ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 32

Welcome to Week 32 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week went by in a blur of activity.  What are the odds that I did any scrappy ORANGE sewing?

Read on to find out...

SUNDAY - The week began with a Zoom call with Knittingsuek:

MONDAY - Errands and art-ing...

This was from my Abstract Patterns class with @mandyevansartist where I attempted to mix up neutrals with my watercolors:

TUESDAY - Chores and art-ing were on the day's agenda.  This azalea in my garden...

Became an excuse to play with my watercolors, again:

WEDNESDAY - Work?  Nope.  I got a text about a half hour before tome to leave.  This might bother some, but it doesn't phase me in the least!  In fact, I was pretty happy about it.  The extra studio time gave me the opportunity to make some long-neglected phone calls and also allowed me the time to determine how I wanted to interpret these Purple Coneflowers from my neighbor's garden:

Ultimately, I opted to use my Posca pens and paired them with a few of my Prismacolor pencils for some extra shading:

Later...

I touched fabric scraps!!!  (Don't anybody faint - or get too excited!)  I moved them from one end of the cutting table to the other!  :P

I moved the pieces just so I would have something "quilty" to add to my Zoom conversation with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color.  Here we are shown with me being (silly and) supportive by taking our photo while tipping over, as her iPad was refusing to switch to the portrait mode:

THURSDAY - Work... NOT!!!  :o))

What did I do instead???  I went shopping... Which is precisely why I work.  So I don't have time to shop!!!  :P

Before heading out, I (finally) remembered to decorate the gallery wire in ORANGE:

When I returned, I cut out the letter from the scrap I showed yesterday.  This will (eventually) be an ORANGE scrappy gift - which (unsurprisingly) just happens to be long overdue:

FRIDAY - This morning's Knit Group was a productive time for me.  (In a flash of brilliance) I decided to take a small amount of "collage fodder", a pair of scissors, and a glue stick with me so that I could get a start on a missed page in my Flowers Magic journal.  It was fun to hear the knitters' reactions:

Once home, I added marks and additional doodles in order to blend the artist papers with my own hand painted ones.  Here's the completed page:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Not much sewing related news here.

Last night this photo from my neighbor's garden...

Inspired me to do a loose drawing...

With a touch of watercolor for a bit of color:

I'm having so much fun with paper and paint!  Have no fear, dear quilters, I will make my way back into the fabric stash.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 31

Welcome to Week 31 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week got away from me and I didn't start my post until this morning.  Can you believe it?  The queen of the prepared post has fallen to a new low.  Sigh...

SUNDAY - Our hostess announced new Color of the Month in yesterday's post.  The RSC Quilters will be working with ORANGE in August.  Here are the fabric scraps that I have to work with... THREE cubbies from lightest peach to deep rust with some bright bits thrown in the mix:

My goal is to finish this special mug rug:

This is the last day of July.  The month is gone and I nearly missed commenting on my Blog-a-versary.  Whoops!  The Joyful Quilter blog turned 12 this year.  Thanks for reading!

MONDAY - Work was followed by ORANGE art inspired by today's lesson by @joanadornellaslab for the Flowers Magic Challenge:

Oil pastel on acrylic

TUESDAY - Errand day was followed by an art adventure.  To complete today's lesson for Mandy Evans' Abstract Patterns in Watercolour, a FREE Workshop Series, I painted a Swatch "Card" with my travel kit - purchased not to paint outdoors on-the-go, but for the small scale packaging, making it easy to store:

I very nearly finish this peachy-coral Mixed Media Inspirational Wall Art project from @shemidixon for the Paper Craft Summit:

WEDNESDAY - This rosebud in my garden...

Is memorialized in the loose, sketch-y painting shown below.  This is my very first watercolor work thanks to Michelle Schratz @raspberrybluesky's Flowers Magic Challenge lesson:

Today's Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color produced this lovely photo FAIL:

But, hey! LeeAnna looks adorable and we both dressed with the RSC Color of the Month in mind!!  :o))

THURSDAY - Work - My computer seemed to have gotten this month's color cue:

Just LOOK at those sweet pinky-orange houses!

It was a good day for Wordle...

And Quordle, too:

Challenged by @franciscanunes_heartmakes, I brought out the watercolors to capture this rose from my garden...

To create this painting, which has since been cut apart to be included on two separate pages in my Flowers Magic journal:

And the purple flowers were inspired by this page in Michelle's journal:

I added a few paint splatters for a bit of fun.  Let me tell you... It's not as easy as it looks!

FRIDAY - Work was followed by some relaxation on the couch with a nice cup of tea, but after a while, I headed out into the garden to collect flower petals to create this Natural Color Palette:

I've got to say, I was a bit disappointed when my lovely ORANGE rose produced a pink shade as the petals were rubbed on the journal page.  :o((

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Maybe NEXT week there will be more ORANGE fabric scraps to see in my post.

Until then...
Get SCRAPPY!!

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 42 - Jeannie Goes Around and Around with PURPLE

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  Jeannie finished off this project at the beginning of the month, but I have been terrible about getting posts together, much less posted in a timely manner.  My apologies.  Hopefully, you all will forgive me!

This is the project that Jeannie shared on Ravelry...

I finished my July Table Scraps Challenge (circles/dot/spots & purple).  I made a coiled bowl using 6/32" cotton filler cord instead of clothesline:

Give Jeannie's BLUE project some quilty love in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her circular project.  I certainly did!  Thank you for sending this photo for the blog, Jeannie.  What a fun way to play out this month's challenge!  This might be just the project for the skinny strips that many quilters have been saving.

Link Party REMINDER...

The July party started on Friday, July 29th @ 12:01 AM, but you have through Monday, August 1st @ 11:59 PM.  At this posting, you still have time to start a PURPLE and/or Circle-y, spotty, dotty project of your own to link up.  If it's a small project, there may even have time to finish!  Will YOU join in the scrappy fun?

Until next time...
SEW those table scraps!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC22 - Week 30

Welcome to Week 30 of The Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This month, our hostess called for working with our PURPLE scraps.  I'm here to share what I did this week.  Did it involve scrap sewing?

Read on to see...

SUNDAY - I began the week with a Zoom call to Knittingsuek:

During the afternoon, I put together a journal for the Flowers Magic Challenge:

Here's where the day took a wrong turn:

Don't worry!  Even though the hit was nearly "head on", and the airbag deployed, DS2 came out relatively unscathed.  The car?  Not so much!

MONDAY - Work... NOT!!  (My job-share partner was just getting out of her car when I showed up.)  In light of the events of yesterday afternoon, I completely neglected my weekly calendar update.  Oh, well!  That allowed time for errands and made it such that I was available to take DS2 to Urgent Care for the (unseen) injuries sustained in the accident.

Here is the first lesson in the Drawing Workshop that I'm doing with @judywoods_artist and @nicolabennettart.  We were tasked with making marks based on onomatopoeia words:

TUESDAY - Chores, phone calls, and art-ing occupied my day.  Tonight, I spent some time with my Monthly Evening Quilt Bee:

Afterwards, I caught up on the Flowers Magic lesson with @camilagarciaart, opting to only do the drawing portion.  I wasn't in the mood to do a collage:

WEDNESDAY - Work... and a really bad Wordle day.  :o((

This afternoon made up for it with a fun Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

Work was followed by a quick stop at the grocery store and a bit of ICAD art-ing before dinner:

FRIDAY - (Here's the sewing part!)  TABLE SCRAPS Link Party post was released today:

Knit Group???  For approximately 30 minutes!  What did I see while there?  One of my Custom Quilted Scrap Baskets:

Why such a hasty departure, Joyful???

Apparently, I was scheduled to work, but no one mentioned it.  And... We KNOW it wasn't written on my calendar this week!  Sigh...  This required some extra art-ing when I got home:

A wild and crazy page using the GEOMETRIC prompt for Junk Journal July with @megjournals.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Every quilt has a story and I'm enjoying the PURPLE scrappy goodness of being curled up with this one:

I'm excited to discover what my ORANGE scrap basket holds for next month!  Angela announced it in today's post as the Color of the Month for August.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!

July 2022 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the July 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month.  I'll kick things off with what I made from the quilted scrap shown below:

I host this challenge in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  It's been SEW much fun to offer the...

Button credit to Susan @ Desert Sky Quilts, updated by me.

Since basically ANY small quilted item qualifies for this challenge, I scrounge through my scrap basket to see what I can come up with.

Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word is revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see August's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

July's theme was...

CIRCLES/SPOTS/DOTS

Here's what I did with that...

The Color of the Month was PURPLE so I brought out my scrap basket to see what I might find to inspire me:

Right near the top was the offcut corners from making my PURPLE scrap basket...

The one shown at the top of the post was unstitched to reveal this:

Which I promptly finished:

Check out those blueberries:

This little mug rug is perfect for a tiny cup of tea!  The miniscule mug was thrown by DS1 at Happy Hippo Pottery Camp when he was in middle school - half a lifetime ago:

That was a quick finish, but WAIT!!!  There's more...

Since my TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry was done, I decided to do something with the other offcut corner that was lurking in my basket of scraps.

What did you make, Joyful???

This small pincushion with dots and swirls:

I believe my friend Diane will recognize the fabrics.

Spoiler Alert!!!

Even though stuffing and sewing up a small pincushion SHOULD have been another easy win, it didn't get completed.  I stuffed it with Poly-Fil, but never brought in my supply of crushed walnut shells from the car.  The shells gets added for a bit of weight.

What's next, Joyful???

August will be arrives at the end of the weekend.  Do you have any hopes for what the new Color of the Month will be?  Angela will let us know soon enough, while we wait...

August's theme is:

EMBROIDERY

NOTE:  It might be an unusual prompt for some of you, but just see what you can do with it.  Hand or machine.  No maximum or minimum amount to include!  Angela announced ORANGE for August.  (I will update on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your PURPLE and/or Circle/Spots/Dots project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Monday, August 1st @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!
