The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 24 - Connie on the Go

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  The other day, I made it a point to tell Connie how much I missed seeing the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entries she has been working on.  Yesterday, I heard back from her.  She's been busy for the last while, so I was glad to see that she has been back at her machine.

Her report follows...

Thank you, Joy. I've missed being an active participant in the challenge. Life is settling down a little, so I'm back into the scraps. July and August colors were combined. I finished and donated two placemats using scraps of teal, neutral and brown-black:

Bonnie Hunter's string pumpkin quilt pattern was scaled down to fit the RV dinette table. This might be handy should we make a trip next month as has been tentatively planned:

Several possibilities for the  greens of October's RSC are swirling in my head. I picked up the Ziploc bags of greens, neutrals and a daisy print from the free table at Comfort Quilts. Hopefully, I will get a Table Scrap project completed in the upcoming two weeks:

This has been a great challenge. I have enjoyed all the posted project photos and have received so much inspiration from you and your followers!
Happy Halloween,
Connie

Sew Some Love Sunday - Positivity QAL - The Block Drive - Exhausted

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  The last update was a couple of months ago.  Our "Piecing Fairy" was busy with other projects and I've been busy moving house, so not much was happening with the Positivity QAL Block Drive here at The Joyful Quilter.

Until recently...

I heard from Maggie last week, but already had an LWR post scheduled.  She has been sewing up at the lake and had good new for us.

Take a look at what Maggie made...

Not ONE, but TWO more quilt tops for the Positivity QAL:

Yay!!  These two finish up the last 96 blocks from the Positivity Block Drive that I hosted here and on the Quilters Knitting group on Ravelry in conjunction with the Positivity QAL hosted by Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts.  We've missed the finishing deadline, but the need for quilts is ongoing.  Our quilts, whenever they are finished, will be welcomed gratefully.

Sending out a special THANK YOU to ALL who donated blocks!!  These two bring our total to SIX quilt tops to benefit the Mercyful Quilts program hosted by Bernie @ Needle and Foot Fine Fabrics.

THREE from Preeti and Maggie
ONE more from the Quilting Knitters and my generous readers

Until next time...
Do SEW much good!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 44

Welcome to Week 44 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  We've got company, so YOU get an abbreviated look at my week.

SUNDAY - Sew Some Love Sunday and a trip to the old house for another load of stuff.  Traffic was a bit of a nightmare!  This is the only bit of Light/Bright GREEN for the day, but hopefully not the only bit for the week:

MONDAY - Mini Monday

TUESDAY - Tidy Up Tuesday and a prize drawing!!  It was also my Monthly Evening Bee meeting night (which I didn't remember until 5PM.)  Members came in dribs and drabs, but overall, it was a small gathering on Zoom:

Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - ZoomBEE met this morning, as this week's hostess just had her COVID vaccine booster yesterday and wasn't sure how she would feel today.  The following members were in attendance:

Without, then with attendee number ten.  Oops!

FRIDAY - In the wee hours of the morning, the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge/Link Party  for October went live here on the blog.  If YOU have a scrappy table covering, feel free to join the fun!

ZoomKNIT - LIVE @ Beth's.  That's me in the middle sporting Bright GREEN for my friends at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

After picking up a quick lunch and doing some cleaning at the old house, the truck from ReStore arrived to pick-up our This End Up family room furniture.  There's no place for it in the new house.  I got back in the car to see this yellow light illuminated on the dashboard.  Any VW owners out there have any idea what it means???  Never mind...

... Google to the rescue:

VW Passat Lights Fault Warning Light
Lights Fault
Warning light name: VW Passat lights fault warning light.
Description: This warning light comes on due to a fault in the vehicle lighting. Check all lights and change bulb if required. This may also indicate a fault in the dynamic cornering light.
SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!!

No blog?  No problem, you will be able to have your scrappy table runners/toppers hosted here on The Joyful Quilter.  Just pop me an email with your name/state and a photo of your completed project and I will add it to a follow-up post.

From our participants...

Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts provided the following LINK for the Beanstalk Table Runner @ Scrapdash.

I found the following from Sarah Goer Quilts thanks to her participation in #WIPsBeGone with Leanne @ Devoted Quilter.  Sarah will be working on her Tic Tac Toe quilt by Alyce @ Blossom Heart Quilts.

This runner is another little gem found by Kat.

Got favorites???

Email me , if you have a "go to" runner or topper pattern.  I'll add it to a future post.  Thanks!

Where's the table covering, Joyful???

Well, if you read my blog often, you may have seen THIS POST, which was released last week.  This month's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry served double duty, but I'll post a few pictures for those of you who have just happened by...

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 23 - Jane from Australia

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s) here at The Joyful Quilter!!  The end of another month is quickly approaching.  Jane emailed this morning.  Right on schedule!  She is SEW good about submitting her TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.

Her October entry is another beauty...

A very modern looking runner:

This is the story that Jane shared along with her photo...

A few months ago I made a quilt for my husband’s ophthalmologist who has been marvellous to him/us. I knew his favourite colour was blue, and remembered a quilt I had seen a lot of years ago. I have no idea when/where so can’t give any credit.

As the type of piecing was not usual for me, I drew and printed paper templates and pieced directly onto them. I made enough blocks for a row and it lived on our table for a week or so while we decided we liked it enough to go ahead.

After the quilt was finished and gifted, my husband asked me to actually make a table runner similar to the test run and now it is also finished. I only made 5 blocks as the length of the 8 blocks in the queen size quilt was too long for the table.

Thanks again Joy for the challenge and for posting my runner each month.  I have a few more ideas darting around for the next couple of months. The challenge has kept me on track so far…
Jane

Share the quilty love for Jane's project in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her stunning modern (quilt and) runner as much as I did!  Thank you for sending photos for the blog, Jane.  I'm happy to post them to inspire others to USE those scraps we quilters are SEW busy generating with each project we create!

Link Party REMINDER...

The October 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Link Party will be open from  Friday, October 29th @ 12:01 AM - MONDAY, November 1st @ 11:59 PM.  Will YOU be joining in the scrappy fun?

Tidy Up Tuesday and the Masala Box Prize Patrol

Welcome to the latest edition of Tidy Up Tuesday!!  Last week, I posted a new edition of Wonderful Wednesday featuring my version of Preeti's Masala Box quilt pattern, shown below on my porch swing:

Now, I'm here with an announcement because when I participate in a Blog Hop, there is generally a prize drawing...

But, since this was an informal Blog Hop, I wasn't sure that there would be a prize.  Lucky for you, Preeti has offered a FREE pattern to ONE LUCKY READER!!!  In my quilt reveal post, I mentioned that I would be drawing the winner on Tuesday, October 26th @ noon (EDT.)

Guess what???

That's today.  :o))

Special thanks to Preeti for sponsoring this prize!!

And the winner is...

Deb A.

Congratulations, Deb!!!  She has been notified via email.  Deb blogs @ Happy to be Scrappy.  Stop by and let her know that I sent you.    Don't forget to visit Preeti's Etsy shop to get your own copy of her fast and fun new pattern.

Until next time...

Mini Monday - Guild Challenge - Happiness Is

Welcome to another edition of Mini Monday!!!  Most of you had a chance to see bits and pieces of my 2021 Guild Challenge project over the last several weeks, but this is the full-on "How It Was Made" post for my records (and your viewing pleasure.)

Happiness Is...

My response to that prompt was the following:

A rainbow of colors and a handful of scraps!!!

I started with Light/Bright GREEN for October's Rainbow Scrap Challenge Color of the Month and added in the other Modern rainbow colors of bright pink, yellow, aqua, and purple required by the challenge guidelines:

I did have to...

... Do some switching around...

... To get the color balance that I was looking for:

My inspiration...

... Came from a link provided by Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts:

One of her links took me to the tutorial page @ I'm Feelin' Crafty...

... Where this Low Volume, Bright Contrast Crosses Postage Stamp Block for do Good Stitches caught my eye as the perfect starting point for use with my colorful scraps, along with a baggie of black and white prints which (if memory serves me correctly) I believe was a gift from Wanda @ Exuberant Color:

I changed things up to create a rectangular design:

Ultimately, I decided that the weight of the black plus would look better at the bottom of my little quilt:

More changes happened prior to assembly...

I really wanted to use this sweet snail print, but it didn't work:

This tonal MIGHT work...

... But what about this floral???

Well, THIS one certainly doesn't fit with the other green squares!!!

The purple...

Needed some consideration, as well:

The black Plus also needed a bit of work, too:

My good friend @britt_quilts helped with both of those selections and other Instagram friends got a preview of the following photo as a bit of a teaser.  It's my stack of squares, all ready to be sewn:

A week before the deadline, assembly began...

... But not without one final change to the squares in the corners:

This small pile of (leftover) scraps is all that remained on my cutting table from my original fabric pull:

Once I tucked those away, pressing came next...

... And was quickly followed by row assembly:

After a final press, my challenge entry was layered for...

... Some simple straight line quilting:

Apparently, as I was applying the binding I was also (unknowingly) playing a game of Bobbin Chicken, which I won:

This is my completed 12.5" x 15.5" mini quilt, which was well within the "No More Than 24" On a Side" Challenge rule:

Here is a close-up of the darling scraps included in my project:

And one last look, as it appeared on the table at our 1st in-person Quilt Guild meeting in a year and a half:

This project was also on my Fall 2021 (Ravelry) UFO Club List.  Check mark on another finish.  Whew!  What a good feeling that is.

Until next time...
Quilt for joy!!!
