Best of 2024

Hello, quilting friends!!  If you are new to The Joyful Quilter, welcome.  If you have visited before, welcome back!  Cheryl @ Meadow Mist Designs is continuing her Best of... link party tradition.  Follow THIS LINK to see all of the wonderful bloggers who have joined in the fun.  Here is her new button for the 10th anniversary edition of the Link Party:

To take part in the link party, participants were asked to write a blog post highlighting our "best" 5 posts from 2024 and join the linkup.  Cheryl suggested the following examples of posts to be included:

  • Posts with the most views
  • Posts with the most comments
  • Posts that provoked the best discussions
  • Posts showing your favorite finishes
  • Posts of your best tutorials
  • Posts that are simply your favorites
She said that this post is not only a great way to find new readers, it is also wonderful to be able to highlight some of your best posts for those readers who have joined your blog throughout the year."

The link party will open the day after Christmas on Thursday, December 26th and will be open for one week ending on Thursday, January 2nd.

This will be my 6th (consecutive) year of participation.  Those of you who have been following me for a while know that this year has been one of work, art, and health issues.  Not a lot of quilting as been accomplished!  I was able to enjoy two Quilt Retreat during the year.  It made some progress possible, but didn't result in many completed projects.

Here is an overview of my productivity for the year:

I completed 9 mini quilts/quilted mug rugs, 2 quilted pin cushions, 2 table mat/runners and 3 wall hanging, plus 5 other quilted items (including 1 pillow cover, 3 placemats, and 1 quilted jacket.)  I also finished 1 large commission quilt, and 1 donation quilt.

Items made per month...

January - 4
February - 3
March - 5
April - 1
May - 1
June - 1
July - 1
August - 2
September - 2
October - 2
November - 1
December - 0

I made a total of 23 quilted items in 2024.  (13 of those were made as a result of Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge and/or in conjunction with my TABLE SCRAPS Challenge.)  I'm shocked by the low number of finishes I was able to complete.  My productivity hasn't been this low in years!  No worries!!!  Another chance is coming in the new year.

How does one decide on her BEST posts for the year??

I took a long and hard look at the posts written in 2024, but choosing the BEST was quite a challenge...

Mine include the following...

Most modern finish - PQ 15.2 - Sky Color

Favorite TABLE SCRAPS Challenge finish - June 2024 - A Trio of Watermelons

Resulted in THREE donations for our Guild's Meals on Wheels Placemat Drive!

Quirkiest quilt finish - PQ15.1 Bird House

Favorite Rainbow Scrap Challenge finish - January 2024 - Snowflake at Midnight

Shrunken version of the Snowflake Quilt pattern.

AND...

Most amazing outcome from a finish - PQ 15.4 Hourglass

More on that in the next week or so.

Thank you for joining me in this review.  I'm happy that Cheryl organized a Link Party dedicated to reminding us to take another look at the blog posts we've written during the year.  If not for this venture, I would have left THREE projects off this year's list.  Whoops!

Also, please remember to check out my NEW 2025 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge!  You can find the full details HERE.

Until next time...
Quilt the year away!!!

Thanks to the reader who noticed that I posted the year as 2025 instead of 2024.
Apparently, I had already moved on or I got this one confused with my planning post.
Whoops!  I've fixed that now.

  3. Yes, it is not easy to choose the favorites. All of yours are really pretty.

  4. I've never participated in the "Best of" (I don't follow Cheryl), but it's a fun idea. I'm sorry for your health concerns in 2024, and hope 2025 treats you better. Your makes are very nice. Do you have them all hanging up in your studio? I always have a difficult time finding place to put small makes, which is why I generally "go big." I think your bird house make is my favorite. Now here's wishing you much productivity in 2025!
