ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 35

Welcome to Week 35 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  The RSC Quilters are winding down on August's Color of the Month and I'm STILL not sewing, as my new studio hasn't been unpacked.  It's starting to grate on my nerves that I've barely made a dent in there.  :o((

NOTE:  If you are looking for the August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge/Link Party, click on THIS LINK.  Otherwise, keep reading to see how this week went in Joyful Quilterland.

MONDAY - I received the following comment on an older post:

Sew Silly Paula has left a new comment on the post "Community Quilts from The Junction - The Farmed Ou...":

I'm with Rosie Westerhold and would love to know the panto name. This is the first time on your site and I love it. I'm not getting anything done today viewing all of these gorgeous quilts! :-)

Thank you, Paula, but you are a No Reply blogger and I was unable to reply directly.  Hopefully, you will see this!  The panto pattern that you were looking for is Lorien's Arabesque on UrbanElementz.com. My friend Needleb used it on THIS QUILT which was featured by Jo @ Jo's Country Junction yesterday. (Thanks, Jo!!)

TUESDAY - Tidy Up Tuesday, but no accompanying post.  The diseased Crabapple tree that was taken down over the weekend got its stump ground this afternoon:

Shortly thereafter, DS2 and I went to the local big box hardware store to look for carpet for his room:

Alas, we forgot to look for vent covers (registers?) to replace damaged ones similar to this one:

WEDNESDAY - This morning was spent unpacking some boxes, but this afternoon was reserved for my weekly Zoom call with LeeAnnaNot Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - ZoomBEE LIVE!!  Here was the group that assembled in Dee Dee's lovely (shaded) driveway:

Needleb popped in for a little bit:

And...

We had a special guest from England.  Welcome back, Lisa:

She brought shortbread to share from across the pond:

In the midday, I said goodbye to my dear friend. Kristen.  Hoping to see you up at the lake before too terribly long:

FRIDAY - During the middle of the night, the August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Runner/Topper Challenge/ Link Party went live.

In the light of day, ZoomKNIT met, but had a slim turnout this morning:

After the meeting, I went to order carpet and then took Hilary to the doctor.  It turned out to be QUITE the adventure!  Here we are on the side of a major thoroughfare in a local college town at rush hour:

That was my "I can't believe this is happening" face.  We ended up having to wait 2 hours to be rescued!  :o((

Fortunately, there was a nice patch of shade right near where the car broke down.  Otherwise, I would have been a crispy critter, as I get sunburned in about 15 minutes.

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week  if/when the party is posted, as this week has been particularly challenging at her house.

Until next time...

August 2021 - TABLE SCRAPS Runner/Topper Challenge/Link Party

Welcome to the August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Runner/Topper Challenge!!  Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to enter your table runner/topper, mug rug, etc. in the Link Party by Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:59 PM (EDT.)

Calling all AQUA/ TEAL/ TURQUOISE fans!  Here is this month's inspiration photo:

No blog?  No problem, you will be able to have your scrappy table runners/toppers hosted here on The Joyful Quilter.  Just pop me an email with your name/state and a photo of your completed project and I will add it to a follow-up post.

From our participants...

Check out this idea from Jo @ Butterz!!  She used some of her skinny scraps to make this colorful placemat.  The mind blowing part about it is this is no ordinary placemat! There's a zippered cutlery pocket included, as shown below:

Photo used with permission.

When I asked about how she made her placemat, Jo was kind enough to offer some instructions and a few photos of the process she used.  Find that mini tutorial HERE.  Thank you for sharing with us, Jo!

Nann is back with a couple more links from All People Quilt.  50+ FREE Table Runner Patterns and Our Best Table Toppers.I found this Quilt as You Go Placemat video at All People Quilt.  It shows the steps that I took for my January runner:

Got favorites???

Email me , if you have a "go to" runner or topper pattern.  I'll add it to a future post.  Thanks!

Where's the table covering, Joyful???

Life got in the way this month.  This is as far as I got before the move and I haven't made progress since:

I've got the binding ready to go on, but that won't happen before this post goes live.

Why not, Joyful???

I haven't been able to locate the box/bag/bin my project was housed in.  :o((

I'll try to do better in September and will add the completed photo here as soon as I apply the binding that came straight out of the Needleb's scrap stash.

The Guest Blogger(s) - Vol. 20 - Jane From Australia

Welcome to another edition of The Guest Blogger(s)!!  I'm here to let you know that I got an email from Jane this morning.  Since it's nearing the end of the month, I'm guessing that you know what she might have had to say.

Jane wrote the following about her August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge...

Hi Joy,
This time I have made a runner for the dresser in our guest room. I have collected lots of pretty flower fabrics, those which tend to look realistic rather than abstract or geometric in style. After several quilts, I set aside pieces for hexagons, quilt as you go style. The batting is behind each flower, and the backing is wrapped to the front and then stitched down, which also serves as the quilting. The backing for each hexie  is the same fabric, a greenish leafy pattern, which makes a break between the flowers but also tends to tie them together. The hexies are whip stitched together from the back.

Here are the photos she sent along...

The dresser:

The side table:

Share the quilty love for Jane's project in the comments below.  I know that you enjoyed seeing her simply stunning QAYG Hexi runner and topper as much as I did!  Thank you for sending photos for the blog, Jane.  I'm SEW pleased to post them for all to see!

LINK PARTY REMINDER...

The August 2021 TABLE SCRAPS Link Party will be open from  Friday, August 27th @ 12:01 AM - MONDAY, August 30th @ 11:59 PM.  That means there's still an entire week to finish up your project (or start one!)  Will YOU be joining in the scrappy fun?

Until next time...

Sew Some Love Sunday - LWR - Quilt Number Nineteen

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  I'm here with an update on the Lutheran World Relief Mission Quilt Drive here at The Joyful Quilter.  It's been quite some time since the last post about this project.  You'll forgive me, won't you?  I'm still waiting on a few of the stragglers.

While I was waiting, another project came about and then...

A week or so ago, I received the follow email:

Question-- are you still taking quilts for Lutheran World Relief? I am putting the binding on one that is the right size for you. I got to rent a longarm today and it's the first one, so it's finished, though it's no showpiece. I'm planning to post it on Monday or Tuesday and can mail it off to you after that.

This photo was attached:

Here was my response:

Pretty (RSC?) quilt, Mari! While I'm no longer actively soliciting quilts for them, I'm not opposed to taking more quilts for Lutheran World Relief. You could also send the quilt to one of the two hospice programs that I support. Both Bernie @ Mercyful Quilts or Kat @ Covered in Love (TX) would be thrilled to receive your cheerful offering. Whatever you decide is fine.

The first box on my new front porch...

... Arrived this week from Mari @ The Academic Quilter and inside the box was this lovely quilt:

She blogged about the quilt HERE.

Those were the first quilt photos in my new studio.  I also tried my hand at porch swing photos like Kat @ Covered in Love...

... But found that I might need a bit more practice:

Thank you, Mari, for sharing your time, talent, and materials to bring comfort to someone in need!  I appreciate your contribution to the LWR Mission Quilt Drive.

With all that's been going on in Joyful Quilterland...

... It took a few days to get around to opening the box:

The goodies above and the lovely note below were also enclosed:

Thanks for the unexpected treat, Mari!  I'm particularly fond of that sweet rainbow print.  Bonus points for its pretty AQUA background to go along perfectly with August's Color of the Month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  :o))

Until next time...
Sew some love!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 34

Welcome to Week 34 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Not a bit of AQUA/TEAL/TURQUOISE sewing was done this week...

Unless you count vacuuming the sewing room countless times while preparing for our house to go on the market!

MONDAY - I went shopping for home staging supplies, but this mat was too wide for our threshold:

TUESDAY - It's Tidy Up Tuesday, but there is no accompanying post.  I packed up the tea cabinet to free up some space:

WEDNESDAY - Today's news?  I unpacked the first studio box and the sewing tables are ready to go... Once I find the power cords:

THURSDAY - ZoomBEE met this morning:

I took a trip to the old house in the midday to retrieve some personal items and found that the sign had been placed in the yard:

While there, I couldn't resist capturing this incredible studio photo to share with you all:

When I returned home, it was almost time to Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color, as we postponed yesterday's regular time:

FRIDAY - ZoomKNIT met this morning:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

Until next time...

Sew Some Love Sunday - PositivityQAL - The Block Drive - An Update

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love!!  I'm here with an update concerning a set of blocks for the Positivity Block Drive going on here at The Joyful Quilter.  It's being run in conjunction with Preeti's Positivity QAL @ Sew Preeti Quilts.

I reported the following:

My apologies to Nann @ With Strings Attached!  Her 12 blocks seem to have gotten waylaid.  The package tracking says the blocks arrived on July 26th.  Unfortunately, I haven't seen them.  :o((

Update...

Funny (not funny) story about the delivery:

Our across the street neighbors recently moved.  The new people are collecting the mail for them and handing it off to their next door neighbors.

Those neighbors save the mail to ship off to our old neighbors. Unfortunately, the substitute mail carrier delivered Nann's package to the wrong address.  Fortunately, it caught the shipper/neighbor's eye and she happened to notice my name before sending the package on to Atlanta!!!

The package arrived with the following note:

These 12 green blocks were enclosed:

What's up with the green, Joyful???

The purpose of the color change was so that Maggie could have something a little different to work on. Why green? Because purple and green are a favorite color combination of mine. It always reminds me of my iris garden.

Thank you to Nann for sending these lovely blocks!  I apologize for causing such a scare.  I'm SEW glad that the missing package was found with your blocks safely inside.  They will soon be delivered to our Piecing Fairy for assembly into another fabulous quilt top for Mercyful Quilts.

Until next time...
Whew!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC21 - Week 33

Welcome to week 33 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week I did a whole lot of packing and moving, but NO SEWING.  :o((

Find the aqua/teal/turquoise in the box of shirts that I posted on IG over the weekend.  I wanted my RSC Quilter friends to know that I was thinking about them (even if I couldn't visit all the links.)

In addition to that (pre-scheduled) post, I spent the day with two of my three favorite men.  We packed more of our belongings and loaded our vehicles and a trailer for a trip to the new house:

MONDAY - A trip back to the old house.  The closest I came to sewing today was vacuuming the old studio.  Sorry, quilters!  No photographic evidence.  :P

TUESDAY - Another trip back to the old house and the closest I came to sewing today was reassembling and righting my tables in the new studio after dinner this evening:

WEDNESDAY -  Wonderful Wednesday, but no post.  I do have three things to share.  First, I was very excited to see that there is a reblooming azalea in my new front yard, but upon closer inspection, I'm even more excited.  It's either a two-color variety or there were two varieties planted very close together (Anyone know if that's poison ivy growing out of it?  I'm hoping not, as DH is allergic!):

Second, I was delivered a special housewarming gift.  My friend Candy's special soup.  Yes.  It's hot as blazes outside, but my family likes soup any time of the year.  Better still... All I had to do was reheat this delicious pot of quilty love:

Third, today was my weekly Zoom call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color.  I was pleased that I was able to spend a little time showing her around my new studio:

THURSDAY - ZoomBEE was hosted by the lovely Candy.  She of last night's dinner.  Thank you, again, for your thoughtfulness!

FRIDAY - I missed ZoomKNIT in favor of picking up the components of a new organizational system for my new studio.  Just WAIT until you see what becomes of all this:

After dinner, one of our new neighbors brought over this beautiful bouquet to welcome us to the neighborhood:

This unusual bloom was included:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  My biggest accomplishment for the week was to take the "Shirt Rainbow in a Box" (as shown at the top of this post) and give it a new home.  Here it is in it's own special section of my new closet:

Thank you, again, to all of my wonderful RSC Quilter friends and my faithful readers!  I appreciate all of the well wishes expressed for our move and the patience you've shown in my delayed responses to your lovely comments.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!!

Sew Some Love Sunday - SEW Much More Positivity

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  My mailbox has been a happening place the last few weeks.  I thought you might like to see the scrappy blocks that have been pouring in.

Feast your eyes on the following...

Inside were these four blocks from Cindy @ Delighted Hands:

Later in the week...

Miss Pat enclosed a sweet note:

Quilt related, of course:

These are the eight blocks she included:

Wildcard Fiber (Ravelry) sent eight batik blocks:

Doris7264 (Ravelry) was kind enough to send a baker's dozen:

Blog reader Susie H. @ Knitty Quilter made these four blocks:

Then a special rigid mailer arrived:

These well protected blocks...

... came all the way from Australia!!  EmeraldKnitter (Ravelry) sent six of them to be added to one of our group quilts:

And possibly the LAST package at the old house...

From Connie W.:

Along with the very 1st package at the new house...

From Darlene H.:

A stack of 18 blocks:

Special thanks to each of you for your generous contributions to the Positivity QAL Block Drive!!

Speaking of generosity...

My apologies to Nann @ With Strings Attached!  Her 12 blocks seem to have gotten waylaid.  The package tracking says the blocks arrived on July 26th.  Unfortunately, (as of the writing of this post) I haven't seen them.  :o((
