ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 13

Welcome to Week 13 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  Who knows WHAT was going on this week?!  Extra band rehearsals, MPAs, packing for a Spring Break (Band Trip), and visiting with family for the Easter Holiday.  Whew!!  Let's see if Joyful was able to find some sewing time...

SUNDAY was the day that my friends and I got together to make the Bluff Thank You Quilt:

It's also the day that I get to tell you the news from yesterday about DS2.  :o))

When we got back from touring UNCG on Saturday afternoon, he found an email from NC State saying that decisions had been made.  He checked on the website and was ACCEPTED!!

He heard back from Elon University couple of hours later.  Not only was he accepted, but he also received a Presidential Scholarship.  (Still not sure if that will actually make it affordable, though!!)

On MONDAY morning, I went to Knit Group and spent the afternoon __________.

PLEASE!!  Fill in the blank above, because I simply can NOT recall what I did!!  In my comings and goings, I spotted some PURPLE pansies at the front of the neighborhood:

The evening, however, was set aside for Quilt Guild.  It was my turn to drive the carpool.

TUESDAY morning, I thought that I might wander over to the Donation Quilt meeting and afterwards, I took a trip out to:

Where Bo is:

In the afternoon, I spent some time with my next door neighbor's 8 month old baby.  So sweet!!

WEDNESDAY morning, I did some housework and went to do a Quilt Presentation at a local retirement community.  It had been canceled, but there was an Iris Art Exhibit...

... In the RSC Color of the Month, along with bits of this month's Accent Color:

During the midday, I worked on S's T-quilt:

LOOK!!  there is even a lavender T-shirt (which can certainly be called light PURPLE, too!)

The afternoon?  DS2 had Band MPAs.  That's Music Performance Assessments for those of you not familiar with band things.  I couldn't go because I was scheduled to pick up the girls.  :o((

I was able to drop off some dinner when school got out.  He was thrilled that he wouldn't go hungry!!

Since there was no boy to cook for, DH and I met for dinner... ALONE.  :o))

Although... in not so many months, that will be the NORM, instead of the EXCEPTION!!  :o((

On THURSDAY, I was pleased to spend the morning at my weekly Quilt Group meeting.  I came away the proud owner of MORE scraps:

Afterwards, I ran errands in preparation for DS2's trip to Florida (this weekend.)

Oops!  I meant to show the quilters this painting that I saw at Carol Woods on Tuesday:

We have a number of bird lovers in the group:

Look!!  The birds are singing:

If the title isn't a dead giveaway... it's a relatively new watercolor painting being offered for sale:

FRIDAY morning was a whirlwind of last minute packing, as DS2's Band Trip left from the school promptly at 9 AM:

Thus begins THREE whole days without him.  (Guess I should get used to it since he's going off to college in the Fall!!!)  Sigh...

Oh!  Good news!!  O's T-Quilt is quilted and it looks GREAT!  (Thanks, Bo!!):

It's hard to see in this photo, but since O is a sporty guy, the quilting was done with a multi-sport ball panto.  There are golf balls, baseballs, and soccer balls.  O is SURE to love it!!

Want to hear even MORE good news???

I also made progress on his sister's T-Quilt, but you can read about that HERE.

On SATURDAY morning, I joined the LINK PARTY over on Angela's So Scrappy Blog.  We're getting closer to another Color Announcement!!!  I'd LOVE to have a look at what all of the RSC Quilters have been working on, but that will have to wait until I get back from Raleigh.  I'm on my way out the door to go get DS1.  He's coming home for his Spring Holiday (not to be confused with his Spring Break, which was two or three weeks ago!)

Until next time...
Get Scrappy!!!

Design Floor Friday {Progress on...} S's T-Quilt

Welcome to the next edition of Design Floor Friday!!  This is the day of the week that I share what I'm working on.  If there's a quilt in the design phase, you'll hear about it.  Lucky for you...

S's T-Quilt is STILL down on the design floor.  Next week, maybe not.  This week?  It's seeing some action.  Today, it went from testing out some scrappy HSTs around the ruched "S" block...

... To several blocks being completed since the sun came up this morning!!  (Those blocks include three of the four "yellow" squares and the dark block surrounded by a leaf print over on the LEFT.)

I decided what to do with the Hello Kitty block in the upper RIGHT corner...

... Combining it with her dance pants and a bit of fabric from a pair of animal print leggings:

GO, PACK!!!

... And then I ended up with only FOUR more blocks to sort out:

The wood floor and the carpeting don't REALLY belong!!!  :P

Just before cleaning up to go to dinner (@ I LOVE NY Pizza) I had an idea about how to include the infant sized football jersey:

The color blended well enough with the (remains of the) baby carrier-thingy.  SCORE!!!

Until next time...
Progress is GOOD!!!

Mail Call Monday - Projects Galore and More

Welcome to a LONG overdue post of Mail Call Monday!!  The back story is that I am a member of Ravelry.  It's an online community for fiber folks of all kinds.

Enter the adorable Chameleon Bag pictured above...

I don't usually BUY bags - I usually MAKE them!!  However, this one was SEW cute and it was for a good cause.  Anyone who knows me also knows that I am a sucker for a good cause!

Plus... DS1 used to love anything that resembled a lizard, so this will remind me of him.  Thank you to AlisaB on Ravelry, who was raising money for flintkids.org and...   "All income (not profits: 100% of income) from February and March of 2016 will be donated to the Flint Child Health & Development Fund via Flintkids.org".  (I have a music themed bag to remind me of DS2 - sadly, not made be AlisaB.)

Then came a Book Destash...
<3 p="">

I am SUCH a sucker for books!!!  Quilting books in particular.  There were a number of books listed for extremely reasonable prices.  How could I resist???

Well, I believe that you KNOW the answer to THAT one...  I couldn't resist!

Thank you to RitaDenise on Ravelry for sharing your books with me!!

Yes.  I am participating in the (Ravelry) 2016 Austerity Challenge.  That doesn't mean that I can't buy books.  It ONLY means that I'm not supposed to buy FABRIC!  Well, at least, I'm not supposed to buy fabric unless it's my once quarterly shopping day, which is a new allowance for 2016.  :P

Until next time...
Quilt til U wilt!!!

Scraphappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 12

Welcome to Week 12 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week got off to a GREAT start.  You never know how these things will turn out, but I'm feeling good, so far.  Wanna know why??

Well...

First, I'm still feeling the afterglow of yesterday's Quilt Bee meeting:

What a wonderful morning!! One of our members recovering from surgery is now more mobile and was offered a ride to the meeting.  (Thanks, Linda!!  We were SEW happy to be able to visit with Margaret, again.  We've missed them SEW much!!!)  We are still missing Carol, but she should be back with us next month.

On Sunday, I planned to work on one of my UFOs, as Britt and Helena are coming over.  I finished my CCLQ Donation Quilt block:

AND

Worked on first one...

Then the other...

... Of the blocks for my (smaller) Allietare.  I tried THREE different layouts (to determine how many MORE blocks I need to make.

Two more blocks:

Take out a couple:

 Take out a couple more:

I haven't decided which way to go, but I am SEW happy to have these blocks DONE!!!

On MONDAY, I was reminded that the blocks are SUPPOSED to be set on-point.  No time to try them that way, though!  It was Knit Group day for this week, followed by... lunch with a friend, a nail appointment, and grocery shopping.  There hasn't been a dull moment since I got home.  Maybe tomorrow...  I will show you the Donation Block that I made yesterday:

Mine is the House Block on the LEFT in the photo ABOVE.

TUESDAY was a stay-at-home day.  I did laundry, dishes, and cleaned the bathrooms.  I also stared at S's T-quilt (in an attempt to make some design decisions.)

On WEDNESDAY morning, I started piecing portions of S's T-quilt.  HERE is my first pieced block. Look closely!!  It's made of FIVE articles of clothing:

Went out for lunch with my friend, Needleb, then did some errands (did the banking and mailed off scraps to Katie Z. and Lori from the RSC Quilters) then drove over to meet knitting friends for Girls Night Out. What a FUN evening we had!!!  We even met a new friend.  :o))

THURSDAY was an early day.  Took the girls to school and carpooled to Quilt Group.  THIS was my Show and Tell for today:

I had hoped to get a bit more done on S's T-quilt... That didn't happen.  :o((

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

FRIDAY was supposed to be a work at home day.  How much did you accomplish, Joyful???  Check it out over on my Design Floor Friday post.  I also made ONE Rainbow Crumb Block from the scraps that I got from Jean a couple of weeks ago.  This one incorporates some of her beautiful hand dyed fabrics.  (Thanks for sharing, Jean!!):

Even though I didn't get a very good photo, this block was made in March's RSC Color of the Month (along with the Accent Color of the Month.)  Promise.  :o))

Well...  That brings us to...  ScrapHappy Saturday!!!

Oh, WAIT!!  You should check out my Quilty Orphan Adoption post from Friday, too!!  You could WIN a new-to-you project.

On SATURDAY, I had to leave early to take DS2 to a College Visit.  (He got his acceptance letter on Wednesday!!) This was a full-day event at UNCG.  However...

It's actually also...
National Quilting Day!!! Or is that Worldwide Quilting Day?!

Since I was up bright and early...  I joined Angela's LINK PARTY over on the So Scrappy Blog before leaving for Greensboro.  I'm looking forward to visiting the blogs of other RSC Quilters to see what they've been working on this week, but that will have to wait until I get home this evening.

Until next time...
Get Scrappy!!!

Design Floor Friday - S's T-Quilt

Welcome to another edition of Design Floor Friday!!  Today, we see S's T-Quilt beginning to take shape.  It's been on the floor since Tuesday of this week, but it was playing shy and didn't really have a lot to say to me.  I began with Big Brother's T-Quilt underneath just to get a general idea of the amount of fill-in work I would have to do (in order to somewhat replicate the size.):

While it remained quiet, the quilt's color balance was in a good place at the end of the day:

Wednesday came and I (finally) got a (small) start on S's T-Quilt, combining ELEVEN of the shirts into three quilt blocks...

One:

 Two:

Three:

Friday arrived and here is what I added...

Filler and fluff...   :o))

If you are wondering what that means (to me), I'll explain:

Working on one square at a time, I began to make decisions about further distributing the color around the quilt and adding bits and pieces to expand the blocks into a cohesive quilt top.  It's a SLOW process, but well worth at the end of the project.

Until next time...
Get YOUR quilt on!!!

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC16 - Week 11

Welcome to Week 11 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!!  This week got off to a slow start.  That was a pleasant change from my normal thousands of things to do each day of most weeks.  Time to breathe and just be.  Ahh...

SUNDAY took me up to the sewing room to deal with...

The bag of scraps that Candy brought to Quilt Group on Thursday:

Thank you, Candy!!  I always enjoy seeing what new scraps I'll have to play with.  This time it's a few bits of your special Indonesian fabric scraps.  See the blue with squares in the photo above.

I'm SEW excited!!!

Along with the scraps that Candy brought, I had a MAJOR scrap infusion from Jean the same day:

Would you believe it took me a half hour to sort them all?!?!

The small bag on the LEFT used to hold my batik scraps.  The top half of the large bag on the RIGHT came out of Jeans two scrap bags:

Thanks, Jean!!!  The bag even held a few surprises...

I got a couple of Pear Squares from the "Pear Phase" that Jean went through a while back:

As if that wasn't enough...

The small (gallon) bag that once held my batiks now holds a wealth of Jean's hand dyed leftovers:

SEW beautiful!!!

When I was done, I went off to get DS1 from college.  Spring Break began when classes ended on Friday.  I left around 1:30 and got back around 8:30.  We had many errands to run!  The good news is that our errands included a Mom and son "dinner date."  Always enjoyable!!

On MONDAY there were miscellaneous errands to run and laundry to do.  (Did I mention that DS1 was home for Spring Break???  Yes, Mt. Washmore is higher than ever!!)  I managed to finish the LAST square and assembled the final row for O's T-quilt:

I also prepped an RSC block and did part of the sewing:

TUESDAY was my weekly Knit Group meeting.  That evening, I found that Angela posted:

Column Along March Block - Butterfly

WEDNESDAY was reserved for QUILTING!!! I took the time to add the border blocks to O's T-quilt.  I also completed ONE Maverick Star Block that I began the other day:

On THURSDAY morning, I made my way to Quilt Group.  When I got home, I assembled the completed rows of O's T-quilt into a top:

Approximately 50" x 70"

This week FRIDAY was a FREE DAY for me.  No errands, no chores, no work!  I chose to begin the design process on S's T-quilt.  I did get far, but I got a start.

The first layout mimicked that of her brother's quilt:

Then I combined some things:

Next, I will have to figure out some fill-in options because she's only 5 and all the clothes are smaller.

SATURDAY morning, I woke up EARLY to help Mr. Joyful get ready for Robotics Competition.

Unfortunately, Angela had not posted the LINK PARTY over at the So Scrappy Blog.  :o((

I'll join in later, but I'm off to get ready for Quilt Bee.  It's so early that I will have to see what all of the other RSC Quilters have been up to this week... later!  Would you wait for me???

No?  I didn't THINK so!!  That's OK... enjoy yourself and I'll catch up tonight.  :o))

Until next time...
Get Scrappy!!!
