ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 13

Welcome to Week 13 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week's sewing was all about finishing up some small projects.  There may even be a bit of GREEN sewing.

Let's go to the video tape...

Wait!  Maybe we should start with what happened after yesterday's ScrapHappy Saturday post went live.

I had scheduled a stop at the Junior Quilter's to drop off her Easter dress:

I thrifted this name brand beauty several years ago and missed the gifting occasion for the original intended recipient.  Things have a way of working out.  JQ absolutely LOVES it!!

Are you sure that it's the middle of March?!  It's COLD outside, but I still did a grocery swap with Knittingsuek:

Needleb stopped by to drop off quilts:

GREEN mask by Tiffany and GREEN shawl by Hilary. Crafty friends are THE BEST!!

About an hour later she came back by, but that's a story for another day.  I hope you won't mind waiting.  It might have something to do with my new Creative Grids HRT Ruler, inspired by the work of Cynthia @ Quilting is more fun than Housework:

Project QUILTING, Season 12, The final reveal was released:

Now, we can move on...

SUNDAY - A new post went live for Sew Some Love Sunday.  You caught a glimpse of the highlighted quilt just moments ago.

The H2H Comfort Quilt Challenge is in full swing.  I added another string to each of my blocks:

MONDAY - Mini Monday and the Happy Dance.  Here's a preview:

Today was a studio day.  I sewed nearly all day long.  Here's the part I can show you.  Fortunately, there's a tiny bit of GREEN included for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

The rest?  You'll have to wait until Thursday to see.  Maybe I can give you a little peek.  Hmm... This is the best I can do.  ALL of these threads were used in today's quilting marathon:

TUESDAY - I released a new Guest Blogger post this morning.  Once Jane's post was done, I went up to spend some time in the studio trimming another step on my H2H21 quilt:

This afternoon, I Zoomed with LeeAnna:

I actually did some machine stitching during the call, continuing with this scrappy red pin cushion project, among other (secret) sewing:

WEDNESDAY - I worked on finishing up my post for tomorrow's Salt and Sand Blog Hop.  I'm excited to hear what YOU have to say about my project, as it's somewhat of a departure from my norm.  Here's a preview:

THURSDAY - During the middle of the night last night, I scheduled the release of my Salt and Sand Blog Hop post.

This morning, twelve quilting friends met for ZoomBEE:

Once that was done, worked on finishing up my Stay At Home Round Robin:

Afterwards, I enjoyed some scrappy play in a (Blue) GREEN kind of way:

FRIDAY - At o-dark-thirty, the March 2021 Table Scraps Link Party went live.  I posted my project last week, but there's a review in today's post.

This morning's ZoomKNIT group:

After the meeting, I released another Guest Blogger post.  Be sure to check out Miss Pat's latest table runner for the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  And remember, the Link Party is open all weekend.

Later in the day...

I, apparently, started a new series of mini quilts.  More on that in next week's Mini Monday post.  Here's a preview:

SATURDAY - LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  I'll join in once Angela @ So Scrappy releases her post.  There should be SEW many GREEN projects with the end of the month approaching!  Will you be joining me for a look-see?

Until next time...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 8 - Miss Pat's Spring GREEN

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  We're on the approach to the end of March.  It's been SEW nice to see that friends out in Blogland have been finishing up their 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entries for this month.  Entrants have begun joining the Link Party.  :o))

Today, I've got a treat for you.  Miss Pat is here with her March entry.  As an Instagram user, she had some trouble linking up with the Challenge, so opted to have me post her project.

Pat made the following table runner in GREEN for March's Rainbow Scrap Challenge (as requested, but not required.)

Here's her story...

My first plan was to do something with a St. Patrick's Day theme, but I managed to procrastinate long enough to put an end to that option.

Finally decided to go simple and strip pieced a collection of green scraps with some flowers thrown in.  Finished it with a striped binding.  I tried Amy's (@amyscreativeside) tip for putting on binding without pressing it in half first.  It worked like a charm, saving time and burnt fingers.  I used thermolam as the batting

It measures 12' by 26 inches and will go on a small chest in the hallway.  No picture of it there since it's too dark in that spot to get a good photo and too gloomy outside to brighten it up.

Pat

SEW pretty...

Thanks for sharing your springy GREEN table runner with us, Pat!  As noted earlier, I'm posting her entry for the March TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.  I will gladly do the same for others who run into problems with joining the Link Party.

Share the quilty love for Pat's project in the comments below.  I know you enjoyed seeing her table runner as much as I did!  Thank you, again, Miss Pat.

Link Party Reminder...

For your convenience, the March TABLE SCRAPS Link Party will be open from 12:01 AM on Friday, March 26th - 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 28 (EST).  I'm SEW looking forward to seeing what everyone has made with their "table scraps."  Please join us the THIS WEEKEND for the Link-up.  Remember readers, if YOU have a Table Scraps project to share, but no blog to share it on, drop me an email with photos and the story of your entry.

Until next time...

No blog?  No problem, you will be able to have your scrappy table runners/toppers hosted here on The Joyful Quilter.  Just pop me an email with your name and a photo of your completed project and I will add it to a Guest Blogger post.

First and foremost, I want to publicly apologize to Jane in Australia and Connie W. for neglecting to link-up their posts with the February 2021 Table Scraps Link Party.  Due to technical difficulties (read operator error) I was only allowed ONE link from my blog.  I will be linking those YELLOW projects with March's GREEN ones.  Of course, you all know that using the Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month is only a suggestion... NOT a requirement for participation.

From our participants...

I found this sweet mini mat at the Flamingo Toes when exploring the link from Britt_Quilts last month:

Then Nann @ With Strings Attached was back with a Scrappy Table Topper link and one for FREE Placemat Patterns.

Here's an idea for Strings that I got from Julie @ JulieKQuilts:

Got favorites???

Email me , if you have a "go to" runner or topper pattern.  I'll add it to a future post.  Thanks!

Where's the table covering, Joyful???

I'm getting to that.  Since it was GREEN month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I pulled out this Quilted Scrap Basket:

You can find the tutorial HERE.

SEW...

What happened next was a little bit of cutting and some sewing:

It went fairly fast this month.  You might have seen the details in THIS POST a couple of weeks ago.

Here is my March TABLE SCRAPS Challenge piece...

Salt and Sand Blog Hop - Day Four - My STOP!!!

Welcome!!  Ocean colors.  What's not to love?  Since I've had a project in mind, I'm hoping this might be just the push I need to get it from the design phase to the quilt phase.

What ARE you talking about, Joyful???

In her announcement, Carol from Just Let Me Quilt writes:

I will be hosting the "Salt and Sand" blog hop March 22- 26. The challenge is to sew something in ocean/sand colors and/or ocean creatures. This one should be fun, too...well, I think they are all fun!

Here is my fabric pull...

... Which sat on my "design board" for several weeks before I began:

This is my plan:

I was inspired by Karen Echmeier's work in her Accidental Landscapes book and associated videos.

My process...

Last week, with my toes in the sand I began by doing free cut curves, but no folded seam allowances for finished applique.  That's how I roll:

Then, I waded into the surf...

... Before fixing my eyes on the horizon and the sky beyond:

Once the pieces were situated...

...  I pinned everything in place:

Prior to going to the machine, I added (and removed) a couple of "blender" waves, as I wasn't convinced they worked:

Monday was the day that I finally worked up the courage to stitch it all down (which is good since the Hop has started)...

... With the help of the beachiest threads on the rack:

Again, I walked out on the sand...

Inching my way into the waves required a plan...

... And SEW many thread changes...

... As the waves crashed into the shore:

With the horizon sewn down, it was time to stitch my way across the sky:

The two shades of blue that I chose required reinforcements and more thread was added after seeing the puckers in the photo below:

That was followed by squaring up the piece:

Thanks to Needleb, you don't need to feel seasick, as she reminded me that the horizon should be level:

When it came time for finishing the piece, I decided to attempt color matching the binding...

... Which was just as challenging as I remembered it to be:

As I always say...

DONE is better than perfect:

What's THIS, Joyful???

That is the beginning of my PRIZE giveaway!!!

Because, as you may or may not know, EVERY Blog Hop is reason for a giveaway, in my book. As the winner, YOU will get to choose if you would like me to transform these scraps into a pin cushion, a mug rug, or a small framed quilt art piece.

DISCLAIMER:  The fabrics shown above will be used (possibly in combination with other color-appropriate scraps) in the making of said prize.  That prize may or may not end up looking anything like the layout shown above.

How do I qualify to win the prize, Joyful???

In order to get your name in the prize drawing, you MUST tell me the name or location of your favorite beach.  The winner will be chosen on Wednesday, March 31st @ 9 PM (EDT) from your qualifying comments.

Sorry!!  The drawing is CLOSED!!!

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 7 - Jane from Australia

Welcome to the next edition of the Guest Blogger series!!  I'm here to share the email that I received today.  Since we are heading toward the end of the month, I'm sure you can guess what it included.

March's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry from Jane, who had the following to say about her project...

Hi Joy,
I know I’m a bit early this month, but we leave for Brisbane tomorrow (Tuesday) for hubby’s eye surgery and I didn’t want to miss the chance to post.

My March runner does have green (!) but mainly butterflies 🦋 .
Some years ago we traveled through Queensland and visited an amazing butterfly house near the Atherton Tablelands. The butterfly tea light is from there.
A little later I found some beautiful butterfly fabric in a patchwork shop. This is now a runner on my table!!

The “carnival glass” bowl belonged to my grandmother, and the porcelain figurine was made by me in a previous craft life. You can see my grandmother’s treadle Singer sewing machine in the corner. It still works.

I enjoy reading your blog and have no idea how you fit so much into your life.
Jane

What a great way to feature that bold print!!!

Thank you for sharing your lovely table runner with my readers, Jane!  I'm happy to be able to post your project here on The Joyful Quilter blog and hope to add it to this month's Link Party.  (Apologies for February's technical difficulties that prevented me from adding your last project!)

Share the quilty love for Jane's project in the comments below.  I know you enjoyed seeing her Butterfly table runner as much as I did!  Thank you, again, Jane.

Link Party Reminder...
