It's Dark BLUE month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and neither of my block sets need that color. What better way to sew up some scraps than in a donation block for one of my favorite charities?! Today, I'm going to share some progress pictures.
What block did you choose, Joyful???
One of my favorite star blocks is Scrap Jar Star by Amber @ Gigi's Thimble. It allows you to use up to 20 different scraps of fabric (and that's not counting the background, which could also be scrappy!) For today's block, I only used 5 different print fabrics, plus the background. Truth be told, I actually used 3 different solid white fabrics, too. There turned out not to be enough of my original choice. Oops!
Here are my fabric selections:
Next, I added in the background squares:
Sewing happened:
The sewn fabric pairs were pressed:
Next, I moved on to the central 16-Patch:
Continuing with the rest of the block components, then pressing...
... And stacking, so the units are ready for assembly:
Once the Dark BLUE 16-Patch was assembled, I stopped to take a photo for my friends from the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:
By adding some HSTs and some corner units, your block is done:
Here's a gratuitous beauty shot of my Scrap Jar Star:

ReplyDeleteMy original comment had a really bad typo in it! ;( So I'm starting over! Just wanted to say I love ScrapJar Stars (as you know!) and yours are perfect for CiL! I've been making some stars for Kat this week, too. Need to get them finished up and sent off.
ReplyDeleteSJSs are so fun to make. I need to see if I have any stars in my Parts Department that I can send her way.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a great scrap box star - it will be a terrific addition to a CiL quilt.
ReplyDeleteOoh! Another star block I wanted to try! Thanks for the reminder! Nobody said you had to use all the same pattern! Two friendship stars! Slightly different. One Sawtooh Star with a 4 patch center, inspired by Diann at Little Penguin! Now a SJS! Yea!
ReplyDeleteNice star block. It looks like it uses a lot of little squares! And it will go to a good cause.
ReplyDeleteLovely block - it is one of my favorite star blocks too. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteWonderful star for a wonderful cause! Of course, I'm a little biased :)
ReplyDeleteCute block
