Please accept my apologies for the delay in this post's release!
Welcome to the JULY 2025 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!! I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here. (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy. Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...
In 2025, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge. Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects. Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs. Basically, ANY quilted item qualifies. The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)
There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing. While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus. It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.
This month's color was:
PURPLE
Here are the scraps I had to work with:
The theme for July was:
ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN or BLOOM TIME
Thank you to LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color blog for the English Country Garden suggestion! I added Bloom Time in case that felt too intimidating.
What project did you choose, Joyful???
A wall hanging that was PURPLE, of course. In honor of this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month.
I decided against constructing a new quilt this month and opted for finishing a UFO. The perfect one was on my Summer 2025 UFO Club list...
18. Inherited Iris (2020)
If you look closely, you will see that the quilt was already layered and part of the quilting was already done. The wall hanging came to me that way. It arrived...
In November 2020 when Ruth S. brought a tub of fabric from her friend Donna who was no longer interested in quilting:
The gorgeous floral bloom came home with me that day and has been patiently waiting to be finished. Finally, the time has come!
With the project chosen...
The next decision was thread for completing the wall hanging:
Since it arrived partially hand quilted, I opted for echo quilting to finish it off:
As my machine purred, I was reminded just how long it takes to stitch quarter-inch lines around a focal image:
Where did the TABLE SCRAPS come into all this, Joyful???
While the project itself had been scrapped by its maker, the binding was straight out of my big bucket of batik scraps - since my PURPLE scrap basket hadn't offered any compatible strips...
The backing off-cuts above were trimmed down to size and the photo below was all that remained when my entry was done:
~ 21" wide x 22" tall
I realize you might have seen the quilt earlier this week. It was shared in my latest Wonderful Wednesday post. The project served double duty and this post shared more of its story. Thank you for indulging me.
What's next, Joyful???
We wait for Angela to announce the Color of the Month for August on her Rainbow Scrap Challenge post tomorrow. I'll post an update as soon as I discover her choice. UPDATE:
AQUA
August's theme is:
HOT FLASH
NOTE: This one may be challenging. I will look forward to seeing what you are inspired to create! Remember, you are NOT required to use the suggested theme!! The main goal is using up some of your scraps. I have to say, I have NO IDEA what I will design to fit our August challenge!
And now...
It's time for YOU to link up your ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN / BLOOM TIME and/or PURPLE project in the LINK PARTY below.
All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, August 6th @ 11:59PM (EST). You've got extra time since the last Friday of July came early.
Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

Isn't that pretty?! I love the colors - the dark flower against the bright background. Your quilting is perfect for it, too. My post will be up tomorrow - back soon!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - it would be a delightful cushion cover. The echo quilting was the perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteYour quilting is stunning and very flattering on the piece. Great finish, Joy!
