Scrap Attack Tuesday - September Job Pull

Welcome to another edition of Scrap Attack Tuesday!!  I'm here to reveal my goals for the month of September.  (Late, as is the way of things at the moment!)  I'm hoping the job pull is kind to me, but  I'm running out of the "easy" stuff.  Let's see what happens...

I'm going to be gone for a week and a half this month.  That won't leave a lot of time for attacking my scraps.  I'll see what I can do.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC18 - Week 37

Welcome to Week 37 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Angela, our hostess, assigned DARK BLUE for September's Color of the Month.  I painted my nails to match and grabbed a bag of scraps to work on that incorporated the color:

Some weeks are more productive than others.  Here's how this one panned out...

SUNDAY - Found that Cynthia at Quilting is More fun than Housework is hosting:

Time to start digging through and sorting out items to offer!!  Hmm... What will it be THIS time around???

MONDAY - Since it's dark BLUE month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I thought I'd share the beautiful table mat from Chantel of At the Corner of Scraps and Quilts that I get to enjoy daily:

There's a hurricane barreling down on our area.  It's not due until Thursday night into Friday morning, yet they've already canceled classes for surrounding universities beginning Wednesday afternoon.  Everyone is in one of two modes... preparation or denial.  Many of my readers will be affected.  Stay safe, everyone!!

WEDNESDAY - If you missed the release of the fabric requirements for Alycia's A8 Mosaic Mystery Quilt last week, head over now!!  (Note: She has since posted Clue #1.)  Her Mysteries are always well written and fast to make.  My own A6 is hiding out under the longarm machine waiting for quilting.  Here's hoping that A8 will be able to join it in 6 weeks or so!

In the meantime, I stopped by DeeDee's house, at her request.  She is clearing out a BIG bunch of fabric from her studio.  Others have already taken a number of yards.  Here is my haul:

Here is a HUGE thank you for your generous gift, DeeDee!!!  I looked through and feel like I've won the lottery.  I've already put a portion of the fabric to work.  (Unspecified) Cabin gifts for Into the Wool Retreat.  Here's hoping my cabinmates like them!

THURSDAY - Cynthia posted the Fall 2018 Quilty Orphan Adoption event.  It's open now through September 15th.  Decide on an orphan now and you'll still have time to participate!!

FRIDAY - A quick search came up with ?? items for Cynthia's Quilty Orphan Adoption event.  Read about that HERE.  That is IF the hurricane isn't/wasn't causing trouble for our internet!!

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day over at So Scrappy.  She hosts the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Go see all the dark BLUE (or dark neutral) projects on the go.

This project is draped across the longarm quilting machine.  All it needs is binding, but I have a special application planned.  It incorporates several darker shades of BLUE:

If we have power, in the wake of Hurricane Florence, I will be visiting the other RSC Quilters later today.  If not, I'll be here twiddling my thumbs.  :P

Design Floor Friday - Quilty Orphan Edition

Welcome to a long overdue edition of Design Floor Friday!!  I'm actually not planning a quilt.  I'm planning to get rid of some quilting items.  Well, I was...

You see, Cynthia is hosting her Fall 2018 Quilty Orphan Adoption event over at Quilting is More Fun than Housework.  I went upstairs with the intention of gathering entrants, but found that I just didn't have it in me.

Hurricane Florence is just 30 miles away, having reared her ugly head in Raleigh about an hour ago.  (2 PM EDT, as reported by DS1, who lives over there.)  I couldn't concentrate on my intended task.

I turned to a bit of cleaning by putting away some DARK NEUTRAL thread (along with some other cones) that my friend Sfgwife gave me a few weeks ago.  They've been rolling around the back of the car and I figured now was as good a time as any to put THESE away:

In the cleaning, I came upon a block that was only partially laid out.  Onto the (design) floor it went.  The baggie of pieces and parts were located and I quickly completed the design:

Pretty, huh?

Bonus points for working in dark BLUE for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  :o))

Wonderful Wednesday - DOQ Donation Quilt Workshop

Welcome to another edition of Wonderful Wednesday!!  On Thursday, of course!!  This post will highlight the fun I had over the weekend (a couple of weekends ago.) . I'm running a bit behind.

Members of all three parts of my Quilt Bee (morning, evening, and weekend groups within the family) came together to make charity quilts for our local Quilt Guild to distribute to those in need.

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC18 - Week 36

Welcome to Week 36 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  The festivities of last weekend are in the past.  The Labor Day holiday (US) is over and life is returning to "business as usual."

The week flowed by...

SUNDAY - The family brunch was delightful... Then the party moved to the bride's parent's temporary home.  We were gone.  All.  Day.  LONG!!!  It was good to be able to spend time with various family members who passed through during the afternoon and those those remaining enjoyed a low-effort dinner for 10.

MONDAY - Knit Group was followed by quilting with Needleb.  Afterwards, I spent some time with my family.  It was the BEST possible way to spend the holiday.

I worked on my IMPROV Challenge quilt.  Don't tell the Quilt Police that I used my ruler:

The expansion of the blocks is complete and now I wish I had stuck with the on-point setting.  Ugh!  Decisions are hard!!  :o((

I finished up my Scrap Attack Tuesday post and released it early, as I'm not fond of releasing more than one post on any given day.  There's another post in the works for tomorrow.

TUESDAY - Nothing much on the agenda for the day.  I did spend time helping out a friend.  She's on a deadline and needed reinforcements.  I was happy to be of assistance.

THURSDAY - In some ways, this week pales in comparison to last week.  I'm grateful for the mundane tasks.

FRIDAY - Pizza Night!!  It was good to be back to our "old standard" place for Friday night tradition.  Before meeting my DH to head to dinner, I stopped by the local nail salon to switch my reserved French manicure for some Midnight (BLUE) Madness:

Tidy Up Tuesday - Quilter's Meet & Greet

Welcome to another edition of Tidy Up Tuesday!!  Today, I am tying up loose ends on a post that has been in the works for more than a month.  I'd say that fits the theme.  Read on for further the details.

An Invitation...

Benita from Victoriana Quilt Designs (who blogs at Benita Skinner's Creative Space) had plans to host a Meet & Greet during the month of September.  She was kind enough to extend not one, but TWO invitations for me to participate.

Upon the first invitation, I checked her blog and promptly got involved in finishing my latest commission quilt.  When the second invitation email arrived, I started making excuses as to why I couldn't participate (before seeing them for what they were.)

Excuses!

Well, after suggesting that the timing wouldn't work for me and blaming the wedding quilt needing to be done just days before the event, I realized just how much time I had to prepare for the event... More than a MONTH!!!  Surely, I could write a post in that amount of time, couldn't I?

Yes.  The answer is YES!  I decided that I certainly COULD.

Participation in Benita's Meet & Greet could be fun.  Especially, since I'd never had an opportunity like this.  First, a plan was formed.  I would write the post ahead of time and work on the wedding quilt at a Sew Saturday coming up soon.  The post was started that very day!

The requirements...

I enjoy playing with fabric, spending time with my quilting friends (in-person and online), capturing memories in the form of T-shirt quilts, learning to "drive" my (still) new-to-me longarm, and using scraps to the very last inch.

My favorite quilts aren't necessarily quilts, at all.  Take this stack of mini quilts, for example:

Another of my favorite "quilts" was transformed into a quilted bowl for a dear friend:

I'm also particularly fond of this little surprise...

... Which began as one of those "what if??" moments and turned out to be a quilted mug rug for an exchange:

That brings me to my most favorite quilted jacket, which started life as a quilt, but got cut into pattern pieces:

My favorite batik quilt was a tiny bag of scraps...

... That grew into a small pin cushion for an online swap: 

LOOK!!  It's an actual quilt!  Well, quilt top in the photo below, if you want to get technical.  It turned out to be my first ever finish for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  However, it no longer belongs to me.  I love this quilt so much that I'm making another for myself:

Even though you may not be able to see the quilting in this picture, it was my very first custom quilting job completed (for myself) on my (then) new-to-me longarm quilting machine:

Just to prove that I don't ONLY like scrap quilts, this 12 year old UFO was finished using my favorite giant template board:

And, while this quilt may appear to be scrappy, it was made using a selection of fabrics collected over time.  When I made this king sized behemoth, it was the largest quilt I had ever pieced:
