ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC24 - Week 39

Welcome to Week 39 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was full to the brim with activities, classes, and work.  It was also filled with vertigo that would not go away.  Thankfully, that seemed to diminish as the week went on.  I'll tell you right up front...

There was NO scrap sewing this week!!!  :o((

SUNDAY - Well, it started off with vertigo and my Weekly Morning Art Zoom.  I worked on the Roll the Dice game that I missed last week.  The prompts were magazine image, cling wrap, masking or washi tape, map and marker:

Britt and I (and a couple others) stayed on for a little bit after the meeting ended:

Once I had eaten lunch, I headed back up to the studio for my Weekly Zoom with Knittingsuek:

MONDAY - Day Off

Yay!!!  It's my day off!  With my schedule change, I met briefly with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color for our Weekly Zoom session:

I am so excited that I was able to attend Curiosity Collective for the 4th week in a row.  That is completely unheard of!  Today we worked on Messy Recipe #7, but I deviated a bit from the plan.  My page had the recommended watercolor and magazine image, but that was it:

TUESDAY - Work

Yesterday afternoon I was excited to receive Happy Mail!!!

My very first Ephemera Swap package arrived from Germany.  What fun I am going to have working these items into my journal pages:

WEDNESDAY - Work

I finally remembered to take a photo of this page made during a class with Julie Hamilton:

THURSDAY - Work

I made a doctor appointment before work to see if there was anything that could be done about my ongoing vertigo.  The typical maneuvers don't seem to work for me.

Between that and icing my back and neck, I worked on this page in my Happy Mail journal using some of the items from my swap package before lunch and heading off to work:

After work I headed out to my Monthly Evening Quilt Bee meeting, but with the rain predicted, only a few members showed up:

Work

Before that, I "swam" to the local coffee shop for Weekly Knit Group.  Again, only a few members braved the force of nature that was Hurricane Helene.  Actually, it was barely raining when I left home.  We knit as the rain blew through and I left to get ready for work when the wind and rain died down...

Alas...

I had to find an alternate route home, as the road was blocked off about a mile from our house:

After dinner I attended my Weekly Evening Art Zoom.  I added bits of ephemera (from my swap gift) to these pages in my Get Messy art journal...

First, I used a portion of a napkin, a stamped butterfly, and a leaf cut from one of the collage pages to add some interest to a pre-marked page:

Then I cut out the hand-drawn flower from my swap partner's envelope and added that to a page with a gelli print from an earlier journaling session:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.

Knittingsuek and I skipped our Weekly Zoom call today.  She had too much to do and I had an art class and a few things to do in order to be ready for Monday evening's quilt turn-in for next weekend's Quilt Show.  This was the start of today's  class...

And...

This is what I made during the class:

I also took time to finish up last week's art class with More Than Marmalade that I didn't have time nor energy to complete.  Let me tell you... I am THRILLED with the results of this charcoal pencil and watercolor page:

Until next time...

September 2024 - TABLE SCRAPS Challenge - Link Party

Welcome to the May 2024 edition of the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge here at the Joyful Quilter!!  I'll start with a little backstory, in case you are new here.  (Apologies to my regular readers since you already know all about it.) I'm a scrap quilter who had been setting up individual challenges for several years in conjunction with Angela's (RSC) Rainbow Scrap Challenge @ So Scrappy.  Participants from around the corner, across the country and around the world have been having SEW much fun and we all have MORE scraps to use, so I am pleased to offer the...

In 2024, we have a broad range of quilted items that are appropriate for linking to the Challenge.  Baskets and bins, along with pillows and pin cushions, are all qualifying projects.  Not just the toppers, runners, and mug rugs.  Basically, ANY small quilted item qualifies.  The main premise is that you USE the (new or old) SCRAPS from your cutting table (or your friend's cutting table - since that's where the majority of my scraps come from!)

There will be a prompt each month to help get your creative juices flowing.  While you are NOT required to use it in your project, the guiding word will be revealed at the end of each month's LINK PARTY post.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the following month's focus.  It, along with the RSC Color of the Month (as soon as Angela releases it - around the 1st of the month.) will also be added to the 2024 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge page at the top of the blog.

The theme for September was...

LEAVES

I wasn't sure where I was going with that, but...

The Color of the Month was DARK and or Black, I rummaged through that basket to see what I could find.  These fabric scraps seemed to fill the bill:

Once a layout was determined, I started stitching right away and soon enough...

Soon enough, the top was complete:

Batting and backing scraps came next...

With a few pins in place, my entry was ready for quilting:

The quilting was also pretty quick, as I kept it pretty minimal and the photo below shows the binding options I found in the scrap basket:

Here is my completed entry for the September 2024 TABLE SCRAPS Challenge...

Posing on the porch swing...

And on the arm of the sofa, where the mini runner will live during the Autumn months, you can get a better look at the front with its selection of black and leaf print scraps...

Along with another leaf print for the back, my entry is basically reversible:

Did YOU spy some of your scraps???  If so, thank you for making this project possible!!!

What's next, Joyful???

A new month begins in a few days.  Angela did an early announcement a few weeks ago.  The Color of the Month for October is...

LIGHT and/or Brown

October's theme is:

CATS

And now...

It's time for YOU to link up your DARK, Black and/or LEAFY project in the LINK PARTY below.  All entries MUST be submitted by Wednesday, October 2nd @ 11:59PM (EDT).

Until next time...
USE those table scraps!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC24 - Week 38

Welcome to Week 38 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week was a mixed bag of work and art.  Was there any sewing involved?

Read on to find out...

SUNDAY - Travel Day

I missed my Weekly Morning Art Zoom, but was home in time to join Julie and the Season of Experimentation for a lesson on painty play:

This was the page created from yesterday's paint mixing experiment:

Britt and I chatted for a bit afterwards:

MONDAY - Day Off

Since I wasn't working today, I was able to attend Curiosity Collective with my Get Messy art friends.  LOOK!  Sewing was involved - PAPER sewing:

My monthly Quilt Guild meeting was this evening.  Our speaker was Lyric Kinard...

And...

It was also turn-in night for the Birds, Bees, Flowers and Trees (& Butterflies) Challenge.  This was my entry displayed on the table for voting along with the other twenty-two (22!) entries:

TUESDAY - Work

Beforehand, I had a chance to catch up on Drew Steinbrecher and the FREE Gel Print Summit Kickoff.  Yes... That IS fabric in the background!  He is an artist and a quilter:

WEDNESDAY - Day Off/Sick Day/Work (It's a long story.  Don't ask.)

Unfortunately...

That meant that I missed my weekly Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color.  :o((

THURSDAY - Work

Since I wasn't scheduled for the early shift (like I thought) I was able to watch Tracey Wozniak's newly released class on Get Messy:

FRIDAY - Work and another late arrival time.  This made it possible to attend Tracey's LIVE image transfer class this morning...

Here is the page I created using coffee dyed paper, magazine images, and my new watercolors to extend the sky and water of the transfer I selected:

After dinner, I attended my Weekly Evening Art Zoom and was able to check another art experiment off my list with this seascape painted using a plastic grocery bag inspired by @skorobogatova_anna known for her unconventional techniques:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you will join me in visiting Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  All I managed this week was selecting a handful of scraps for this month's TABLE SCRAPS Challenge which begins on Friday, September 27th.  We'll see what becomes of them as the days dart past:

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC24 - 37

Welcome to Week 37 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week didn't turn out as planned.  We were thrown zinger after zinger.  It ended up a mixed bag of work and travel.

Spoiler Alert:  There was definitely no time for DARK scrap sewing!

SUNDAY - Weekly Morning Art Zoom started my day.  I (finally) completed Episode 10 of Art Journal August - Gold Leaf.  Although, I used gold paint since I don't have any gold leaf:

Britt and I zoomed for a little while afterwards:

The afternoon was filled with laundry, computer work, and a necessary trip to the grocery store.  I also pulled out my DARK/Black Quilted Scrap Basket to see what appealed to my imagination for meeting this month's LEAF prompt for the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge:

After an early dinner, I headed up to the studio for Collage Club.  I worked on...

MONDAY - I was happy that today was a day off work because it allowed me the opportunity to attend Curiosity Collective with my Get Messy Art friends:

It was a busy day at the construction site next door.  House #9 was going up today:

TUESDAY - Pleased to have another Day Off with time in it for this week's Zoom with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

WEDNESDAY - Work Training Day

Afterwards, I was ready to knock one of the art experiments off the list that I created.  This time I tried Charcoal Transfer.  I drew the portrait on the right with a block of charcoal and did an image transfer on the gel plate (not shown.)  Once the image was pulled, I pulled another print to "clean the plate" and was thrilled to end up with the image on the left with its random grungy peeled paint.  Both the portrait and the gel print were done on junk mail envelopes then added to my most recent Altered Book Journal:

It was another busy day on the construction site:

Although, it turns out that what I thought was House #9...

Was actually House # 10 and this one is House #9...

The crew also made a good start on House #11:

THURSDAY - Work Day/Travel Night

After work, I finished packing and DS2 took us to the airport.  Below is our plane just before the final boarding call to PVD:

FRIDAY - Family Day included lunch with my California SIL that I don't get to see very often:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I may not get a chance to visit Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week, but I will try to visit before next weekend.  No guarantees, though.

Today was a full Family Day.  The photo below was taken on the way to the main event:

Dinner for FOURTEEN at Tavolo Warwick:

Fortunately, it was NOT another late night, as our flight is a 7 AM in the morning.

Until next time...
