ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 17

Note: TABLE SCRAPS Challenge Link Party just below this post.

Welcome to Week 17 of the 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Angela @ So Scrappy is our hostess.  She leads us through using up our fabric scraps one color at a time.  This week I finished up a bit of Light/Bright BLUE sewing.  To see what else I've been up to...

... Read on!!

SUNDAY - DS1 went home this afternoon, so I was able to concentrate on finishing my project for this week's Kitchen Stitchin' Blog Hop hosted by Carla @ Creatin' in the Sticks.  If you missed it, I recommend that you head over once you are done here.

MONDAY - I spent the morning writing and the afternoon trying to tie up loose ends. I didn't get very far before my phone rang.  That's a story for another day.

This evening was (Virtual) Quilt Guild.  I signed on just after dinner:

Tonight's speaker was Jan Doyle @ Wyse Works who presented Quilts and the Underground Railroad: Fact or Fiction?  You can get a glimpse of the program by follow THIS LINK:

TUESDAY - My STOP on the Kitchen Stitchin' Blog Hop.  Follow this LINK to the full post.  Here's a sneak peek:

I enjoyed an impromptu visit with Knittingsuek for a grocery swap:

This afternoon, found me Zooming with my Cozy Little Bee.  You're right!  It was only LeeAnna and me, but...

That's perfectly OK with us.  Goodness knows, we talk enough for a whole screen full of people!  LOL!!

WEDNESDAYThis morning, I met my friend Nicki at the coffee shop to chat and bring home these darling (half sewn) adopted scraps:

A new Guest Blogger(s) post went LIVE this afternoon.  Head over to THIS POST to see what Jane from Australia made this month!

THURSDAY - Weekly Quilt Group found members at another Zoom meeting, as the oak pollen was out of control:

FRIDAY - During the night, the April 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge/Link Party went live.  Find it HERE to add your link!

My friend Beth hosted ZoomKNIT, as Cindy has out of town guests.  Why do I look like I was dressed to be outside?  I'm stubborn in springtime!  I refused to turn the heat back on, therefore, it was 59 F inside our house this morning:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  The RSC Quilters are approaching the end of their allotted time with Light and/ or Bright BLUE.  Will you join me in having a look at their progress?

Oops!!  Change of plans...

My Saturday Quilt Bee's (outdoor) IN-PERSON meeting got canceled due to local weather predictions.

SEW...

I'm on my way to a (Virtual) Sew Day this morning.  I'll be busy for most of the day.  Catch you later!

Until next time...

April 2021 - TABLE SCRAPS Runner/Topper Challenge - Link Party

Dear Readers,

Apologies for the missing Link Party when the post went live!!  Not sure how that happened, as it had been embedded in the post prior to release.  I'm sure it was operator error!  Sigh... Readers win because of my mistake.  April's Table Scraps Link Party will be open for an entire week.

Thank you for your understanding,
Joy

Welcome to the April 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Runner/Topper Challenge!!  Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to enter your table runner/topper, mug rug, etc. in the Link Party by Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 11:59 PM (EST.)

No blog?  No problem, you will be able to have your scrappy table runners/toppers hosted here on The Joyful Quilter.  Just pop me an email with your name/state and a photo of your completed project and I will add it to a follow-up post.

From our participants...

Nann is back with a couple more links from All People Quilt.  50+ FREE Table Runner Patterns and Our Best Table Toppers.

Got floral scraps???  Wanda @ Exuberant Color finished this lovely 18" x 53" table runner last month...

Photo provided by Wanda @ Exuberant Color.

... Using the Hot Dish Chain TUTORIAL from Debbie @ Stitchin' Therapy.  I'm sad to say that Debbie passed away earlier this week.  She was a very talented quilter and will be greatly missed.

Got favorites???

Email me , if you have a "go to" runner or topper pattern.  I'll add it to a future post.  Thanks!

About the table covering, Joyful...

No worries, dear reader!  I'm getting to that.  Since it was Bright and/or Light BLUE month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I pulled out this overflowing Quilted Scrap Basket:

You can find the tutorial HERE.

SEW...

What happened next was some sorting...

... And some sewing:

That was followed by a snip and a trim and MORE sewing...

You see, I decided to give the Jelly Roll Race method a try:

This was the result of sewing 15 or so scrappy 1.5" strips together:

At this point...

I wasn't loving the vertical lines going up and down the length of the little runner.  I opted for one more slice and an adjusted outcome.  For that, I stitched several short scrap strips to add to either end...

7" x 18"

... Along with another, which I added to the center.  That row can be found marked by the yellow pin at near the top left of the photo below:

Quilting followed:

More quilting followed that:

Whoops!  I matchstick quilted ANOTHER mini quilt:

Then...

All that remained was the binding:

I made my selection from the following:

Here is my April TABLE SCRAPS Challenge piece...

And...

In place on my sewing table:

Now, it's your turn to share your "table scraps" project for this month's Challenge.  Add your link below and make sure to include a link to this post in the one you share:

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 10 - Jane from Australia

Welcome to another edition of the Guest Blogger(s)!!  Today, I'm pleased to say that Jane from Australia is with us to share her April 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry.

Jane wrote the following:

Here is my entry for the Table Scraps challenge for April. I know you have Veterans Day and Memorial Day, in Oz we have ANZAC Day (April) and Remembrance Day (November).

The poem, Just once a year was written by my younger brother, sadly now deceased.

The cross stitch was completed some years ago and has been maturing in a closet. The Ode is said at Military events and every evening in the RSL (Returned Service League) Clubs which are open to all.

The ANZAC Salute shows a couple of badges from WW2.

The family list is the generations that we have known, parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.  (Photo Currently Unavailable!)

What a special table runner...

Thank you for sharing your ANZAC table runner with us, Jane!  I am SEW pleased to be able to share your work here on my blog.  I will happily do the same for others who aren't able to directly join the link party.

Share the quilty love for Jane's project in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her table runner as much as I did!  Thank you, again, Jane.

Link Party Reminder...

The April TABLE SCRAPS Link Party will be open from 12:01 AM on Friday, April 24th - Sunday, April 26th at 11:59 PM (EDT).  Looking forward to seeing YOU and your project there (completed or in the works)!!  If you are running late, double check the Link Party clock, as last time it remained open for an extra amount of time.

Until next time...

Kitchen Stitchin' Blog Hop - Day 2 - My STOP on the Hop!!

Welcome to Day 2 of In the Kitchen Stitchin' Blog Hop!!  Our hostess is Carla @ Creatin' in the Sticks.  I signed up as soon as I heard!  I've enjoyed participating in a number of her Blog Hops over the last several years.  This one sounded like a challenge!

Carla's project instructions were as follows...

Create something inspired by the kitchen.
It can be pot holders, tea towels, coasters, placemats, table runners, mug rugs, or even a toaster cover.
It's your interpretation of a kitchen project.
Maybe a quilt with kitchen gadgets or a color in your kitchen that inspires you.
Anything kitchen.  You decide.

Right away I had two ideas about what to make.  Let's see which one of them won out...

The easy route?  That would be a Quilted Instant Pot Cozy.

The challenging project?  A long overdue exchange gift for my friend Belindybe.  She has a habit of requesting projects which stretch my comfort zone in one way or another.  Our exchange for 2020 hasn't been forgotten, but it also still hasn't been made.  :o((

I got a wake up call from Carla one week ahead of the Blog Hop.  Had I started my project?  NO!!! Time to get busy...

SEW...

Finally, I faced the challenge of turning these bits...

... Into flower petals:

It took some time to arrange them...

... And rearrange them with a couple new petals:

Eventually, I hit on a pleasing design...

... Then I removed the petals to assemble the background and replace the flower for stitching:

The backing was also chosen at this stage of the game:

Layering with batting came next...

... Which was followed by quilting...

... Quilting...

... And MORE quilting:

Side one is complete, but I forgot to take a progress photo:

What about the HOT part, Joyful???

Here's the condensed version.  The quilting...

... And the finishing:

Before sewing around the perimeter of the hot pad and turning it right side out, I added a THIRD layer of cotton batting just to be sure surfaces were protected from hot pots and/or pans.  I have a yard of Insul-Bright lost somewhere in my studio.  I guess I will need to make more hot pads (or some bowl cozies) when I finally locate it!  Sigh...

At long last, this gift was complete...

Why I let this project grow to be such a scary thing is beyond me!  It's embarrassing that I allowed it to paralyze me for such a long time, when the reality was not terrible, at all.  Many apologies to dear, sweet Belinda, who was SEW patient with me (and probably gave up all hope of EVER getting her swap gift!)

What about the prize giveaway, Joyful???

Yep!  I haven't forgotten.  For those of you who are new here, it is my habit to make something to share with one lucky winner when I participate in a Blog Hop.  This time is no different.

What do we get?  What do we get???

This time, I'm offering a custom made Mug Rug or Quilted Thread Catcher to the winner.  Your choice of color with my choice of design.  To enter the prize drawing just leave me a comment telling me about your favorite recipe.  It can be any category: appetizer, main dish, side dish, drinks, or desserts!  I'll choose the recipe that sounds the most interesting to me from the comments left prior to 9:00 PM  on Tuesday, April 27th.

The drawing is CLOSED!!!

You MUST leave your email address, if it's not included on your Blogger account, as I will contact the winner via email.

This post would not be complete without...

Sending out a BIG thank you to Needleb for her design advice along the way to a completed project.  Thanks, B!!  I appreciate the suggestions you made when my machine was acting up on Day Three and the fact that you didn't laugh too hard at this blooper moment late in the evening of Day Two of the construction process:

REMINDER:  Who could believe it's already the LAST weekend of the month???  The April 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge is THIS WEEKEND!!!  Anyone with a runner, topper, mug rug, etc. is invited to join in the Link Party.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 16

Welcome to Week 16 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week, I'm starting with what happened last Saturday.  I was feeling shy about my plans for the day, so didn't hint about why I might not be commenting right away on many posts for the RSC... I attended an in-person indoor Sew/Craft Friends-zy event:

Let's see what kept me busy...

SUNDAY - I was back to a "normal" Sew Some Love Sunday post.  This afternoon found me finishing up the quilt on the longarm:

Just as I took the final stitch, the phone rang.  Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts was calling with some exciting news.  Watch for that in the coming weeks over on her blog.  YOU won't want to miss it!!

MONDAY - It's Mail Call Monday!  I received a package (one day last week) from Erin @ My Patchwork Life and thought you might like to see what I got.

TUESDAY - Today was Tidy Up Tuesday and I shared an H2H Check-In post.  Head over to see the work of a number of quilting friends who celebrated some Hometown Heroes.  I did a variety of quilty tasks this afternoon and evening, but don't have any photos to share.  (Even though there is a new client quilt on the longarm and I made two new masks this evening.)

WEDNESDAY - Today consisted of paperwork, quilting, and then some sewing during my Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

I worked on my nephew's baby quilt with a bit of Bright BLUE for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

I also released a new Wonderful Wednesday post.  It's filled with scrappy fun and here's a preview:

I received the following notice from Blogger today:

FollowByEmail widget (Feedburner) is going away
You are receiving this information because your blog uses the FollowByEmail widget (Feedburner).
Recently, the Feedburner team released a system update announcement , that the email subscription service will be discontinued in July 2021.
After July 2021, your feed will still continue to work, but the automated emails to your subscribers will no longer be supported. If you’d like to continue sending emails, you can download your subscriber contacts. Learn how

Not sure how I'm going to deal with that news.  The FollowByEmail widget is my preferred way to receive notifications from the blogs that I follow and many of you readers receive my posts that way, as well.  I was stunned when I followed the link and found this:

I am sorry that because of the upcoming cancellation, more than a thousand readers will be inconvenienced.  I'm SEW disappointed that we will no longer be receiving email updates from the blogs we love via Google/FeedBurner!

What do we do now, Joyful???

There ARE other subscription services out there.  Here's hoping we can all find one that works for us.  I'm recommending that you try Bloglovin', as a few of the blogs I follow come through to my email that way.  There is a button for that service way down my sidebar, but here's the direct LINK so you don't have to go scrolling for it.  I hope YOU will sign up (somewhere) before the end of June so you don't miss a single post!

THURSDAY - My Weekly Quilt Group went LIVE, again.  We gathered on the stairs for a group photo:

Oh!  I forgot to show you what I brought home from last week's meeting... MORE scraps:

Here's a look inside the TWO bags that Dee Dee brought for me:

Thanks, Dee Dee!!!  What fun I'm going to have with these.

Ella also had a handful of scraps for me.  Notice those Light BLUE bits for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

FRIDAY - ZoomKNIT met this morning.  These knitting friends joined in the fun:

I worked on the toe of my second Minion sock.  A bit of Bright BLUE in honor of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

SATURDAY - It's Link Party day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  I'll be visiting the links in dribs and drabs between working this Light/Bright BLUE mini:

Until next time...
