Welcome to the July 2022 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!! Thanks for stopping by to see what participants have made this month. I'll kick things off with what I made from the quilted scrap shown below:
I host this challenge in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy. It's been SEW much fun to offer the...

Since basically ANY small quilted item qualifies for this challenge, I scrounge through my scrap basket to see what I can come up with.
Each month I offer a prompt to help get your creative juices flowing. While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word is revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see August's focus. It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month) will also be added to the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.
July's theme was...
CIRCLES/SPOTS/DOTS
Here's what I did with that...
The Color of the Month was PURPLE so I brought out my scrap basket to see what I might find to inspire me:
Right near the top was the offcut corners from making my PURPLE scrap basket...
The one shown at the top of the post was unstitched to reveal this:
Which I promptly finished:
Check out those blueberries:
This little mug rug is perfect for a tiny cup of tea! The miniscule mug was thrown by DS1 at Happy Hippo Pottery Camp when he was in middle school - half a lifetime ago:
That was a quick finish, but WAIT!!! There's more...
Since my TABLE SCRAPS Challenge entry was done, I decided to do something with the other offcut corner that was lurking in my basket of scraps.
What did you make, Joyful???
This small pincushion with dots and swirls:
Even though stuffing and sewing up a small pincushion SHOULD have been another easy win, it didn't get completed. I stuffed it with Poly-Fil, but never brought in my supply of crushed walnut shells from the car. The shells gets added for a bit of weight.
What's next, Joyful???
August will be arrives at the end of the weekend. Do you have any hopes for what the new Color of the Month will be? Angela will let us know soon enough, while we wait...
August's theme is:
EMBROIDERY
NOTE: It might be an unusual prompt for some of you, but just see what you can do with it. Hand or machine. No maximum or minimum amount to include! Angela announced ORANGE for August. (I will update on the 2022 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge tab at the top of my blog as soon as it's announced.)
And now...
It's time for YOU to link up your PURPLE and/or Circle/Spots/Dots project in the LINK PARTY below. All entries MUST be submitted by Monday, August 1st @ 11:59PM (EDT).
Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

I love those bold colors in that pincushion! Won’t that be fun to use when it gets finished. A mug rug here, a mug rug there, a mug rug everywhere is so handy. And yours is so perfect with your precious memory mug.
ReplyDeleteLoads of good things in this post, Joy. Love your little finishes - I have a thing for pincushions, and especially with blueberries, dots and swirls. You bring a certain energy to your blog writing that is upbeat.
ReplyDeleteNice finishes and love the mug your son made.
ReplyDeleteIf that isn't the most perfect little mug rug for the mug your son made, I don't know what would be! Love it, Joy. And embroidery as part of the August challenge - that will be fun!
ReplyDeleteNice little projects that keep the creative juices flowing!
ReplyDeleteSuper impressed with your little finish and almost finish! I have a tiny scrap of that grape fabric which made me chuckle! Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that purple mug
ReplyDeletePretty and practical
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cute purple mini mug rug! I've done pretty much zero sewing in July, but maybe (?) I'll manage something before the weekend is over.
ReplyDeleteHi, what a cute mug rug and so nice to use up a scrap that was already pieced and quilted! Thanks for hosting - I love making something small and special :-)
