Fall 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The List

As posted in the Quilters Knitting Group:
Sign-ups for the Fall 2013 UFO Club are now CLOSED. Any interested quilters with 5 (or more) UFOs were required to sign up by Midnight (EDT) on October 7, 2013. All qualifying UFOs must be completed by Midnight (EDT) on December 31, 2013.
Group details:
12 quilters have signed up to participate.  There are 3 in the SEND group and 9 in the NO SEND group.  At some point, we may stop offering the SEND group as an option.  For now... the legacy continues.
With life being so hectic at our house (and since I haven't finished a UFO in more than a year!) I have given myself "permission" to leave my list as it has been posted in prior sessions.  I struggled with the desire to revamp the list, but my friend ThePoch encouraged me to just leave well enough alone.  Thanks for being the "voice of reason!"
So...
My list is as follows:
3 commission quilts
3 baby quilts
3 "C" quilts
3 other quilts
For a total of 12 quilts that may or may not get finished -AGAIN!- during this session. Sorry, but I didn’t have the energy to change it up (for those of you who may be getting REALLY tired of seeing the exact same list!)

Wish me luck!

I was so distracted by work and other activities (like trips back and forth to the hospital!) that I didn't finish ONE of my UFOs during this session.  (AGAIN!!!)  I'm disappointed with my lack of productivity, but feel helpless to change my workload.
Wish me better luck for the next session...PLEASE!!!

Summer 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The List

The Summer session began on July 1st.  I'm a little behind in posting.  Sorry!  I figure that you are probably getting tired of seeing the same old list, anyway!  Unfortunately, I just haven't been able to get motivated to sew.

WAIT!!!  What does this mean???

It means that I've had the SAME list for an entire year!

Sad, but true.  I have only finished one UFO in the last 12 months.

My list for the Summer 2012 session morphed into my list for the Fall session, which morphed into my list for the Winter session, was transformed into my Spring 2013 list, and now the cycle continues.  It's rather depressing, but I will continue to try to chip away at the list.

Follow the link to view the list:

(Ignore the Mill Quilt since I completed that one last year.)

Those 3 commission quilts STILL need to be completed and the 3 baby quilts are going to need to be "Big Kid" quilts by the time I actually finish them. (And, I just found out that I'll need to add ANOTHER baby quilt to the list, as my niece is going to have her 2nd baby!)

Wish me luck and...
Happy Finishing!

MTS Meets Carol Woods

The Mountains to Sea Quilt Series has been on display for the last two weeks at Carol Woods Retirement Facility in Chapel Hill. This afternoon, Carol Woods residents had the pleasure of listening to resident Jonathon Howes' stories about the sites along the trail that are depicted on  our Mountain to Sea quilts. He was Secretary to the N C Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources under Governor Hunt's administration. The display has been met with enthusiasm, many residents visited it, often repeatedly.

Spring 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The Results

The Spring 2013 UFO Club is now CLOSED. Any interested quilters with 5 (or more) UFOs were required to sign up by Midnight (EDT) on April 7, 2013. All qualifying UFOs were completed by Midnight (EDT) on June 30, 2013.
We had a relatively small group of quilters for the Spring 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club.  Our membership was down this session and we had very few finished projects.  I believe that it was the smallest return for the Club since the formation of the group.  The good news is that a number of other members made progress on their projects (and that is the important part!)
Group stats can be seen below:

2013 Dye Frenzy

My quilt bee recently had their annual Dye Frenzy.  Unfortunately, I don't have any
pictures to share because I wasn't able to attend.  :o(

I do have news of the event and hope to add pictures after our next meeting.  This time
the quilters used super hot water and got more vibrant results. One quilter also brought
indigo dye which was fun and unusual. I had no clue that indigo comes out of the dye bath
green and then reacts with the air to turn blue.

The meeting began at 10 am and they finally paused to eat around 2pm…  They were
having TOO much FUN!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing the final results of everyone's dyeing at the next meeting.
I just wish that I hadn't had to miss it!

Incredible News!

You may or may not recall that the Mountain to Sea Trail quilt series that I participated in (Glencoe Mill Quilt) was juried into the 2013 North Carolina Quilt Symposium show.  Well, it was.  The show is going on in Fayetteville, NC this weekend.

I was unable to attend Symposium, but some of my friends went down to the show today.  I spoke with one of them this evening.  The news was quite surprising!

Are you ready to hear the results???

You'd better sit down.

MTS was awarded 1st Place in the Group Quilt category!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am "SEW" excited!

100 Days!!!

We are pleased to announce that DS2 has reached his 100th day.

That's 100 Days Post-Transplant, thank you very much!!!  It's quite the milestone in the Bone Marrow Transplant world and we are so grateful that he has attained such a distinction.

Way to go!!!

Right now he is busy counting the days until the removal of his central line. That procedure is scheduled for this coming week.  Let me tell you, he can hardly wait!

Thank you to those of you out in Blog Land who provided good thoughts and constant prayers during this ordeal.  Keep it up because it seems to be working!

Until next time...
Happy Quilting!

Spring 2013 (Ravelry) UFO Club - The List

I haven't touched my sewing machine in the past three months and  I'm not sure if I'll get anything done during

this session either, but here's my list - just in case.

My list for the Summer session morphed into my list for the Fall session, which morphed into my list for the Winter session, and has now transformed into my Spring 2013 list.  I didn't finish ANYTHING so there is plenty more to be done!

Follow the link to view the list:

http://thejoyfulquilter.blogspot.com/2012/07/summer-2012-ravelry-ufo-club-list.html

(Ignore the Mill Quilt since I completed that one last year.)

I have 3 commission quilts that need to be done and 3 baby quilts that should have been done over Christmas break, but I waited too late to begin and then life got in the way (and stayed firmly planted there!)

Wish me luck and...
Happy Finishing!

Winter 2013 - (Ravelry) UFO Club - The Results

The Winter 2013 session of the UFO club is now CLOSED.  Progress was slow this session, but there’s always next time!  I'm not sure of any reasons, but my own.  We had a good group of quilters, but life seemed to get in the way for several of us.
My personal excuse for not adding to the group totals?
DS2 was in the hospital for a good bit of January, the entire month of February, and the first week of March!!!  That really put a crimp in my quilting time, as much of my time was spent at Duke University Medical Center in the Pediatric Bone Marrow unit.  When I wasn't at the hospital I was working at one of my TWO jobs or spending time with DS1 at home.
This session's group stats are listed below.

www.matthewsgift.com

I promised more information in my last quick post.  That was more than a month ago.  Time flies...whether you are having fun or not!

The website in the title of this post (link to the following) http://bonemarrow.org/financial-assistance/one-to-one-funds/participants/matthew-murphy/ will explain more about the beneficiary of such overwhelming generosity.

That local high school band performance (and related fund-raising efforts) provided assistance to one of their own, in his family's time of need.

That family is SO grateful.

How do I know???

That family (and that boy) is MINE!!!

Thank you, again, to Cedar Ridge High School and the Red Wolf community for opening their hearts (and their wallets) in support of Matthew.  That support has taken a bite out his ever-increasing medical bills.

Many thanks to all who contributed!

MTS Quilt meets the Trail

The Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, will be hosting a reception in honor of the Durham Orange Quilt Guild's Art Bee on Thursday, January 17th, at the Nature Art Gallery in the Museum of Natural Sciences, in Raleigh.

They have invited their local members to see our "amazing work", and hope to have quite a turnout.  For those unfamiliar with the Museum, there is a parking lot on the right in the block immediately after you pass the museum on Jones Street. It 's a pay lot.

Go through the main entrance of the Museum, and then into the Museum store, over to the left.   There are stairs inside that take you to the Nature Art Gallery on the Mezzanine level.

The Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail thanked us for putting our creativity and skills to work in such a unique way.  They stated that they are honored that the Art Bee chose to depict scenes from the trail, and cannot wait for their members to see it in person.  I am pleased to be listed among these talented quilters.

The Mountain-to-Sea Trail quilt series exhibit can be seen from now through January 28, 2013 at Nature Art Gallery in the Museum of Natural Sciences, in Raleigh at 11 Jones Street.  The gallery hours are:

Who can resist a Raffle Quilt???

Living Water Quilt Raffle | Pam Stahl's Fundraiser on CrowdRise
This is a raffle for the "Living Water Quilt" shown in the pictures.  (named by one of my blog readers!) The quilt measures 102" x 102".  I took the first picture leaning off the top of the staircase.  King size with wool blend batting.  ...

I'm a sucker for a Raffle Quilt and my Ravelry friend made this quilt to raise money for a worthy cause.  Here's a link to Pam's blog post:
