The 100 Day Project 2026 - #100Days100ThingsDecluttered - The Review

Welcome to the latest edition of Tidy Up Tuesday!!  This is the final post in The 100 Day Project for 2026.  I started this year's edition of The 100 Day Project on February 22nd.  I'm pleased that I committed to it again this year.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I was initially hesitant to participate, but after two seasons of the event, I looked forward to another chance to lighten the load in my home and studio.  If you've been following along, you might be aware that I released weekly updates as a record of my progress and for those of you who were interested in seeing what goes out the door.

What was your project, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  Most artists make a plan to create 100 of something.  That didn't work for me.  You can read about my project HERE.  That link will tell you all about my plan.

The gist of my focus...

Decluttering my home and studio in an effort to free up space for MORE creativity.  I have worked diligently toward that goal.

Here are my Weekly Project Totals:

Week 1: 16/100
Week 2: 19/100
Week 3: 9/100
Week 4: 10/100

Updated Project Total: 54/100

Week 5:  0/100
Week 6:  10/100
Week 7:  5/100
Week 8:  32/100

Updated Project Total:  101/100

Week 9:    26/100
Week 10:  27/100
Week 11:  5/100
Week 12:  159/100

Updated Project Total:  318/100

Week 13:  13/100

After checking and rechecking the numbers the Final Project Total: 331/100!!!

While I wasn't able to beat last year's total, I'm still glad that I gave the challenge another try.  The trunk of my car was loaded several times over the last 13 weeks, the contents delivered to one of the local donation centers, the recycling center or the trash, but now the box is empty and ready for next year's event:

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts throughout the past 13 weeks!  My heart was filled with gratitude upon reading your kind comments and I truly appreciated your willingness to continue cheering me along.  Additionally, I absolutely LOVE the fact that a number of you even joined this decluttering journey with me!!

Tidy Up Tuesday - The 100 Day Project - Week 13

Welcome to Week 13 of the 2026 edition of #100Days100ThingsDecluttered mini-series here at The Joyful Quilter!!  As you may know, I've been participating in The 100 Day Project again this year.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I was originally hesitant to participate, but I've made good progress these last two years.  I have released weekly updates on Tidy Up Tuesday for those who might be interested in seeing what gets decluttered.

What did you say your project was, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  You can read about it HERE.  That link will tell you all about my project.

The gist of my focus...

Lightening the load in my home and studio in an effort to free up space for MORE creativity.

The quest has been completed...

And as I approached the end of the project, and my updated goal of 200 items out the door was smashed last week, I pushed to declutter even more items from my home and studio, before time ran out.  This was the FINAL week of the challenge.  There is still SEW much more that can go!  Did I hit the 400 mark?

Take a look at my progress for Week Thirteen:

I thought I might have another BIG burst of energy this week.  Alas, that didn't happen!  I only managed to sort through our auxiliary closet and small section of the garage.

These items left the house during Week 13...

4 small toys
1 store bought quilt
2 pillows
1 daybed cover
1 mattress cover
4 bags of trash (left in DH's van for too many weeks to confess)

Week 13  Total: 13/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total for Week 13:  331/100

and the items too large for the box...

Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I worked my way through this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.  We've gotten rid of quite a bit of excess.

Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing commented the following after Week 12's post:

Great progress indeed! I joined you by bringing 3 bags of scraps to a friend who wanted them....and more will be heading her way in June! Hooray for renewing our spaces, recycling and reusing!

Here was my response:

Thank you for joining in the decluttering effort, Kathleen! Misery loves company.  :P

Tidy Up Tuesday - The 100 Day Project - Week 12

Welcome to Week 12 of the 2026 edition of #100Days100ThingsDecluttered mini-series here at The Joyful Quilter!!

The gist of my focus...

Lightening the load in my home and studio in an effort to free up space for MORE creativity.

The quest continues...

As I approach the end of the project, my updated goal of 200 items out the door is in sight.  I'm pushing to declutter more items from my home and studio, but time is running out.  Only ONE WEEK remains.  There is still SEW much more that can go!  Did I hit the 200 mark this week?

Take a look at my progress for Week Twelve:

I hoped that it would be significant, but there are a number of activities pulling my attention in other directions and organizing my closet doesn't count toward my totals when nothing left the house.  Today, I gave myself a good talking to and decided to go through my stash.

FINALLY!!!  Some progress in the studio...

34 Yds. fabric
58 FQs
61 Qtr. Yd. cuts of fabric
5 pc. non-quilting fabric
1 small bags of misc. scraps

Week 12 Total: 159/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total for Week 12:  318/100

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.

Deb @ Happy to be Scrappy commented the following after Week 11's post:

You are doing great! Clothes are a tough one for me too... but 2 went into the trash this week as I noticed a big stain on each when I put them on! Does that count? I really need to declutter but get overwhelmed easily. Maybe I'll do one drawer a day for a week and see what happens. Thanks for the inspiration.

I responded with the following:

Thanks, Deb, and kudos on parting with those stained shirts! Depending on the decluttering method you use, overwhelm can be a BIG issue. Narrowing in on one drawer per day may be just the ticket you need for a pain-free experience. If that doesn't work, try simply noticing a few items that you can add to the declutter box as you move through your home. That method often works to get me going.

Take a look at my progress for Week Eleven:

On TidyUp Tuesday this week I had errands, an appointment, a meeting and completely forgot that I needed to release this post.  Sorry about that!  There's not much to miss.

Here are the (few)  items that left the house...

1 shirt
1 art book
1 handkerchief
1 pen
1 swag bag

Week 11 Total: 5/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total for Week 11:  159/100

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.

Astrid @ Red Needle Quilts commented the following after Week 10's post:

Fabulous! More needs to be done here too.

I replied with the following:

Thanks, Astrid! Remember that every little bit helps. What are you finding to be the most challenging items to be decluttered?

She came back with this:

Most challenging to declutter? I find it hard to get rid of clothes. I have 'old' clothes that still fit and even if I haven't worn them in years, I find it hard to give them to charity. Now, I just have to! Days are getting cooler here and the other day I was looking for a thin sweater in the wardrobe. I didn't find it, even if I know it is there! Way too many clothes I don't wear! Sigh! lol
What do you find the most challenging?

The conversation continued with my response:

Clothes are tough for me too! I was looking for my 2nd swimsuit when packing for our trip to Florida. I couldn't find it anywhere! While searching for a few things for our trip to the mountains, I found it wedged into the closet between some dresses. It's definitely time to thin out the items I never choose to wear! Ugh!!!

Even though I hit my goal of 100 items out the door, I will continue to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I still need to free up MORE space for more creativity.  Stay with me as I aim for the 200 mark!

Here's my progress for Week Ten:

This week was slow going, as I headed off to and returned from recharging in the mountains.

I managed to get the following items out of the house...

1 bin of recycling from DH's shop
2 quilting rulers
1 dresser scarf
3 cuts of fabric
1 quilt pattern
2 product pkgs (saved for some unknown reason)
1 dress
1 t-shirt
1 pr leggings
1 sweater
8 pr chopsticks
1 kitchen knife (new in pkg)
1 pkg of plastic forks (we don't entertain enough to keep so many extras)
2 cardboard boxes
1 decorative wreath (trashed due to damage)

Week 10 Total: 27/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total for Week 10:  154/100

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.

Diann @ Little Penguin Quilts commented the following after Week 9's post:

24 yards of fabric - wow! Someone will think it's a treasure. We are decluttering our old electronics this week because there is an e-waste collection going on here on Thursday. We have quite a pile ready to go - old phones, laptops, VCRs, and more!

My response:

Nice work on the e-waste, Diann! About the fabric I gave away, treasure is exactly the word that my friend used when I gave her that bag of yardage.  :o))

There was also this from Cherie @ See More Quilts:

Stuff shuffling! That made me laugh out loud because I do shuffle stuff! In the case of the shirts, I think I need to let them leave the house.

I replied with the following:

As I told Terry @ Ongoing Projects, I'm ready for a really BIG purge to boost my numbers. It probably won't be this week, but I'll definitely keep plugging along.

The BIG project update from last week in case you missed it...

#100Days100ThingsDecluttered Project Total: 101/100!!!

Never fear...

I'm NOT stopping here!!  I will continue to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I still need to free up MORE space for more creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Nine:

I began working my way to the 200 item mark. We've passed the eight-week mark.  I'm still getting rid of the clutter for this year's challenge.  We were away, but I'm not giving up!

The following items left the house...

1 frayed computer cord
24 yards of fabric
1 rusted light fixture

Week 9 Total: 26/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total for Week 9:  127/100

No item filled box this week.  The electrical items went straight into the trash and the fabric went directly to a friend.

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.

Miss Pat (no blog) had the following to say after Week 8's post:

A friend from my Tai Chi class is helping me declutter in the attic (most of the stuff is my late husbands clutter and hoarding). Out went 8 metal file boxes and metal drawer units, a car seat only used once or twice when a grandson from Houston was here (11 years ago), more fabric, 8 Welch's jelly glasses and 10 coffee mugs. And lots of paper and miscellany. Phew.

My reply:

Oh, Pat! I'm so glad that you had a helper to work on the attic. You got some really good work done!

I was hoping to get WAY closer to the 100 item mark this week. We're past the six-week mark.  I am moving at a snail's pace in this year's challenge, but I'm not giving up!

The following items left the house...

1 light bulb (new in box, but broken on the shelf)
9 bath products
1 watch
1 wallet
11 cuts of fabric
1 graduation sash
4 boxes of stake tea
1 decorative tea tin
1 completed quilt
2 quilt panels
1 knit headband

Week 8 Total: 32/100

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.

Jeanne @ Loving Retirement had the following to say after Week 7's post:

As long as you are making progress, I don't think it matters how fast you progress. We moved out well over 2000 sheets of paper this week to a Shred Event. Not sure if that counts a 10 years or not! I'm thrilled to have those boxes gone.

My reply:

Congratulations, Jeanne! It's such a challenge to know when to let that stuff go. Paper clutter is the worst!

Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing shared her plan:

Clothing will be my focus in the next few weeks of destashing/passing on/recycling!

My response:

1 recently located random button from a previously disposed phone case

Week 7 Total: 5/100

Only trashed items this week. No filled box photos.

Thank you to those of you who take the time to encourage me in my decluttering efforts as I continue this challenge!  I appreciate those of you who have joined me in my quest.  Prompted by my last post, Miss Pat reported the following during Week 6:

I took 4 bags of fabric that I'm never going to use to the thrift shop and gave a bag of fabric scraps to a quilter who will use them. I'm still working on recycling lots of old magazines that I saved thinking I would someday have time to read them (not gonna happen). I threw out a contractor bag full of junk stuff from the attic (put there by my late husband who would never throw anything away, even if it didn't work anymore.
Pat

My response:

Nicely done, Pat! I find it challenging to part with magazines. Thanks for the reminder to check those axillary spaces! I'll have to remember.

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts as I kicked off this challenge!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along.  Quiltdivajulie @ Me & My Quilts - Exploring the Possibilities had the following to say:

A most excellent way to use the 100 Day Challenge!

My response...

Thanks, Julie! It works for me. We have SO MANY THINGS and still more that need to go!
This gives me a reason to remember that each week.

The 100 Day Project 2026 - #100Days100ThingsDecluttered - Week 3

Welcome to the 2026 edition of #100Days100ThingsDecluttered, a new mini-series here at The Joyful Quilter!!  I started The 100 Day Project last week.  I'm excited that I've committed to it, again.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I was hesitant to participate before last year.  I'll be releasing weekly updates on Tidy Up Tuesday for those of you who might be interested in seeing what goes out the door.

What did you say your project was, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  You can read about it HERE.  That link will tell you all about my project.

The gist of my focus...

Decluttering my home and studio in an effort to free up space for MORE creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Three:

I'm trying to identify a single item each day that can go.  If I miss a day or two, I try to gather a few items each day when I jump back in, as I find decluttering less overwhelming using this method.

I got rid of the following items:

1 cardboard box

7 T-shirts (from the offspring's old room)

1 bag of trash and broken items (collected from DH's shop)

Week 3 Total:  9/100

Updated 100 Day Project Total: 44/100

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts as I kicked off this challenge!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along.  Cherie @ See More Quilts commented by reporting her own decluttering progress:

I passed on a bag of mixed sized fabrics, from 2 yard cuts to 4” squares. By weight it was 6 yards total. In other areas I trashed 2 pair of used up shoes and mailed off a box of vintage McDonald’s Happy Meal toys to a youngster who is having fun with them as I type!

Way to go, Cherie!
