Sew Some Love Sunday - H2H 2022 Final Link Party - Sunshine Cabin

Welcome to the 2022 Hands2Help edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  My blocks were begun last year, but I was quilting up a storm, then packing to move house and didn't finish them.  I knew that they would make a great jump start on this year's donation.

I was right!!!

The final blocks were finished about a month ago and I decided on a layout:

If YOU recognize that polka dot fabric, THANK YOU!!  That print is such a fun choice for the setting triangles and there's even a little leftover for another project:

Assembling the rows had me missing my "design floor" from the last house and had me wishing for a spot for a design wall in this house, as there was a second quiltmaker in the studio that day, but I'm certainly not complaining about that:

I was left with four blocks to transform into a scrappy something at a later date.  I used every bit of the floral print!  I believe my friend DeeDee is to thank for that one:

I posted about the completed quilt top HERE:

Not SEW long ago, I decided on a backing (also from DeeDee, if memory serves me correctly) and pieced in a strip of sunshine to make up the difference...

The quilt waited...

And it was eventually (in celebration of a completed T-quilt!) loaded on the longarm:

I started with yet another attempt at doing Orange Peels:

It only took THREE setting triangles for me to realize two things:

The first was that I may NEVER master that quilting design and the second was that a large allover meander goes really fast!  Before I knew it, it was time to trim the quilt...

... And prepare the binding:

Once again, the quilt waited...

... Until I was done with the second T-quilt.  Only then did I allow myself to work on this one.  Yesterday, I was pleased to finish off the binding:

Look closely, RSC Quilter friends!  There is some Dark GREEN to end the May Color of the Month.

And there, dear friends, is another quilt done and dusted...  Too bad it wasn't on the UFO Club list!!!  :o((

Again, these blocks came by way of Sarah @ Confessions of a Fabric Addict who shared a tutorial by Christina @ A Few Scraps for H2H21.  It was YELLOW month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge when I got started on my blocks.  I's SEW glad that they gave me a head start for this year's event!  This cheerful quilt will be donated to my local Quilt Guild for one of their charities.  A smaller quilt was just what I needed during T-Quilt season.  :o))

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 21

Welcome to Week 21 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was a different kind of busy than most.  You won't be able to notice it by the photos, but

How did the week go, Joyful???

I released the blog post linked above and Zoomed with Knittingsuek:

I spent the early afternoon finishing up a project and delivered it before dinner:

MONDAY - Work with a side of quilting and some art journaling, too.  I tried the image transfer technique that today's instructor shared for Messy May:

.
TUESDAY - Like yesterday, work with a bit of quilting and a side of art journaling.  Today's page included GREEN (paper) scraps:

Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

Another day, another journal entry including GREEN scraps:

THURSDAY - Today was a quilting day (with a dental appointment thrown in for good measure), but before I could get back to quilting, I had to stop for a grocery pick-up:

It was also a painting day.  The focus was blue, but I included some GREEN, too:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

One more thing to share this week.  IG friends may have seen this, but some of you seem to be interested in my foray into journaling.  This week, I ventured off into abstract art with artist Louise Fletcher's Find Your Joy expressive painting course:

While not typically a favorite style of mine, it certainly was a TON of fun to play with!!  Would you believe it this began as a big blob?  Really, see for yourself:

Look closely and you with notice that I mixed up some Dark GREEN paint.  :o))

Until next time...

May 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the May 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.

I'm a scrap quilter who is really enjoying this challenge. For several years, I hosted individual challenges in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Last year, I went global when I offered the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  There were participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world.  It's been SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I changed the "rules" and am pleased to offer the...

Button credit to Susan @ Desert Sky Quilts, updated by me.

This year, baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs we focused on during the 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  This year, basically, ANY small quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see May's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

May's theme was...

SQUARES

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was Sage/Forest GREEN so I brought out my scrap basket to see what might inspire me and selected some scraps and cut a few squares:

What happened next was a really fun experiment...

Preeti, I shrunk the (Masala) Box:

Some simple straight(ish) line quilting for the imperfect "squares" that are absolutely NO REFECTION on Preeti's pattern!  I was in an improv sort of mood:

A while later, the binding was cut:

Between commission tasks, I put the binding on:

Once the commission was done, I finished this off, too:

I present my May 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge:

7" x 7" SQUARE-ish

What's next, Joyful???

June will be arriving before we know it.  Can YOU guess what the Color of the Month might be?  Angela will let us know soon enough, but...

June's theme is:

STRIPES

NOTE:  Angela announced Bright and/or Dark BLUE for June.  (I will update on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your GREEN and/or Square-ular project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Tuesday, May 31st @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

Wonderful Wednesday - The Grand T-Quilt - A UFO Club Finish

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday!!  This one is special.  It tells the tale of a UFO Club finish, which is always a happy day for me.

The story begins...

... With the arrival of this fabulous backing fabric:

As well as the few remaining shirts to be prepared:

Before long, all of the shirts were prepped:

Here's what they looked like on the "design bed" before...

... One final switcheroo near the bottom of the "block" layout:

This is the only pieced "square" in the entire quilt, but I decided to sub it for one of the plain shirts:

As an afterthought, I decided this quilt needed some personalization...

SEW...

The concept shown above was expanded with the help of a paper mock-up:

The black rectangles won out over the letters being placed directly on the T-shirt:

They were cut out of remnants of my favorite shirt in the quilt to spread that watery blue a bit further:

From here, things progressed quickly to sewn columns...

... To pairs of columns, to sections, and ultimately to a completed quilt top:

Once it hit that stage, I loaded it right up and the quilting began:

Before I knew it, the quilting was done...

... Except for the LAST TWO BLOCKS!!  Would you believe I ran out of bobbin thread?  It's true.  The 70" x 90" quilt has more than one pre-wound bobbin in it:

Then came the miles of binding, along with thread color selection:

After that, I trimmed up the quilt to ready it for the next step:

And started in on applying the binding, which was quickly followed by stitching it down:

Nothing like the LAST MINUTE to get something done:

As the plot thickened...

Thanks go out to DS2, I got a full photo of the quilt before jumping in the car to deliver it:

Not SEW fast, Joyful!!!

There was one more task to complete prior to delivery.  Leftover backing fabric was just begging to be made into a pillowcase to accompany the quilt:

The story ends with...

... One happy customer:

Thanks for trusting me with these special memories, Sue!  T-quilts are always challenging, but oh SEW rewarding.
Thank you to Jean for recommending me for this project!  Thanks to Leslie @ The Seasoned Homemaker for her tutorial for the Burrito Pillowcase.  The clear directions made it fairly easy for this directionally challenged quilter to add this finishing touch.

Now, let's mark one quilting UFO off the list for the Spring 2022 (Ravelry) UFO Club (and move on to finishing up another.)

Until next time...
Whew!!!
