ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 48

Welcome to Week 48 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  With a month of  retirement under my belt, I will spare you the weekly update.  Will there be scrappy sewing this week?  I certainly hope so!

Read on to find out...

SUNDAY - During my Weekly Morning Art Zoom, I cut shapes from the gel printed papers I made yesterday and created this collage:

I had another chat with Sue this afternoon.  She called to check on me because my guys aren't at home this week.  Thanks, Sue!

MONDAY - Another FREE watercolor class with Tammy Kaye, but this morning it was on Patreon instead of Zoom.  This is my version of the floral bouquet we worked on today:

Later, I took in a watercolor class with Emma Weekes.  The splodges in the grass was part of our warm-up, but I opted to paint right over it instead of  wasting paper:

TUESDAY -  During Open Studio with Barb this afternoon, I worked on adding details to my 2-minute warm-up landscape painting from yesterday's class with Tammy Kaye:

Later...

Here I am waiting for my Weekly Zoom Call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

We got our wires crossed on the timing of today's meeting.

WEDNESDAY - Doctor Day

Before I headed out, I sorted through these scraps and made a start on my November 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry.  I hope you will check the link in Friday's entry to see what became of them:

Nothing like the LAST minute, right!!

At least I was on time for my pulmonology follow-up appointment!  Today I met with a different fellow and the UNC lead physician focusing on my lung condition came in to consult with me.  She said that I picked the right day to come in.  I was told to continue my nebulizer treatments and was referred to attend an upcoming virtual Patient Education Program to learn more about what ails me.  (My words, not hers.)

Next, a quick lunch and a stop at the car dealership to see about a replacement windshield since a dump truck's tires through a rock at my car and put a chip in it.  The chip was accompanied by a crack that has been steadily growing since the unfortunate incident.  :o((

Afterwards, I had promised Knittingsuek a visit.  And look!  She surprised me with a gift:

THURSDAY - Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I attended my friend Beth's holiday celebration.  It was lovely buffet at her community's fine dining restaurant with a few of her neighbors who generously welcomed me:

DH's flight returns at 10 PM, but DS1 agreed to pick him up at the airport so I will go get him tomorrow.  I spent the evening working in the studio.

No Knit Group today.  At least, not for me!  I had a few things to do...

First - Stop at the local Big Box Store to check for white quilt batting.

Second - Go to Cary Quilting Company to meet up with Monica from the UFO Club:

And...

Third - Head to DS1's for a visit to bring DH home from his cross-county road trip.  I'm amazed by how fast a week passed!  He is so glad to be home and I was happy to see him and enjoyed the visit with our son and his girlfriend.  Here he is with her ginormous cat:

Obviously, I ended up missing Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra AND unfortunately, my Weekly Evening Art Zoom, too.  I could have shown up really late, but opted to continue the chat with DH that began during our dinner out.  He was catching me up about trip details, DS2's apartment, and the interesting news about his new work environment.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Here's hoping everyone is having an enjoyable holiday weekend.

Until next time...

November 2025 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the NOVEMBER 2025 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here.  (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...

In 2025, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge.  Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs.  Basically, ANY quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

This month's color was - since Angela didn't assign one:

Maker's Choice

The theme for November was:

FAVORITE BOOK or MOVIE

What project did you choose this month, Joyful???

I went through nearly the entire month without a clue!  I was thisclose to taking a pass this time, but thought better of it.  After donning my thinking cap, I took a mental field trip back in time.

Where did this lead???

Back to movies from the 80's, but none of my favorites sparked any ideas for an entry.

Finally, I landed on an idea and ran with it...

Anne of Green Gables fit BOTH of this month's prompts, as I fell in love with the movie during a long ago PBS fundraiser and later was given the book series by my sweet MIL.

I grabbed this bag scraps...

To chose the "field" fabric, dug back in for the "roof" in a solid, and selected a "sky" fabric from the Light BLUE Quilted Scrap Basket:

Next...

I quickly quilted up the scene:

Then came the challenge of the house:

How will you create the gables, Joyful???

Using unconventional methods of faux piping for the "porch roof" and double-fold binding for the roof of the house.  This is how it turned out:

A rummage through the scrap binding box yielded something just the right length in a close enough shade of green to coordinate with the "field" fabric.  Unfortunately, I applied it to the FRONT of the quilt, forcing me to hand sew the binding down:

Here is my (nearly) completed November 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge project...

It still needs some details, but my first attempt failed spectacularly.  I thought I could quilt them in, but now I'm going to applique or draw them in instead, but that will have to wait for later.  I've got a quilt back to assemble between now and 10 o'clock tomorrow morning so I've got to take care of that first.

Once the quilt back was sewn together...

I tried the drawn details I hoped to add to the house:

In retrospect...

It might be better to have the quilt in the same room when constructing windows and doors!  Even though I would really like to have my entry done-done, I'm too tired for another go at it tonight.  Stay tuned.  I'll drop an updated photo at some point over the weekend.

What's next, Joyful???

As usual, Angela opted out of a Color of the Month for December on her Rainbow Scrap Challenge line-up for this year.  I decided on the following for our purposes.  The final Color of the Month for 2025 will be...

RAINBOW

December's theme is:

Give Peace a Chance and/or Anything You Find Peaceful

NOTE:  Thank you to Judy @ Busy Hands are Happy Hands for suggesting the theme.  I'm looking forward to seeing what how you will interpret the prompt.  Remember, you are NOT required to use the theme provided!!  The main goal is using up some of your scraps.  I have to admit, I'm unsure of how I might interpret our November challenge!  I'm sure I'll think of something... Eventually.

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your Favorite Book or Movie and/or MAKER'S Choice (color) project in the LINK PARTY below. All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, December 3rd @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 46

Welcome to Week 46 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This is Week THREE of my retirement.  I've got something scheduled every day.  Will that leave time for any scrap sewing???

Read on to find out...

SUNDAY - Weekly Morning Art Zoom found me doing a little bit of gel printing:

After lunch, I sat down at the sewing machine with my scrappy donation quilt growing into rows:

Before dinner Sue and I met for our Weekly Zoom Call.  I'm holding up the tumbler that she gave me at retreat.  I was already absorbed in a quilt project and completely missed our photo op that weekend:

Thank you again, Sue!!

MONDAY - The day began with a FREE watercolor workshop with Tammy Kaye.  Given the opening statements, I wasn't sure I wasn't sure that I would stay for the class.  Here's the painting I made based on the inspiration photo:

I finished the class in time for my Weekly Zoom Call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

TUESDAY -  Open Studio with Barb found my going through my collage scraps, again:

WEDNESDAY - Doctor Day

This afternoon was my follow-up CT scan to see how my lungs are doing.  When I got home, I noticed that the first house on the other side of the street had been landscaped while I was gone.  It is one of only THREE final homes to be completed prior to road resurfacing:

THURSDAY - Weekly Quilt Group

I was there, but don't have photo evidence.  I do have a photo of the journal page created during today's Curiosity Collective artist date over on Get Messy:

I continued my artsy afternoon at Sketchbook Party with Renee Mueller.  I added this page in my 2023 Flowers Magic Artfest journal...

Along with this abstract composition during Pause & Paint with Italian artist Norma Chung:

FRIDAY - Knit Group

Beth was the happy recipient of the scrappy quilted art piece I made last during weekend's MAKE IT MINI workshop with Kristen @scrapfabriclove:

Here are the four members in attendance:

After lunch, I went up to the studio for Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra.  The page shown below was previosuly stenciled, but I decided to add a magazine image.  It was collaged on either side of one of the vellum pages in my Get Messy Art Journal:

Later, during my Weekly Evening Art Zoom, I worked on this page in my Collage Scraps Altered Book journal:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

I spent the majority of the day taking care of some neglected household chores.  Once my tasks were complete, I met with Knittingsuek for our Weekly Zoom Call.  I didn't realize that it was actually the second one for this week until I started dropping in the photos:

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC25 - Week 45

Welcome to Week 45 of the 2025 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week is sure to include some scrappy sewing, as it is flanked by the final retreat day on the front end and Kristen's MAKE IT MINI event on the tail end.  What a way to start and finish Week Two of my retirement!  :o))

Also...

Since Angela didn't assign a new Color of the Month for November, I've declared it Maker's Choice.  That should make things easier for participants in this month's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  They won't have to worry about fitting a particular color into their FAVORITE BOOK or MOVIE project.  Will YOU be inspired to make an entry?

Let's see how my week progressed...

SUNDAY - Retreat - Day Four

No Weekly Morning Art Bee and no Zoom with Sue (because she was here, too.)

I had brought only one more project to the retreat. A scrappy donation quilt that I started during over the summer.  I laid out all out on the design floor...

(Along with a few extra scraps from Britt, Kirsten and Stacy) I got a start on the piecing:

MONDAY - Doctor Day

Before my appointment, I finally pulled the painted print that I worked on last week.  I meant to pull it on Thursday morning before leaving for retreat, but I forgot:

After lunch I headed to Chapel Hill for my dermatology follow-up appointment.  They didn't use this machine, but used the "cryo kettle" on one spot and took a biopsy of another which thankfully came back normal:

TUESDAY - Open Studio w/ Barb found me working on my opening page for the Season of Do It Scared.  I incorporated yesterday's gel print pull into matching background and added a quote from Caylee Grey to finish off the page:

Postponed due to yesterday's appointment, I enjoyed my Weekly Zoom Call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color early this afternoon:

WEDNESDAY - Wonderful Wednesday

You've probably already seen the completed quilt last weekend, but it needed its own post.  Here the accompanying porch swing photo that I neglected to add...

Along with a well lit photo of Britt's beautiful quilting:

A grocery run and one of two breathing treatments filled my day.  The treatments take 30 minutes to an hour each, but seem to be helping clear my lungs:

THURSDAY - Weekly Quilt Group

The highlight of the meeting was this beauty made by Deborah, quilted by Singing Stitches:

Was followed by art time with Britt.  We were late to Curiosity Collective because of the time change over the weekend, but spent the afternoon doing some gelli printing with a focus on image transfers:

FRIDAY - Knit Group

Just two of us this morning:

After lunch, I went up to the studio for Get Messy's Open Studio with Deandra.  My time was spent on this page in my Collage Scraps Altered Book journal:

Britt and I were early for our Weekly Evening Art Zoom:

I finally started on my journal for Meg's No Sew November art journaling challenge:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  I'm pleased to have made progress with my Light NEUTRAL scraps last month, but haven't decided what colors I'll be working with during November.

This afternoon, I'm attending a virtual class with Kristen @ Scrap Fabric Love.  I'm excited for her Make It Mini event because you all know how much I like to quilt small.  I'll drop in a photo of what I made later today:

Until next time...
