ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC20 - Week 47

Welcome to Week 47 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  November is drawing to a close.  You KNOW what that means, don't you?  This year, it means that I'm ready to have some fun in this month's alternate colorway... I'm ready to get out my MULTI-COLOR prints and play!

Well...

There is that ONE looming LIGHT Neutral project in the works:

Unfortunately, with how chunky it is, I've had some trouble remaining engaged.  I think it's time to bring out the rotary cutter (or else dig into the scrap bag, again.

Maybe THIS week...

SUNDAY - It was a gorgeous summer-like Fall day!  I went out to do some gardening.  When I came inside, I was tired and hungry.  Later, I decided to sort through the scrap bag that I got a week or so ago.  The tall kitchen trash bag contained LOTS of goodies!  I'm SEW excited that (thanks to Ruth S.) I won't have to make binding when my LIGHT Neutral basket has been made:

As the sun began its descent, I finally delivered this special pillow to The Junior Quilter:

My sweet little recipient was thrilled and couldn't resist a hug:

What's that on her face?  Oh!  She had been painting her face with her mother's makeup before I arrived.  LOL!!

MONDAY - Today, I released a new edition of Mail Call Monday.

This evening, ZoomGUILD met tonight with approximately 50 attendees.  Our speaker was quilt artist Christine Hager-Braun @ Soular Power Fabric Art:

TUESDAY - This week's Quilt Talk on Zoom with LeeAnna happened today:

Afterwards, I got a start on this scrappy wonder of Carol's:

WEDNESDAY - I continued with the quilting:

Met with a friend of a friend who dropped off two quilts to have their turn on the longarm:

THURSDAY - It's time for my Weekly Quilt Group to gather for ZoomBEE.  These 10 quilting friends joined in the fun:

I finished off Carol's quilt and she came to pick it up:

FRIDAY - It's hard to believe that the work week is coming to a close.  My day consisted of ZoomKNIT with these friends, plus a couple others who joined in after the photo was taken...

Mail Call Monday - What's in the Box(es)?!

Welcome to a new edition of Mail Call Monday!!  It's been a while and today, I just couldn't resist.  If YOU sent a package, it's going to be  little while before I open them.

Perhaps, YOU recognize one of them.  If so, please know that I am looking forward to opening your box.  Once it's spent some time in the Quarantine Zone, I will happily do just that.  In the meantime, you won't have to wonder about your shipment's arrival.

Sew Some Love Sunday - LWR - Another One Finished

Welcome to another issue of Sew Some Love Sunday!!!  I'm back with the second quilt finish for the ongoing Lutheran World Relief Mission Quilt drive here at The Joyful Quilter.

This one was truly a collaborative effort...

Fabrics for the top and binding came from Wendy @ The Constant Quilter.

The quilt top and backing were assembled by Maggie:

The layers were sandwiched with batting thanks to Suzanne in Alaska and the quilting... 

... And binding were done by Joy:

Jo's Country Junction

If you visit occasionally, you may recall that she's the one who inspired this Mission Quilt project in the first place.  (You can read the first post in the series HERE.)  I never would have guessed the journey that Jo's post would inspire.  It's been a true testament to community, philanthropy, and friendship.  Here is a LINK to the tab containing links to all of the posts.  The page at the top of my blog is updated regularly (meaning... whenever I remember to do so.)

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC20 - Week 46

Welcome to Week 46 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  While many of the RSC Quilters have gone into finishing mode, I chose to work through some of my LIGHT Neutral scraps this month.  At least, for the first half of the month.

Let's see how that worked out this week...

SUNDAY - Last Saturday, I shared this photo and I thought you might like a better look at those LIGHT Neutral projects:

At the top of the photo above, the start of this month's Gallery Wire Mini was waiting to be pressed:

In the center of the photo, you will see a stack of Crumb blocks which became the now-pressed units of the panel-in-progress for November's Quilted Scrap Basket Challenge that I am participating in with Judy @ Busy Hands are Happy Hands:

The project at the bottom of the photo was begun after watching a Scrap Busting Pillow Project video from Jordan Fabrics on YouTube.  Donna grabbed a handful of scraps and started sewing.  I was inspired to do something similar with my own scraps and created the beginnings of this month's Kitchen Quilt:

MONDAY - Household chores, gardening, and paperwork filled the bulk of my day.  I was able to quilt the last bit of Maggie's 2nd Lutheran World Relief quilt:

TUESDAY - During a break yesterday, I found that I had been featured on the SereneKnitty (29:11) video podcast.  My friend Tracy was sharing her current knitting project and gave a shout-out (Thanks, T!!) for my Custom Quilted Yarn Bowls.  She has two of them and one of the projects she shared was housed in the larger of the two  Tracy has a basket for single-skein projects and another for multi-skein projects:

This morning I made good progress on sewing up some of my LIGHT Neutral scraps:

WEDNESDAY - This morning was filled with grocery processing and laundry.  Just after lunch, Carol stopped by to drop off a quilt for the longarm:

This afternoon, I enjoyed a Zoom call with LeeAnna:

While waiting for meeting time, I prepared binding for Maggie's second LWR Mission Quilt using a chunk from the fabric sent by Wendy @ The Constant Quilter...

... And wound it during our chat:

A new edition of Wonderful Wednesday was released this evening.  Late yesterday afternoon, I finished this month's Gallery Wire mini.  Here is a preview:

THURSDAY - My Weekly Quilt Group went back to our ZoomBEE meetings this week.  These friends all joined in, along with one more, but I neglected to take an updated photo:

After the meeting, I prepared the next client quilt for the longarm:

Once I was done with lunch, I decided to apply the binding to the next LWR Mission Quilt...

After tea time, I actually stitched the binding down:

Before bed, I got a start on quilting this month's Kitchen Quilt:

FRIDAY - ZoomKNIT met this morning with these six knitters enjoying a couple of hours together knitting and chatting:

SATURDAY - I can't believe how fast the weeks pass!  You KNOW what today is, don't you???  It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over on Angela's So Scrappy blog.  How many of the RSC Quilters will be working in LIGHT Neutrals?  Let's go see.

Design Floor Friday - {Not So} Boring Beige

Welcome to another edition of Design Floor Friday!!  Today, I'm here to share what began about this time last week. It happened like this...

After dinner, I was poking around on YouTube when I happened upon a String Quilting video tutorial from Donna @ Jordan Fabrics.  The project looked interesting, so I watched her grab a handful of scraps and make the pillow project.

IMMEDIATELY after watching the video, I just HAD to go dig in my LIGHT Neutral scraps make a start on one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects for November:

That initial layout got revamped in the light of day:

I opted to insert the stacked piece into the string section:

The chunkier bits got slimmed down:

Oh!  That's SEW much better:

I owe Ruth S. a BIG thank you!!  This piece is layered with batting straight out of last week's scrap bag from her:

Then came the quilting...

Well, first came the choosing of thread:

I decided to use them all:

Pinning happened next:

Followed by some stitching in the ditch for stabilization:

Then, I got a wild hair...

... And added a bunch of texture quilting in the wider, as well as, the pieced strips of the quilt:

Just LOOK at that amazing texture in the late afternoon sun:

Check out the texture on the cutting mat, while I was trying to determine if I should square the piece or leave it in its natural (wonky) improv state, with a strange curved edge, as shown below:

Alas, my perfectionism got the better of me:

The binding presented it's own unique challenge...

What would YOU do if one WOF 3.5" strip wasn't enough to get around your new wall hanging?  Choose another fabric??  Not me!!  I opted to cut it in half, a mere 1.75" and do my Go To double-fold binding method, exchanging my normal quarter-inch seam with an eighth-inch seam.  Worked like a charm:

I am pleased to present my completed mini by the freshly trimmed shrubbery in our front garden:

It finishes at 11.5 x 12 inches...

 ... And will serve as this month's Kitchen Quilt:

There's a bit of a funny story that goes along with the quilting, but I won't rat out my good friend Needleb.  Let's just say I got a really good laugh and leave it at that. (Love ya, B!!)

I will ask just one question:
