ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC17 - Week 12

Welcome to Week 12 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!!  This week will be a bust for sewing at home.  I'm leaving town on Wednesday and won't return until Sunday.  It's OK, though...

Read on to find out why!!

SUNDAY - Prepared Police Quilt for quilting...

... and looked back at yesterday's Quilt Bee meeting in RED:

And GREEN:

I was completely ready for St. Patrick's Day!!  (A day late according to my friend, Linda.)  I made the jacket and I wear it ALL MONTH LONG!!!  So, there!!  :P

Then (late last night) I realized that I missed Cynthia's Quilty Orphan Adoption event.  Although, some of the adoptions are still open, so you may want to go check it out!

MONDAY - Meeting a new friend at Knit Group today.  Good news!!  I'm actually knitting again:

TUESDAY - My stay-at-home day was filled with...

A whole lot of PACKING!!!  Clothing and sewing supplies.

But, WHY, Joyful???

WEDNESDAYI'm going on a Quilting Adventure!!!

THURSDAY - Late yesterday afternoon, I arrived at A Mountain Quilt Fest in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  Today was my day to wander the show and explore the area.

FRIDAY - I was up before the sun so that I would have plenty of time to get ready for my class.  I signed up for Fast and Fabulous Bargello Wall Hanging with Patti Carey.  It's a technique that I've never tried (beyond a basic diagonal line through the center of a miniature quilt many, many years ago.)

You can take the "class" any day of the week!  HERE is the YouTube link to the tutorial.  Give it a try, if you haven't before!!

SATURDAY - That was FUN!!  Now, I'm on to the next BIG thing... meeting up with Knittingsuek and Needleb in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Midday arrival at Beginnings Quilt Shop in Hendersonville, North Carolina.  Britt and Sue were there enjoying a class.  Once their class ends, we will have dinner together and quilt into the evening... or sit and chat (while showing off our class samples.)  Photos will be posted sometime next week.

REMINDER:  Even though I'm not at home, it's still LINK PARTY day for the RSC with Angela over on So Scrappy Quilt blog.  Go see what everyone has been working on.  As far as I know, most of it will be:

In shades of RED.  At least for the next week!!

Until next time...

Mail Call Monday - Woven Treasure

Welcome to another edition on Mail Call Monday!!  One of my Ravelry friends asked if we could do a swap this year.  She wanted one of my quilted pin cushions and in return, she would weave a kitchen towel for me.

Well...

Of course, I said YES!!  You can read about my part HERE and delivery day came last week:

Enclosed was a little note:

THIS is the lovely handwoven towel that I received:

I still say that I got the better end of this bargain, but she is happy with her pin cushion.  My towel is NOT going in the kitchen, though!!  I don't want to risk it getting food stains on it.

Instead, it has taken up residence in the powder room:

There, I am able to enjoy it a number of times per day (without the risk of food stains.)  Thank you, Belindybe!!  I treasure your work.

Until next time...
Swapping with friends is FUN!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC17 - Week 11

Welcome to Week 11 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Each week I hope for more sewing time than in the previous one.  This time, I didn't bother to hope for MORE.  I knew that I would need to be satisfied with ANY sewing time at all.

But, WHY, Joyful???

SUNDAY - I finished my Sew Some Love post, read all of the new RSC linked posts, and tackled Mt. Washmore.

MONDAY - My week has been turned upside down.  I'm staying with a friend this week.

TUESDAY - Staying with a friend doesn't leave much time for RSC sewing.  :o((

WEDNESDAY - Especially when I'm not getting home until dinner time!  Upon my arrival, I head straight to the kitchen.

THURSDAY - Until today!

Today, I was able to get out early.  When I got home, I headed straight for the sewing room.  Had some trouble focusing, so I did what I often do...

I made ONE Crumb Block:

LOOK!!  There's RED in there.  :o))

FRIDAY - Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!  If you've been following my blog for a while, you've seen this before.  If you are relatively new, THIS is hanging in my kitchen during the month of March:

SATURDAY - Happy Worldwide Quilting Day!!

It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  It's also the day for my monthly Quilt Bee meeting. That doesn't bode well for any actual sewing time, especially since I need to stop by the grocery store on the way home.  Oh, well, it is always fun to spend time with friends (and people at my house insist on eating EVERY day!!)

I was an early bird this morning.  (I know, I was shocked, too!!  Angela's new linky wasn't posted yet.  I checked back and linked up right before leaving for Quilt Bee.  Thanks, Angela!

Until next time...

Sew Some Love Sunday - DOQ Outreach Edition

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!  One of my favorite things is helping others...

DOQ Outreach worked on these little place mat sized quilts for several years.  I suggested that they may want to deliver some to Carillon Assisted Living in Hillsborough, North Carolina.  These quilts have been found to be useful for engaging seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's at other facilities.

Fidget Quilts:

Delivery Day was filled with happy workers:

They feel certain that the residents of the Memory Care Unit will LOVE these little quilts. THEY loved these little quilts, so that's a start!!  :o))

A little background information...

The Outreach Chair for the Durham Orange Quilt Guild had asked if members knew of facilities that might be able to use some of the Fidget Quilts made.  I knew that Carillon had a Memory Care Unit. I had seen the sign for it many times when visiting my father during the time that he was a resident in the Assisted Living wing.

Thank you, Jean F., for allowing ME to be the one to deliver these little quilts to Carillon.

I will be linking up with Kat later in the week.

Until next time...

Scraphappy Saturday - RSC17 - Week 10

Welcome to Week 10 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  As we found out late last week, March's Color of the Month is RED. Angela assured us that this was due to a random crayon box drawing.

SUNDAY - I posted my Sew Some Love entry for the week. I also the blue-er of my two Scrap Jar Stars (leftover from February) for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge:

MONDAY - Finally!!  A return to "normal."  Knit Group on the regularly scheduled day.  It was great to see everyone, again!  Afterwards, I assessed the RED situation in my scrap baskets:

The RED basket is overflowing!  We'll see how far that takes me.

TUESDAY - It was a stay-at-home day for me.  Did I get any sewing time???  Well... Just a little  tiny bit!

I sewed the patch on my Police quilt:

And stitched down the oath:

Other random sewing tasks were followed by dinner with DS1, then remembered that I had a meeting to attend in Chapel Hill in an hour.  Oops!!  That turned out well because I was able to swing by DS2's dorm to drop off a treat and talk with him for a while afterwards.

WEDNESDAY - Another stay-at-home day.  How did that work out??  I link-up with Kat for Sew Some Love and dug out my RED scrap BAG to add to the basket bits:

The rotary cutter got a workout:

It's surprising how much time that took.  Especially, since I wanted blocks with few repeating prints!

THURSDAY - Spent the day with a friend. Caught a few minute of sewing time before dinner.  Midway through the "repair" on my Scrap Jar Star from last month...

And it's all fixed:

After dinner with DS2, which included a(nother) trip to Chapel Hill to get him for Spring Break, I was able to get the components lined up for the center of not one...

... but TWO Scrap Jar Stars in RED:

FRIDAY - Another day spent with a friend.  At least, the afternoon was my own!  What did I do??  Why, made one of those RED Scrap Jar Star blocks, of course...

... And set up to sew the 2nd one:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day!!  But first...

That 2nd RED Scrap Jar Star was waiting for assembly:

Now, I'm off to see what the other RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  Care to join me?  Let's GO!!!

Later, I'll be working on Angela's Star Blocks for my version of her RSC15 quilt.  As a reminder, I'm using my Slab Blocks from 2015 and 2016 for the centers.  I've got the star points cut out:

Next, I'll need to track down some background fabrics.

Until next time...

Sew Some Love Sunday - Something New {and the PULSE Display, too!}

Welcome to another edition of Sew Some Love Sunday!!  This week, I found another new-to-me charity and thought I'd share it with you.

Made with my two hands did a quilt for Hope Homes International another charity to add to the list.  If it speaks to you, by all means, make a quilt to share!

The second portion of this edition of Sew Some Love Sunday is to share another bit of QuiltCon East 2017 with you all.

The PULSE display - since I only gave you an overview last week:

About the project:

Estimates of materials used:

A collection of photos of the 1700+ quilts that were made:

So many different takes on the Heart Quilt:

So many ways to portray a rainbow:

SO many ways to share the quilty love:

SO many (wonderful) different quilting designs:

My friend Britt and I made several laps around the display to see if we could spot either of the two quilts that were sent by our groups:

There were SO many quilt photos that it was an impossible task!!

Members from the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild were on hand to share their appreciation for all the quilters worldwide who participated in this outreach project in response to the PULSE shootings.  Because of the generous support, the guild was able to expand the scope of this project WAY beyond original plans.

My friends and I missed the PULSE Meet-Up, but later learned that the Guild's first concern was of simply offering comfort to the survivors.  Response from the quilting community allowed them to include victims' families and then first responders who were on the scene or in the hospitals at the time of the shootings.  There were enough quilts to share with the 911 operators and others involved.

Orlando Modern played to members strengths in getting the PULSE Quilt heart blocks made into quilts.  They made up a variety of kits.  Members could take complete quilt kits (everything needed to make a quilt), partial kits (adding more blocks or border fabrics), volunteer to quilt the quilts (on domestic machines or longarms), volunteer to bind the quilts (by hand or machine), or volunteer to deliver the quilts.  Many members opted for multiple kits and did a variety of other jobs.

Thank YOU, Orlando Modern Quilt Guild, for the call to action! And from the Guild... if YOU were involved in any way, I'm passing along their thanks. It's good to do good and, let me tell you, quilters really ROCK at doing good!!

Linking up with Kat on Wednesday.  Stop by to see some other charitable works being done.

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC17 - Week 9

Welcome to Week 9 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week is Transition Week. The RSC Quilters will trade in their SEA GREEN scraps for the new color of Angela's choosing.

SUNDAY - Returned from QuiltCon East in Savannah, GA.  Upon my return, I wrote up my Sew Some Love Sunday post.  Now, back to my regularly scheduled activities...

MONDAY - I started my day with Knit Group and ended it with a bit of a tour through BlogLand.  Look what I found:

Pinwheel Garden

The pattern is called Pinwheel Garden found on the Primative Gatherings website.  I linked to it from Rogue Quilter's blog (where she showed her blue table topper.  This small version measures 22" x 28" and appears to be available as a pattern for $8.00 or one can purchase a kit for $45.00.

TUESDAY - I had a much-needed stay-at-home day today.  Well... until it was time to leave for my monthly Quilt Bee meeting!  :o))

WEDNESDAY - Quilter's Play Date (that wasn't all that fun) I spent the entire day cutting fabrics for a bag project.  No SEWING whatsoever!!

In other news...

It's Transition Day.  The RSC Quilters worldwide are waiting for Angela to post the color for March so that we can go play in our scrap stashes.

Wait for it... wait for it...  Nothing.  :o((

THURSDAY - Hooray!!  I've got conjunctivitis, better known as pinkeye.  :o((

I have good news, too.  Angela announced March's Color of the Month:

A month too late, if you ask me, but who am I to judge?!
I'm just glad that she continues to carry on with the
Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!!

With the good news comes bad.  Angela's daughter took a stick to the head at lacrosse on Tuesday night.  She's got a concussion and spent all day at the doctor on Wednesday.  (I knew SOMETHING must have been wrong for Angela to be late with our color.)  Take it easy, Anna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FRIDAY - After a "normal" day, I had dinner with DH and then took a trip around the Triangle picking up my offspring from their various colleges.  DS1 is home for NCSU's Spring Break and DS2 is home for the weekend (more than likely because he has run out of clean laundry!!)  He'll be home again next weekend for the start of UNC's Spring Break, just when his brother will be ready to head back to campus.  Yippee!!  ANOTHER trip around the Triangle NEXT weekend!!

But first, nails in the Color of the Month:

SATURDAY - Angela's LINK PARTY is here!!  Go see which RSC Quilters had a chance to get a jump start on RED.  I'll catch up with you later.

Until next time...
