ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 35

Welcome to Week 35 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Are you wondering what the week was like in Joyful QuilterLand?  If, perhaps, ORANGE sewing involved?  I wondered about that, as well.

Read on to see how the days unfold...

SUNDAY - My weekly Zoom call with Knittingsuek...

... Was followed by an afternoon of art-ing. ORANGE fabric scraps were involved!  I decided on a lovely Kaffe scrap as a ruffle embellishment on a journal card for the RUFFLE prompt for today's 5 Minute Art Challenge.  The fabric coordinates perfectly with my Washi Tape Journal - right down to the surprise inclusion of the word FedEx in the scrap of painted paper that I layered with the fabric.  The journal was created with a FedEx envelope, as I couldn't find a manila folder to use:

Sorry!  I'm not sure which friend gets the credit for that lovely fabric scrap.

MONDAY - Monday meant work, along with Wordle...

And Quordle, which I very nearly lost today:

When I got home I headed up to the studio to work on today's 5 Minute Art Challenge.  The prompt?  Creepy.  As I really don't DO creepy, I had a particularly hard time with what to make for this one!

Until...

I remembered that I usually think of photo transfers on the gelli plate as being fairly creepy.  An old issue of Threads magazine offered the mannequins in the advertising section at the back.  Between layering two images on at one time, using black paint for the transfer, my color choice for the pull, and not waiting long enough for a clear image, I think I successfully depicted the theme:

Notice, if you will, the ORANGE paint "scraps".  That totally counts for the RSC, right?!

TUESDAY - It was an art-y day, but there was fabric and tread involved, so I'm calling this a paper quilt... In August's Color of the Month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, too:

WEDNESDAY - I got home just in time to Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

I outlined this month's ORANGE section of my Pas De Deux coloring sheet.  That's my RSC project (bare minimum) for this year.  August's goal accomplished on the very last day:

THURSDAY - Today, the RSC Quilters say goodbye to orange...

... and hello to Light BLUE!!  That's September's Color of the Month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

Work.  It was a slow day, so I had no trouble fitting in my puzzle time.  I started with Wordle for an easy win:

Quordle was next with a near miss, but I managed to pull off a win:

FRIDAY
 - Knit Group canceled today, but I did an episode of "Coffee and Collage" up in my studio.  As has been my tradition, I worked in my #flowersmagicchallenge journal.  I started off with one of the last blank pages and a paper napkin...

... And ended up with a lovely journal spread:

Please note the Light BLUE paint in honor of September's Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  (The direct link wasn't available at the time of this posting, but I will add it later.)

Until next time...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 43 - Jeannie's Crazy 'bout ORANGE

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!  I missed adding this yesterday.  Sorry, Jeannie!  Posting here on the blog and hoping it will still link to the party.

The following, from Ravelry's Quilters Knitting Group, was posted on 8/29/22 -

I was running out of the month to work on my August "Orange" challenge.  Had different ideas I wanted to try but decided to do some improv quilting.  I put all of my oranges into a bag, pulled a piece out & sewed.  I still need to quilt this.  This is what I have so far:

And on the 31st...

In the nick of time, I finished my August Table Scraps Challenge - Orange (embroidery was an option that I didn’t have time for).

Give Jeannie's ORANGE project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her crazy bright project.  I certainly did!  Thank you for sending these photos for the blog, Jeannie.  This project makes such good use of those small strips and awkward bits that SEW many of us (quilters) save.

That wraps up the ORANGE edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  Join us the LAST Friday of September for projects filled with Light BLUE and/or PUMPKINS.

Until then...
USE those (table) scraps!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 34

Welcome to Week 34 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was a mixed bag.  Was ORANGE sewing involved?  Stayed tuned, as the days unfold.

SUNDAY - The day began with my weekly Zoom call with Knittingsuek...

And continued with a bonus Zoom with LeeAnna:

Later, I colorized one of the book pages in my Flowers Magic journal and added a bit of collage:

MONDAY - Work...  For real, this time.  I managed to squeeze in a bit of game time:

Quordle, too!  Unfortunately, I deleted the photo that wasn't blurry:

TUESDAY - I spent the bulk of the day doing chores around the house.  On the art front, I watched a couple of videos from Cat Rains sharing her experiment with crayon rubbings.  I was inspired to go straight up to the studio to give it a try by substituting oil pastels for the Crayola crayons that were given away prior to our move:

WEDNESDAY - It was an art filled day.  After viewing a tutorial by Roben-Marie, the Tech Savvy Artist, I uploaded my very first Instagram reel sharing my completed abstract painting series.  Here's the ORANGE one from my class with Judy Woods Art:

Before my regular weekly Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color...

I worked on my 5-Minute Art Challenge.  This splattered gelli print was the result of yesterday's prompt:

THURSDAY - Work.  Again.

Wordle:

Quordle was a near win, but I messed up on my final puzzle:

Another art project was begun using this deconstructed mailer to create a small art journal:

My monthly Evening Quilt Group changed nights and moved indoors this month.  I forgot to take a group photo so here I am with my Show and Tell for this time:

FRIDAY - August 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge...
This was the BONUS project:

Knit Group this morning was down about half the members:

It turned into Coffee and Collage...

The music paper didn't stick in the middle so it turned into a surprise tuck spot:

Work soon followed.  You KNOW what that means, don't you???

Wordle and...

Quordle:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  I'm pleased to have something quilty to share.

Until next time...

August 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the August 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  I'm a scrap quilter who is really enjoying this challenge.  I'm SEW grateful that some of my blog friends decided to join me!  Thanks for stopping by to see what we have made this month.

For several years, I hosted individual challenges in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Last year, I went global when I offered the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  There were participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world.  It's been SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I changed the "rules" and am pleased to offer the...

Button credit to Susan @ Desert Sky Quilts, updated by me.

This year, baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs we focused on during the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  This year, basically, ANY small quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

I offer a prompt to help get participants' creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see July's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

August's theme was...

EMBROIDERY

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was ORANGE so I had a look at my overflowing scrap basket to see what I might find:

However...

There is (still) a stack of boxes in front of that portion of the Scrap Center, but there just happened to be a UFO on the end of the cutting table:

I promptly chose one of the bicycle backing scraps provided by my friend Maggie for the purpose of finishing this little project... LAST YEAR, but please don't judge me - I was a LITTLE busy:

Around the middle of the month, I decided that it was about time to cut out the "T" (for University of Tennessee - Knoxville) out to attach to the top:

A few days later, I selected threads to stitch the "T" down.  If you look closely, you can see a bit of embroidery floss waiting for the embroidery portion of the process.  That comes compliments of my good friend Britt.  Thanks, B!  Now, if I can just get from here to there:

With a scrap of batting in hand, I was ready to layer the pieces...

... For quilting...

But I'm going to HAVE to tackle that stack of boxes, if I want an ORANGE binding:

I present my August 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry:

WAIT!!

You probably want to see the completed mug rug...

The binding fabric was (thankfully) located in the 6"-strip drawer.  No (box) mountain climbing was required in the finishing of this project.  Whew!!

BONUS!!!

I finally dragged the bag of crushed walnut shells out of the back of my car:

Please note that I added French knots (shown above) and Cross stitches (shown below) to the pin cushion that was started last month:

This is the other side of the completed pin cushion:

Special thanks to Diane @ Stitch Studio for these fun (already pieced) little quilt blocks!

What's next, Joyful???

September will be arriving next week.  There are only a few more color that the Color of the Month could be!  Angela will let us know soon enough, but...

Since autumn is on the way September's theme is:

PUMPKIN(S)

NOTE:  Angela announced Light BLUE for September.  (I will updated the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it was announced.)

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your ORANGE and/or Embroidered project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, August 31st @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!
