ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 50

Welcome to Week 50 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  The year is coming to an end.  RSC Quilters from around the globe are busily working on finishing their projects.  SEW,,,  What am I doing???  Let's have a look, shall we?

Here is how my week went:

SUNDAY - I did a whole lot of nothing, save for making a treat to take to the neighbor's Holiday Party this evening.

MONDAY - Knit Group kept me occupied in the morning, but the afternoon found me joining Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Monday Link-up.  Here's a LINK to my progress post.  (Don't get TOO excited since I didn't get very much done!)

TUESDAY - It was a dreary day.  I had plans to sew, but got called to help a friend who wasn't feeling well.  :o((

WEDNESDAY - A cold day, perfect for staying at home!!  (Although, I did end up going out to visit a friend who needed some company while waiting for some tests at the hospital.)  I actually made it up to my sewing room for a bit of "play time" on some gifts for the upcoming holiday.

Special thanks to Kevin at Kevin the Quilter:

This was a fun tutorial for making some quick quilted mug rugs or small wall hangings.  YOU might like to give it a try, if you need an extra gift or two!!!

THURSDAY - My weekly Quilt Group meeting was the morning's event.  After lunch, I met up with DS2 to drop off some Exam Snacks for him and a couple of friends.  Good luck, guys!!

I also did a bit of shopping before heading home, but those purchases aren't authorized for publication.  (Elf work, you know!)

There was even MORE sewing once I got home, resulting in THIS super scrappy pieced tree:

Thanks again, Kevin!!!

Thanks go out to my quilting friends, Dee Dee, Diane, Joanna, and Ruth S., as the majority of fabrics represented came from your "Scrap Infusion" bags received during the year - because goodness knows I didn't have enough scraps already!  LOL!!!

FRIDAY - I enjoyed some extra knitting with my friends this morning, while there's still a little extra time available for such things.  Come this first week of the New Year, I will no longer have this luxury.  Until then, I'm working fast and furiously on THIS:

The afternoon and early evening, however, found me quilting away. On an RSC project, Joyful? you might ask.  Don't be ridiculous!!  I got "a bee in my bonnet" to quilt up Kevin's Christmas Trees.

The view from one end of the longarm...

... And the other:

Either way you look at it, please notice at EACH TREE is quilted differently from the rest of the forest.  I had SEW much FUN!!!

(Just don't look TOO closely or you might notice a few of the trees blowing in the breeze!  That is to say that I didn't bother to pin before quilting and some of them are not quite as straight as one might want a stately tree to be.  LOL)

SATURDAY - This is the day that RSC Quilters from around the globe join Angela's LINK PARTY over on the So Scrappy Blog. While I didn't get anything done, I feel certain that others did.  I'm heading there now to check out the progress. Please join me.

After checking in with the RSC Quilters, I prepared for some more gift sewing.  I saw the tutorial last week, but didn't act on it... Until now.  It's not something I would normally tackle (paper piecing!) However, when the PERFECT gift presents itself, sometimes you just have to pull out all the stops and do whatever it takes.

Thank you to Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts:

It's not QUITE there yet, but this will be an adorable coffee take-out cup ornament once I've completed the stitching.

I leave you with a recap of last week's UNC Jazz Concert.  This photo was taken just before the first number began:

It was a WONDERFUL performance that featured the Andrew Van Tassel Quartet, along with a selection of songs from the UNC Jazz Band.  DS2 has enjoyed playing with the band this semester and hopes to return next semester, for an encore.

Until next time...
Get Scrappy!!!

  3. Those trees look so fast and easy that I'm tempted, but must resist. Have to work on a dozen things, one is a Christmas gift hopefully.
