Tonya Krout of Durham sews blue binding on a quilt Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill. Members of the Durham-Orange Quilters' Guild made about 50 quilts for Hurricane Sandy victims in the Northeast. Krout's grandparents made quilts for their eight children and many of their grandchildren. Krout still has her red and gray quilt more than 50 years later. "It went to college with me. It goes everywhere with me," she says. "It's very much a comfort." The guild has about 200 members and meets the third Monday of each month at the church. Learn more at www.durhamorangequilters.com.

MTS Quilt meets the Trail
The Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, will be hosting a reception in honor of the Durham Orange Quilt Guild's Art Bee on Thursday, January 17th, at the Nature Art Gallery in the Museum of Natural Sciences, in Raleigh.
They have invited their local members to see our "amazing work", and hope to have quite a turnout. For those unfamiliar with the Museum, there is a parking lot on the right in the block immediately after you pass the museum on Jones Street. It 's a pay lot.
Go through the main entrance of the Museum, and then into the Museum store, over to the left. There are stairs inside that take you to the Nature Art Gallery on the Mezzanine level.
The Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail thanked us for putting our creativity and skills to work in such a unique way. They stated that they are honored that the Art Bee chose to depict scenes from the trail, and cannot wait for their members to see it in person. I am pleased to be listed among these talented quilters.
The Mountain-to-Sea Trail quilt series exhibit can be seen from now through January 28, 2013 at Nature Art Gallery in the Museum of Natural Sciences, in Raleigh at 11 Jones Street. The gallery hours are:
Regular Hours:
Monday-Saturday: 9 am-5 pm

Winter 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The List
I'm not sure if I'll get anything done during this session, but here's my list - just in case.
My list for the Summer session morphed into my list for the Fall session, which has now transformed into my Winter 2013 list. I didn't finish much so there is plenty more to be finished!
Follow the link to view the list:
http://thejoyfulquilter.blogspot.com/2012/07/summer-2012-ravelry-ufo-club-list.html
(Ignore the Mill Quilt since I completed that one.)
I also have 3 commission quilts that need to be done and the 3 baby quilts that should have been done last month, but I waited too late to begin and then life got in the way!

Who can resist a Raffle Quilt???

I'm a sucker for a Raffle Quilt and my Ravelry friend made this quilt to raise money for a worthy cause. Here's a link to Pam's blog post:

Will Work for Yarn
I take in the occasional quilting project to support my yarn habit. The latest project was a Dresden Plate Comforter that I finished today. Hooray!
When I was first asked to complete this project, I had some reservations about it. Goodness knows that I have enough of my own UFOs. Now, here I am taking on someone else's!
Alas, I am a sucker for yarn money...
How much time can a 6 block quilt take??? Well, in this case, it took 3 months. Life has a way of getting in the way of what we want to do. This time work and Quilt Show preparations got in the way of quilting.
Have you ever worked on a project that someone else started? That can be a challenge in itself. We don't all operate at the same skill level. Nor do we all work with the same attention to detail. (Not to mention the fact that I wasn't provided the original template for the Dresden Plate!)
Another thing that I found is that it takes a LOT longer to hand applique a Dresden Plate block than the sum of the time it takes to apply one blade/petal x the number of blades/petals making up each block. Considerably longer!
All in all, the piece turned out well and the recipient was pleased with the end result. (And I got a bit of yarn money, too!)
Photos will be added when they become available.
Until next time...
Happy Quilting!
