow cover.)

Anyway...
When I added the binding, I very nearly FORGOT to add my label and hanging triangles for the corners. Fortunately, just as I was starting to turn the first top corner, I remembered!
I give you 100% COTTON, made to test a color scheme for my niece's baby-to-be:
Here's hoping she likes the addition of black and white to go with her color choice for the baby's (future) quilt:
"We've heard that babies like yellow."
There you have it!! Process, product, and the REAL reason for accepting this Challenge. I hope you like it. She DID!! (When she finally saw it the next day.) They liked it so much that they are planning to hang it over the crib!! Yay!! Challenge success.
Follow THIS LINK to the Season 11 overview. Check back on the Challenge release days (or sign-up to be notified automatically) and there may be one that YOU just can't resist.
It is a SHORT turnaround time!
Depending on the size and complexity of your project, that doesn't HAVE to be insurmountable. With a little creativity and a few evenings, you really CAN do this! My project was begun with only FIVE DAYS until the deadline.

Sharing with Cynthia for Oh Scrap!
Until next time...
Challenge accepted!!!
Remember: If I can do this, YOU can do it, too!
(Plus, there's a spot to post your completed Project QUILTING inspired projects AFTER the deadline for any of the challenges.)
100% perfect. ;^)
ReplyDeleteVery cute and the yellow is pretty. I have also heard that babies love yellow.
ReplyDeleteOh, Joy!!!! Welcome to the rabbit hole...the stitchin is FINE!!! Thanks for playing along with me and I love your wall hanging! Babies can actually see bright, primary colors when they are first born (think of most of the pretty crayons in the big eight box from Crayola), so they are the best choice for colors for a baby. Look at me putting my Master's degree to good use!!
ReplyDeleteI vote that your niece loves the b/w/yellow combo! I'm off to check out this challenge thingie. You always know where all the cool quilty events are going on, Joy :)
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! Love that you did it to test a color combo and I'm so glad you joined in the PQ fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I hope you enjoy sewing along with PQ.
