Scrap Attack 2018 - The Year in Review

Scrap Attack 2018, A Year of Serious Scrap Busting

That was the title of my opening post when I expressed my intentions to play along with Sarah from Confessions of a Fabric AddictShe introduced the challenge at the bottom of THIS POST.  As soon as I read about it, I decided that I really needed to participate!  My goal list was included HERE.

While I didn't join in Sarah's link-ups, I did report my progress on the blog monthly.  That's fine for my regular followers, but I thought it might be fun to show my success for the year in a single post.  Be warned, there were a few FAILS, as well.

Are you ready?!

I marked through each entry as it was chosen (starting in the 2nd half of the year), but removed the marks to allow you to see what each goal entailed.  Each month the goals received a CHECK!! or a FAIL!! when I reported my results.  I've included the month that each job was pulled and photos of the completed tasks for the year.

HERE is my Scrap Attack list:

1. Choose a quilt to donate and mail to Covered in Love!  (Chosen, but not mailed.)

APRIL:

Updated, from Kat & Cat Quilts, completed:

Thank you to Kathy for completing this for Covered in Love!

2. Per Sarah, Work on a Double Wedding Ring (my antique)

Well, I didn't do that, but I earned BONUS POINTS for this special scrappy gift:

8. Sharon is working with the RSC, Work in the month's color.

MAY:

9. Paula picked cutting, Choose a Sizzix die and wind out!  (The machine was ready, but I couldn't find the die.  I did use scraps, though.)

OCTOBER:

10. Britt ordered, Organize/label scraps under the longarm.

DECEMBER:

FAIL!!!

11. Britt proposed, Make MORE scrappy yarn bowls.

JANUARY:

12. Britt indicated, Try making Dee Dee's Scrap Scarf!

SEPTEMBER:

FAIL!!!

I was too busy preparing for TWO retreats.  I did use scraps for these:

Thank you to those quilters who inspired my Scrap Attack goal list.  I appreciate the assistance.  I added a secondary list, in case I had extra time or enthusiasm in any given month:

FEBRUARY:

2. Sew up some String blocks like Mel.  (Oops! I misremembered  the goal.)

JUNE:

3. Make a "Fiona" Scrap Basket like Chantal.  FAIL-ISH!  (I make basket parts, just not the actual basket.)

However, I did use additional scraps to make this:

4. Piece batting scraps for a Donation Quilt like Anita SS.

NOVEMBER:

Updated photo of the completed project with said pieced batting:

5. Try making something with selvages like City Mouse. FAIL-ISH!! (Sewn, but not completed during the month.)

MARCH:

7. Pull a scrap bag and start trimming like Paula!

JULY:

Again, THIS is where you will find the links to those who inspired the listed items can be found in my original Scrap Attack post.

Thank you, Sarah, for hosting the Scrap Attack Challenge.  Overall, I would say that I did a GREAT job on attaining my goals.  I definitely worked my way through quite a lot of fabric bits!

Scrap Attack Tuesday - December Results

Welcome to the final edition of Scrap Attack Tuesday!!  (Obviously, NOT released on a Tuesday, but that would be NEXT YEAR.)  I had an extensive job list at the beginning of 2018.  I have worked through each of my goals for the year.  Now, I'm here to report in on my scrappy progress for the month.

December Accomplishments...

From my Scrap Attack list:

10. Britt ordered, Organize/label scraps under the longarm.

FAIL!!!

I never even attempted this one (and don't plan to do so.)  The thought of digging in the bin was/is just too overwhelming.  :o((

From the secondary list:

10. Cut Triangles like Chantal.

I don't recall what kind of triangles Chantal planned to cut, but I will use my Sizzix Triangle die to cut random scraps.

CHECK!!!

Even with a variety of time-sensitive projects on the go, I wasn't going to take a FAIL on this task!  How hard can it be to grab a stack of fabric?  How long could it take to wind out a few triangles?

With that attitude (and a few days remaining in the year), I loaded the machine...

... And cut this stack of triangles:

As a last ditch effort...  Mission accomplished.

Thanks to Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict for encouraging me to work through some of my fabric scraps.

Until next time...

Scrap Attack Tuesday - November Results/ December Job Pull

Welcome to another edition of Scrap Attack Tuesday!!  I'm here to report in on my scrappy progress over the last four weeks.  I also need to see what remains on the goal list.

November Accomplishments... Or NOT!!

From my Scrap Attack list:

7. Chantal is organizing, Label / inventory UFOs bins!

FAIL!!!

I never even ATTEMPTED to dig into the bins.  :o((

Bonus Points: I did work on some scrappy projects.  :o))

From the secondary list, in case I have extra time or enthusiasm:

4. Piece batting scraps for a Donation Quilt like Anita SS.

CHECK!!!

I pieced batting for the donation quilt that I turned in last month at Quilt Guild:

December Job Pull...

From my Scrap Attack list:

10. Britt ordered, Organize/label scraps under the longarm.

From the secondary list:

10. Cut Triangles like Chantal.

I don't recall what kind of triangles Chantal planned to cut, but I will use my Sizzix Triangle die to cut random scraps.

With various time-sensitive projects on the go, I'm not sure that I will be able to work on either of these tasks.  I'll be sure to check in at the end of the year to let you know what, if anything, I was able to accomplish.
Until next time...

Scrap Attack Tuesday - October Results/ November Job Pull

Welcome to another edition of Scrap Attack Tuesday!!  I'm here to relay the latest news in Scrap Land.  My goals for October didn't exactly align with the tasks that I needed to accomplish.  See for yourselves...

October Accomplishments (Or NOT!!!)

From my Scrap Attack list:

9. Paula picked cutting, Choose a Sizzix die and wind out!

Here is the machine, ready and waiting to be fed:

FAIL... ish!!!

The machine was ready, but I wasn't able to locate the die that I wanted to use.  I might not have looked very hard, but I did cut some scraps (by hand... er... rotary cutter) for these:

From the secondary list, in case I have extra time or enthusiasm:

3. Make a "Fiona" Scrap Basket like Chantal:

At first, I chose the dark GREEN bowl to comply with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month for October:

Then, I realized that I had a fair number of white/off-white homeless scraps...

... But, if you refer (once again) to the earlier photo, you will notice those are the very colors of the sample basket that was shown:

Instead, I believe that I might attempt a beige/tan basket and divide the contents of the lighter colored one.  Sound like a plan?
Here's hoping that I can manage to tackle (and contain) some of these scraps!!  If not, you'll be hearing about it NEXT month.

FAIL... ish!!!

I used some dark GREEN scraps in this pattern test:

The beige/tan scraps were sewn into pairs, in an effort to get a start on the Fiona basket that I had hoped to make:

SEW...

Scraps WERE used.  Perhaps, October wasn't as big a fail as I first thought.  What do YOU think???

November Job Pull...

From my Scrap Attack list:

7. Chantal is organizing, Label / inventory UFOs bins!

From the secondary list, in case I have extra time or enthusiasm:

4. Piece batting scraps for a Donation Quilt like Anita SS.

Sorry for the delay in releasing this post!  I was completely out of commission yesterday.  Fever.  Doctor.  Bed!

Walking pneumonia is nothing to sneeze at, but the antibiotic seems to be working.  Sew...

I'm upright on this bright beautiful Autumn Wednesday afternoon.  Yay!  (OK, enough of that.  I'm going back to bed!)

Until next time...

Scrap Attack Tuesday - September FAIL / October Job Pull

Welcome to another edition of Scrap Attack Tuesday!!  Let's combine the accomplishments and job pull this time, shall we? It is the second week of the month, after all.

First, I'm  here to confess that I accomplished very little of my goal for September.  Sorry, Sarah!  Some months, I just couldn't find the necessary oomph!

September Accomplishments...

From my Scrap Attack list:

12. Britt indicated, Try making Dee Dee's Scrap Scarf!

Here's what it should look like when complete, as seen on Ruth, modeling her version:

FAIL!!!

In my defense, I actually DID take the baggie of scraps with me on my Retreat.  Just didn't get around to working on that particular project.

From the secondary list, in case I have extra time or enthusiasm:

7. Pull a scrap bag and start trimming like Paula!

I chose the dark BLUE bag to comply with the RSC Color of the Month for September:

CHECK!!!

Well... Sort of...

Here is the bag of scraps sitting by my sewing machine, but check out that view beyond:

I cut a few meager scraps, but sat down with my cuppa' to enjoy the view out the windows of the sewing porch:

I tried to make a bit of progress on that scrap bag.
Really, I did!!

Who could resist sunsets like these?  Yeh, see?!?!  Right???  They kept dragging me away from my scraps, too:

October Job Pull is as follows...

From my Scrap Attack list:

9. Paula picked cutting, Choose a Sizzix die and wind out!

Here is the machine, ready and waiting to be fed:

From the secondary list, in case I have extra time or enthusiasm:

3. Make a "Fiona" Scrap Basket like Chantal:

At first, I chose the dark GREEN bowl to comply with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month for October:

Here's hoping that I can manage to tackle (and contain) some of these scraps!!  If not, you'll be hearing about it NEXT month.

Well, you'll be hearing from me one way or another.  :o))
