Scrap Attack 2018 - The Year in Review

Scrap Attack 2018, A Year of Serious Scrap Busting

That was the title of my opening post when I expressed my intentions to play along with Sarah from Confessions of a Fabric AddictShe introduced the challenge at the bottom of THIS POST.  As soon as I read about it, I decided that I really needed to participate!  My goal list was included HERE.

While I didn't join in Sarah's link-ups, I did report my progress on the blog monthly.  That's fine for my regular followers, but I thought it might be fun to show my success for the year in a single post.  Be warned, there were a few FAILS, as well.

Are you ready?!

I marked through each entry as it was chosen (starting in the 2nd half of the year), but removed the marks to allow you to see what each goal entailed.  Each month the goals received a CHECK!! or a FAIL!! when I reported my results.  I've included the month that each job was pulled and photos of the completed tasks for the year.

HERE is my Scrap Attack list:

1. Choose a quilt to donate and mail to Covered in Love!  (Chosen, but not mailed.)

2018 Rainbow Scrap Challenge - The Year in Review

DISCLAIMER:  I rarely release more than one post in a day, but there are a limited number of days remaining in the year.  For your viewing pleasure, I present...

2018 Rainbow Scrap Challenge - The Year in Review

If you saw my 2017 Rainbow Scrap Challenge - The Year in Review post, you might be even MORE surprised to see just how little RSC piecing I did during the last 12 months.  I had planned to continue past projects, but the reality of the situation is that I got a bit distracted some of the time.  I was down to just TWO blocks per month last year and this year I didn't even do that much!  Read on to see exactly what kept me busy, since it obviously wasn't blocks!

SEW...

Here is Angela's complete color list for 2018:

  • January - lighter and medium blues
  • February - purple and lavender
  • March - light green, lime, and yellow green
  • April - yellow and gold
  • May - pink and rose
  • June - aqua and turquoise
  • July - red and maroon
  • August - orange and brown
  • September - dark blue and black/ dark neutrals
  • October - dark green and sage

November and December were for catching up on colors you missed, adding colors your quilt(s) need, and finishing up the projects that may have arrived at that stage of the game.

How much progress did YOU make for the year, Joyful?

Well...

January started the year off with LIGHT and MEDIUM BLUE...

I used scraps of BLUE to make a block for this Donation Quilt:

I worked on a large Quilted Basket in BLUE:

ONE Tiny Nine in BLUE, too:

While not scraps, I did some unusual BLUE sewing...

... You can even get a glimpse of my MEDIUM BLUE nails!

February PURPLE and LAVENDER...

The binding on this scrappy Quilted Yarn Bowl uses BOTH of the RSC Colors of the Month:

Of course, I got a PURPLE manicure and knit with PURPLE yarn:

March LIGHT/LIME/YELLOW GREEN...

This scrappy Quilted Jacket is a wardrobe staple during March:

I made a scrappy panel and incorporated YELLOW GREEN:

Needleb got the color cue:

I played with LIME GREEN scraps and sported GREEN nails:

April YELLOW and GOLD...

Stitching was done on some of my smallest GOLD scraps:

My version of Libby's Magical Mystery incorporated YELLOW:

Bits of YELLOW/GOLD progress:

A stack of scraps and a bright YELLOW manicure:

I did Old GOLD on my toenails for something a little different:

May PINK and ROSE...

This was one of my Scrap Attack goals:

Fully embracing the Color of the Month, I used PINK yarn:

Threebagsfulled got the color memo:

In honor of the Color of the Month, I chose a ROSE shade:

PINK scraps were used in the making of this Quilted Yarn Bowl:

One of my Scrap Attack goals was to work in the Color of the Month for the RSC.  I pieced these scrappy HSTs in PINK and showed off my pretty PINK nail polish:

June AQUA and TURQUOISE...

I used a scrap to load a donation quilt on the frame:

Tracy was channeling the Color of the Month:

The lighting is bad, but Needleb got the color cue, too:

I sewed with tiny bits of AQUA in my IMPROV Challenge:

I saved my TURQUOISE scraps to trim up at the end of the month:

July RED and MAROON...

From a bright RED manicure...

... To quilting for "Christmas in July" for my Scrap Attack goal, it just so happens that RED is the Color of the Month:

Those Christmas prints turned out like this at the end of the month:

There were scraps of RED in this Tie Quilt that I finished for the Summer 2018 (Ravelry) UFO Club:

August ORANGE and BROWN...

This month's Scrap Attack goal aligned with the Color of the Month, so I made an ORANGE block from some of my smallest fabric scraps.  It will be another Tiny Nine:

Oops!!  I acquired MORE orange scraps...

... And narrowly avoided buying even MORE fabric which incorporated the color ORANGE:

September DARK BLUE and BLACK/DARK NEUTRALS...

There were PLENTY of DARK BLUE scraps remaining after cutting the shirts for this T-Quilt:

Silly me!!  I forgot that I'm supposed to USE the scraps to meet my goals, not just make more.  LOL!!

I did use a small bunch of DARK BLUE scraps in the making of a batch of Quilted Mug Rugs for gifts to give out at Into the Wool:

There was also a DARK BLUE manicure to enjoy while ripping out some errant stitches:

Graylagran got this month's color cue:

October DARK GREEN and SAGE...

The binding and lining of this Quilted Yarn Bowl qualified:

Both DARK GREEN and SAGE were used in the Mug Rug:

I also enjoyed a DARK GREEN pedicure this month:

There are some DARK GREEN and SAGE scraps in my beautiful new quilt made by Nicole at Handwrought Quilts:

GREEN scraps in another Quilted Mug Rug:

Even more GREEN bits were included in the Tall Thread Catcher:

Or is it a beverage holder?  You decide:

November CATCHING UP or FINISHING...

I used some scraps to make  yet another Quilted Mug Rug:

These orphan blocks included DARK GREEN batik strips:

That piece grew into a Large (multi-functional) Quilted Bowl:

The bowl can be a Large Quilted Yarn Bowl:

It is the right size for a Large Thread Catcher or Tool Holder:

It can even serve as a hat, in a pinch:

December CATCHING UP or FINISHING...

I worked on pressing a rainbow of scraps:

Zoom in to check out the remnants of my Cloudy with a chance of Rainbows manicure left over from November!!  :o))

They grew into this rainbow panel:

Amazing how different they look when quilted:

Oh!  Were you hoping to see what this turned out to be???

Sorry...  It's too soon to let the cat out of the bag.  :P

Click HERE for Angela's final LINK PARTY of the year, in case you missed it.  I'm SEW glad that she will be hosting the 2019 Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I still want to complete my RSC15, RSC16, and RSC17 (yes! you read that right!) quilts.

I absolutely LOVE participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  During 2018, I found that frequently concentrated on my Scrap Attack Challenge, instead.  Oops!  Guess I should stick with just ONE per year when it comes to quilting challenges.  Otherwise, I'm spread a bit too thin for success.  Come back soon to see how that OTHER challenge went this year.

Until next time...
Quilt SCRAPPY!!!
