ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 32

Welcome to Week 32 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week will be filled with reintegration into the real world.  Vacation is just a memory.  We're back to business as usual.  Well, that's the plan.

Here's what really happened...

SUNDAY - Travel Day

My true goodbye to PURPLE month begins today, but I couldn't resist a photo of this lovely iris print while turning in our rental car:

A grocery restock, a nap, but before those, there was a small bit of AQUA art journaling on the airplane to document our trip:

MONDAY - Day Off

I spent the morning resting and met with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color after lunch to resume our weekly Zoom calls:

TUESDAY - Day Off

Today's tasks included a deli stop and a trip to the donation center.  My closet is several items lighter now.

WEDNESDAY - Day Off

I had planned to do some AQUA scrap sewing, but Knittingsuek invited me to meet her new puppy.  Here we are with Penny the Cockapoo:

THURSDAY - Work

No photos to show, so I thought I'd share what I missed at last week's Monthly Evening Quilt Bee meeting.  I was happy to see (thanks to Maggie) that Stacy's project included a scrap of AQUA, but sadly there was no group photo available:

FRIDAY - Work

During my Weekly Evening Art Zoom, there was a great debate (in my head) about what I should work on.  I started small by completing another AQUA page in the tiny journal I took on vacation with me...

Next, I added a gel print to my large Roll Off journal...

Then, since I'm not quite done with ICAD, I made the following card, my interpretation of the MARQUEE prompt:

After the meeting, Britt and I remained for a short chat:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

No Zooming with Knittingsuek today because of our group's Sew Day.  Sorry!  No photos because I ended up having to miss the event.  :o((

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 31

Welcome to Week 31 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week, is trasition week.  RSC Quilters will put away their PURPLE scraps and reach for their AQUA ones, as Angela announced last Saturday.  However, there will be NO scrap sewing at The Joyful Quilter in the next 7 days.  (Sorry, not sorry!)  We will be away all week.

Here's what happened instead...

SUNDAY - Travel Day

MONDAY - Vacation

TUESDAY - Celebration Day!!

Vacation

WEDNESDAY - Wonderful Wednesday

Vacation

THURSDAY - Vacation

FRIDAY - Vacation

Yes, I'm still away, but it's AQUA month and this Quilted Scrap Basket is awaiting my return.  I've been thinking and planning what I will make with a few of these fabrics when I get back home:

SATURDAY - Celebration Day!!

It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  My apologies for offering no direct link today.

Obviously...

I have done zero AQUA scrap sewing this week!  Perhaps, next week I'll manage at least a few minutes sitting at my machine and listening to its hum.

Until next time...

Wonderful Wednesday - Another Summer UFO Club Finish

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday here at The Joyful Quilter!!  I've been keeping a secret.  I'm here to report on another finished a project!  Not just any project, but a UFO from my Summer 2025 UFO Club list.  It's been done since Saturday afternoon.  Travel plans made it impossible to post until now.

When I was thinking of what I might like to do during PURPLE month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I immediately thought of one of the projects pieced during a not-so-recent quilt retreat:

3. Grape Candy Coated (2023)

I didn't have the time or talent to quilt this the way I wanted it done, so I phoned a friend.  Fortunately, Britt had an opening in her longarming schedule for me.

The was what I found when I arrived to pick up the quilt...

Blurry photo, but the quilt turned out just the way I had hoped:

A couple of days later, the quilt was squared up...

The scrappy binding has been ready since the top was assembled:

Here's a prebound photo of the front...

And the back:

The binding was applied during Friday's Weekly Evening Art Zoom and sewn down during Saturday's Monthly Reflection Workshop, as it was the only time available for the task.  (Sorry, Caylee!)  Below, you will find the quilt's porch picture.  Both the front...

~ 66" wide x 70" tall

And the back of the quilt of the super scrappy quilt:

With those done, I took the completed quilt back inside for a finished floor shot.  Front...

And the back with the binding clearly showing:

Special thanks to Britt for taking the time to quilt this beauty for me, as I wouldn't have been able to complete it this month without her help!!!  Also, thank you to Amanda Jean Nyburg formerly of Crazy Mom Quilts blog (from her book Sunday Morning Quilts co-authored with Cheryl Arkison.) This was a super fun pattern (which I may or may not have followed to the letter.  Whoops!)

Until next time...
Mark another UFO off the list!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 30

Welcome to Week 30 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week promises to be a busy one.  I've got meetings, work, and a project or two that I want to complete by the end of the month.  I can assure you that PURPLE scrap sewing should feature prominently.

Let's see what transpired...

SUNDAY - Weekly Morning Art Zoom was dedicated to our monthly Roll the Dice game with two sets of prompts...

Set #1 (Top) - Markers, watercolors, stitching, favorite supply/technique/tool, and something found

Set #2 (Bottom) - Papers, ink, floral, write it, and found words:

Britt and I stayed after to discuss logistics for an important meet-up:

After lunch, a little bit of PURPLE scrap sewing happened:

Check out Wednesday's entry for more details!

Later this afternoon, I met with Knittingsuek for our Weekly Zoom Call:

MONDAY - Day Off

Groceries and a virtual art class with @tammykayeart started my day:

Lunch followed and then I returned to the studio for my Weekly Zoom Call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color.  Here we are sporting different shades of PURPLE in honor of our RSC Quilter friends:

After dinner I headed upstairs for tonight's Quilt Guild meeting via Zoom with modern quilt designer Tara Miller...

Coming to us from her Atlanta, Georgia studio, with her presentation on...

Guess what?!?!

I won her Zoom door prize and was able to choose a FREE pattern from the Quilt District web shop.  Which design would YOU have selected???  At first glance, I thought maybe her gorgeous Legacy Wheel, but that seem somewhat unrealistic, given my fabric preferences and project style.  My pick?  Well, I really debated about Churned Up because (as Britt said) that's right up my alley, but decided on Tara's project called Fan Girl:

Thank you, Tara!!!

After the meeting, I spent some time interpreting the CLOUD prompt for ICAD in collage:

TUESDAY - Day Off

I missed my Weekly Morning Art Zoom today.  Why???  Because shopping for a few new pieces to fit my still too thin frame was the task for the day.  Once that was done, I headed to Britt's house.  It was a multipurpose visit.  Some food, some art, and a quilt pick-up:

Thanks, B!

The PAISLEY prompt was made using a gel print scrap from Britt, while waiting for her to return from her chiropractic appointment:

WEDNESDAY - Wonderful Wednesday

Work

It was a busy day with a steady stream of customers throughout during my scheduled hours.

In neighborhood news...

I noticed a moving truck yesterday, but interpreted it as a neighbor having some work done since there was a handyman vehicle out front.  We later discovered that another house was occupied and this house in the cul-de-sac sold over the weekend:

THURSDAY - Work

Afterwards, I made progress on my PURPLE scrappy UFO by squaring up the quilt:

Day Off

Knit Group met this morning:

Lunch was followed by Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra where I used tissue paper and a dictionary entry to create my CACTUS card for the Index-Card-A-Day challenge:

During my Weekly Evening Art Zoom I applied binding to Grape Candy Coated...

And knocked out the HORIZON prompt for ICAD in pen and colored pencils:

SATURDAY - Work

It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Once this post goes live, I hope to be sitting at my machine to sew down the binding on my UFO.

Although, lunch and the NEW Get Messy Monthly Reflections Art Zoom may come first.  Later, I hope to Zoom with Knittingsuek.  We'll see how all that goes.

In other news...

I'm so relieved that Kristen @ Scrap Fabric Love received my block our Window Seats group quilt.  Here is the photo she shared on Scrap Club:

Until next time...

July 2025 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Please accept my apologies for the delay in this post's release!

Welcome to the JULY 2025 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here.  (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...

In 2025, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge.  Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs.  Basically, ANY quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

This month's color was:

PURPLE

Here are the scraps I had to work with:

The theme for July was:

ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN or BLOOM TIME

Thank you to LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color blog for the English Country Garden suggestion!  I added Bloom Time in case that felt too intimidating.

What project did you choose, Joyful???

A wall hanging that was PURPLE, of course.  In honor of this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month.

I decided against constructing a new quilt this month and opted for finishing a UFO.  The perfect one was on my Summer 2025  UFO Club list...

18. Inherited Iris (2020)

If you look closely, you will see that the quilt was already layered and part of the quilting was already done.  The wall hanging came to me that way.  It arrived...

In November 2020 when Ruth S. brought a tub of fabric from her friend Donna who was no longer interested in quilting:

Not just fabric, but a number of abandoned projects, as well:

The gorgeous floral bloom came home with me that day and has been patiently waiting to be finished.  Finally, the time has come!

With the project chosen...

The next decision was thread for completing the wall hanging:

Since it arrived partially hand quilted, I opted for echo quilting to finish it off:

As my machine purred, I was reminded just how long it takes to stitch quarter-inch lines around a focal image:

Where did the TABLE SCRAPS come into all this, Joyful???

While the project itself had been scrapped by its maker, the binding was straight out of my big bucket of batik scraps - since my PURPLE scrap basket hadn't offered any compatible strips...

The backing off-cuts above were trimmed down to size and the photo below was all that remained when my entry was done:

Here is my completed July 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge project...

~ 21" wide x 22" tall

I realize you might have seen the quilt earlier this week.  It was shared in my latest Wonderful Wednesday post.  The project served double duty and this post shared more of its story.  Thank you for indulging me.

What's next, Joyful???

We wait for Angela to announce the Color of the Month for August on her Rainbow Scrap Challenge post tomorrow.  I'll post an update as soon as I discover her choice.  UPDATE:

AQUA

August's theme is:

HOT FLASH

NOTE:  This one may be challenging.  I will look forward to seeing what you are inspired to create!  Remember, you are NOT required to use the suggested theme!!  The main goal is using up some of your scraps.  I have to say, I have NO IDEA what I will design to fit our August challenge!

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN / BLOOM TIME and/or PURPLE project in the LINK PARTY below.   All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, August 6th @ 11:59PM (EST).  You've got extra time since the last Friday of July came early.

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!
